    As a huge rockets fan, Joel, you are way too high on Christian wood. If you watched rockets games this year, you can tell how much of a problem he was defensively on the court. So many centers would have career nights against him. You’re saying he didn’t put in effort because he was on the rockets, but let’s not act like Wood wasn’t a huge part of why the rockets were bad defensively. Also his stats make him look a lot better than he is. It is clear by his body language and where he placed himself on the court that he would much rather play on the perimeter and take step backs rather than be a pick and roll big. I do think playing with Luka will make him better, but let’s not act like wood is a game changer that will take the Mavs over the top. Wood is no where near the skill level of siakam in any aspect of basketball other than maybe shooting. Oh and also with wood out of the lineup in Houston, KPJ and Jalen green were averaging 20+ a game. Just saying

    • @pickaside
      @pickaside  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s because both KPJ and Jalen Green performed great in the backend of the season during meaningless games. Those big time games by Green and KPJ happened in late March and early April.

      @@pickaside Meaningless? The rockets played teams like the Nets, Twolves, and Hawks in their last 10 games who were all fighting for positioning in the standings. Yeah it may have been meaningless for the rockets but those teams needed wins. You can’t just say meaningless to discredit the improvement of KPJ and Jalen. I could say that ANTs improvement towards the end of last season was meaningless because the Wolves were bad but Nobody did because we knew the talent was there

    Is Christian wood a great defender? No. Is Christian wood better then Powell defensively? Yes. The Mavs were able to have a top 10 defense with Powell... Who literally doesn't do a damn thing, but catch lobs when Luka draws 3 defenders. This is a big move. The Mavs have improved on both ends and got a guy who can rebound which was one of Dallas' most glaring weaknesses. They were getting out rebounded by like 15+ every game.

    People seem to forget mavs lead the clippers series 2-0. Just saying mavs had a chance. Especially with mavs going from a bottom 25 defense to #8 this season. Tie that in with getting a center that can space the floor, SCORE AND REBOUND. Yeah mavs can absolutely beat the clippers. Insert "clippers knocked them put twice already", and look how that turned out with the suns. My mavs lost to them everytime for 3 years. Then went on to 40 peice em in game 7 in Phoenix. Let the clippers run it back and give me mavs in 6-7.

    Woulda been nice to see the Spurs get Johnny Davis or Ben Mathurin at 9th, BUT Jeremy Sochan brings energy & versatility on both ends with the kind of upside that represents a huge opportunity for the Spurs famed player developmental staff. Malakai Branham being mock drafted at 11th overall shows how much of a STEAL he was at 20th. Lastly, Blake Wesley [PG/SG] out of Notre Dame at 25th, the Spurs get a super-talented 19yr old scorer, shot creator, & ball handler who is still just a little bit "raw" in the best sense of the word.

    People are way to critical of Ja. Firstly, he’s young which doesn’t bail him out, but should at least allow for understanding that he just has to mature. Secondly, if someone comes at you, a trophy shouldn’t decide if you can respond back. I also get that bro doesn’t text as proper as others, but as someone from the M, I want to say a lot of people talk like that so if anything I feel it’s just culture being displayed through the youth. And lastly, I don’t understand the comparisons to previous greats and especially the comparison to Lil Durk. Durk has been an artist for a decade, so if he’s just now becoming mature, again, that isn’t fair to ask of 22 y/o Ja Morant. And Kobe was no “I’ll let my play do all the talking” kind of guy in the beginning either. According to a documentary I saw, he wasn’t mature in the slightest (talking about in reference to his beef with Ray Allen on the Secret Base Channel). I don’t agree with how Ja acts but for the public perception to fall because it is honestly stupid and inconsistent. Don’t want this to be viewed as though, love the pod. Appreciate y’all’s time.

    Christian Wood is at least 15 ppg stats-wise better that Powell in the regular season. That includes the defense part. How many more wins is that for the mavericks? I would say a lot!

    • @Ovchkar
      @Ovchkar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dwight Powell had 9 games over 15 points (regular season 2021/22). I believe Christian Wood to have at least 15 ppg and as high as 25 ppg.
      Before KP trade (11.2.2022)
      23 losses = 11,47 average points game loss
      Of those games KP wasn’t playin in 8 games /// in those games not played by KP Powell had 6,5 ppg. So you win stats-wise at least 8 more. In those losses where KP was playing he had 19 ppg on more than 30 mpg.
      Those games were lost for an average of 9,3 points.
      KP averages 2021/22 was 20 ppg 8 rb on 51% eFG
      After KP trade:
      7 losses = 15,86 average points game loss
      Of those losses 2 games had less than 5 or less points difference. Of those losses 1 game had less than 15 points difference.
      In those games Powel had 10,4 ppg. So you win stats-wise at least 3 more.
      Everything being the same, even if Christian Wood (15ppg) is 5 ppg worse than KP on a much better eFG%, and the first half season being a worse team overall you still win at least 11 more games.
      Mavericks had 45W 30L ratio this year. That would put them on a 56 W 19L ratio. Well if that doesn’t bode well for the playoffs I don’t know what does.

I do have to give him credit for one thing, though - if a team is taking another to 7 games, anything can happen. It might not be the likely outcome, but we all saw what happened to Phoenix this year.

    how is ben simmons an all-nba default when he has made the team once and pascal has made the 2nd and 3rd team on separate occasions but for some reason iit is fair to compare wood to pascal. pascal is better than simmons and has been for a while now.

    One of the best episodes I've watch, lots of laughs too. I hope Pierre comes to this pod like one a month if he's cool with that. And I hope JC is on the pod consistently if he's cool with it too.

    🤣 Watch your mouth bout my Rockets Joel! Nobody else offered a 1st for Wood so that's the reason he went to Dallas. Maybe we could have shopped him last year before the deadline but none the less it clears room for #3 to get plenty of PT plus J Green is officially THE GUY with Wