  • Here is the new MPC 1971 Dodge Demon kit. Getting the decals on and having a hood decal issue. It's not the kits decals, but aftermarket ones I bought 14-15 years ago. Decided to try and paint it instead.

I just finished my second Demon 340 kit, and experienced the same problems you found. But, nobody but me will ever see it, so I don't worry about it.

I've learned through my years of experience with models that require large hood stripes , that masking and painting is best for me ...
    Nice looking Dodge!

Wow!! Great tip with the scotch tape! Decals are my least favorite part of a build. Especially after you get them applied perfect, then the clear attacks them!! And the paint looks great! It's way better than what I could do.

Thanks. I have had some aerosol clear coats attack decals but have not had that with the real automotive clear.

All in all it came out nice. I'm sure there were a few choice words said when you laid down that tape. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. I was getting frustrated the night after I removed all the old decal. That night I just had to put it down and work on something else. The following night was just the same so I put if off till the weekend. That’s when I got it and said that will do!

I know your videos are more focused on your results versus the process, but I really would have liked to see you "show your work" in terms of masking and painting the hood graphics. The fact you masked and painted them is amazing!

Thanks. Masking videos are difficult to make and watch. I have made a few but was not happy with the results so I have not posted them.

A hot water soak also helps loosen up decals

It helps but these aftermarket ones needed to stretch and the setting solution was breaking them down.

You tried the best you could with the hood stripes. In the end it’s what you are happy with. I’m still a fan of your work.

Cricut makes a machine called the joy. This thing is perfect for cutting out vinyl masking for model work. Have a look at it.
I have this kit it's good to know all about the decal problems. Thanks!

The worst thing about that kit are those decals...i watched another You Tuber build it and the hood was horrendous.
The kit looks so good with them too but i think i will go without.

A friend of mine used to soak kits in hot water to remove decals. I have also heard (but never tried) that soaking in vinegar will loosen the glue and remove decals. I have no idea how that will affect the paint

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  หลายเดือนก่อน

I have used hot water to help set the decals but not remove them. Plus if the water is too hot it can warp the plastic.
