    When I was first getting into photography years ago I found this man's TH-cam channel and I bought what I could on the used market on his recommendations and I can honestly say I was extremely happy with every single purchase I made and I value this man's opinion extremely high in the world of photography I love my Nikon I love my vintage lenses that cost next to nothing still using a DSLR in 2024 and could😅n't be happier

    Story time...I am a Truck Driver...been shooting for over 20+ years with Nikon bodies...picked up the D500 2 years and ago and fell head over heels in love! That camera is just AWESOME! Well built with all the features a pure shooter could ever want and then some...but it’s not a FX body and it’s time to step up to the big leagues and plus I need something a bit more robust due to my Sasquatch sized hands! So, I pick up a D4S and BOOM! Lust meets Love! My photos take on a new soulful look and feel...plus it’s built like a damn tank! I love them both and they are the reasons as to why I will KEEP shooting with DSLR bodies (as long as Nikon keeps making them like those 2) My D4S took flight within my tractor last week after I had to do some hard breaking...the only damage was a tear in the rubber eye cup and nothing else...LIKE A TANK! Give me D850 in a D5 body and I wouldn’t need another camera body EVER.

    D3 is an absolute tank, just bought a D3s to replace it as a camera retailer here in the UK decided to have a pre-Christmas sale and dropped 20% off their "clearance" items, so got a 47k shots D3s for £520 ($660). An absolute steal!
    My D3 has been the acomplus for my D800 for the last 7 months and it's been great but isn't the best example, she's a bit battered mind you, but has plenty of life left with a measly 190k on the clock. Just find the low-light on the D3 lacking a bit so thought why not?
    Must argue the D800 as the best bang for the buck, mine was £430 with 90k and found another recently for £420 with 78k. A steal, considering the resolution, pro layout, pretty snappy AF and respectable low-light capabilities.

  • @Funktrainer
    @Funktrainer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As far as other manufacturers concerned I add the Kodak DCS6xx/7xx series (the one and only 35mm DSLR camera system out there based on the Nikon F5), the Hasselblad H3D-II series and the Leica M8 original (fastest shutter on any rangefinder camera) to the bunch of legendary camera bodies.
    All of these were gamechangers and still are strong pieces of equipment.

    I spent hours shooting with fellow photographers with a D4vand a D500 at a low light soccer game.
    We were all surprised to see how much better the high iso performance was compared to the D500. The D4 files at iso 10k were far better than D500 at 5k
    In fact we noticed considerable noise at 3k in the D500.

    Hi I enjoy a lot your videos and the vast knowledge that you share on them. As a Nikon D500 user for several years With more then enough FX glass for it I was wondering in your expert opinion which camera would you recommend between D500,D850 and Z7 for a overall good enough camera. I have no complains about my D500 but I was thinking about upgrade to a full sensor since everybody claims that a full sensor as the one in D850 and Z7 are better and with more megapixels. Can you please recommend me one of the three since I like Nikon and you are a Nikon expert. Thanks so much

  • @TomMasonPhoto

    I agree with your thought on the Legendary D3/D4 however regarding the D500 and D850, as a pro wildlife photographer the D850 is the superior camera (If you have the glass for it) the slower FPS is a problem for some, but the AF is so good that as long as you know how to pick the right moment for a shot the 7FPS or 9 with the grip and D5 batteries will easily cope. The higher MP is gorgeous and the RAW files are superior meaning if ultimate quality is what you're after then the D850 wins and having used it for solid months in the field, working in the rainforest, UK and overseas on multiple assignments its the first camera I'll always add to the bag. For most people however the D500 is bloody awesome (price/performance) and the savings on the camera over the D850 allows for the purchase of some excellent lenses to pair with it, and of course as we all know lenses are key, that any camera with poor optics is never going to perform to the standards we are after. Cheers, Tom

Once I learned how to download custom picture controls, I was able to tune the perfect in-camera color (Fuji Film Velvia) without even having to make any color/shadow adjustment in any software later. • @pawelhener5338
      @pawelhener5338 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Owning a d610 as well as a d850 I think I am qualified to give my 2 cents:
      The D610 produces very good pictures, has an ok AF system and does most of the stuff well. The d850 has much faster autofocus which really becomes apparent with lenses such as the Tamron 70-200g2. The image quality is another level above the d610 / you can crop away 90% of he picture and will still see decent results. However the best part about the d850 is that the pictures come out of the camera so well that there’s hardly any post processing needed (at least from the pictures I took so far) so if you are earning money with the camera I would definitely consider the expense / same for nature / wildlife and sport photography. If you do portraits / street / travel mostly then maybe not
      Hope it helps

    Hey, Ken,
    I've been watching your channel for years, and I know, you know almost everything about Nikon cameras. So, here is my situation!: I want to buy a new DSLR, and I have cca 1300$ for the body. I dont have professional glasses for Nikon, because I've been working with Canon in recent years. I usually shoot hockey and demonstrations (some photojournalistic jobs, you can see this in my account), and I want to have a professional Nikon body. But I dont know which is better for me: the D3S (with 28-70&80-200) or the D500 (with 17-55&80-200). Should I go to FF, or can I stay in DX for professional jobs? Thanks for your answer!

    Main difference between the D3 and D3s as well as the D4 and D4s is processing speed and video.
    The D3 didn't have video, that was later added to the D3s.
    The D4 is a great camera, but needed a speed boost to the auto-focus, which was accomplished by going to the Expeed 4 processor in the D4s. Also the D4s added 60 fps to the 1080p video over the D4 only having 30fps. If you're not a video shooter, any of the Nikon older professional cameras are work horses and well worth the money.

      I was saving up for the D500 but lost my job after 18 years there. Sucks.
      I do have the D7100 I bought used (7,200 shutter clicks) on craigslist (really nice guy sold it to me cheap) just before losing my job and I love it especially after Angry P's videos touting the D7100 as a good Dx camera.
      I'm teaching myself photography via TH-cam since its such a great hobby now that I'm unemployed. TH-cam also has quite a few short, simple, yet effective videos by people who take the time to properly explain digital photography in plain english.
      Angry Photographer has given good advice on what lenses to purchase and i have taken his advice on several of them; 60mm f2.8D, 70-300mm G VR, 85mm f1.8D, 35mm f1.8G DX. I would like to get the Tokina 100mm f2.8.
      My photography has improved and am working more thoughtfully on developing that eye on how to frame out a picture thru the viewfinder and lens and learn how to properly understand and execute the exposure triangle. Now, learning about mastering light is a tricky mother....
      Bought my first film camera, a Nikon N2020 in 1987, then went on to buy a used Nikon 8008S in 1993. As time went on, I realized I really sucked at photography and gave up. I still have those cameras... in mint condition, yikes!
      In 2018, i picked up the hobby anew and slowly but steadily working on taking better pictures.
      Photography was always something that interested me and now more than ever, I am patiently trying to live by this saying- " Nothing is gained without practice".

    I don't quite get all the hate the D3x gets. Is it just because it was expensive when it came out? Seems like you can't find hardly anything about it online, just people bitching about how expensive it was. I just picked one up for $630 bucks and I love the images it's giving me so far. Wish I understood all the negative flack it gets better though. Might be a good video for you to do. There's nothing for it by any other good TH-camrs and lots available cheap on the used market.

      @@tothemoon2151 But you are correct. D850 would be fantastic and right up my alley. The reason I have owned so many is trying to find the "perfect" camera in the 1500-2000 dollar price range. For me, there were too many issues with the other cameras, lack of video, or poor crop-ability since I cannot afford the "premier glass" So I finally went the Fuji route since I need great image quality, great autofocus for action, great video, focus peaking because I love using manual lenses, compact and easy for even my wife to use for the occasional videos she makes for marketing. D500 hit almost all of those marks minus the video features and ease of use for my wife. XT3 is probably the best all around camera I can even think of, glad I got it.
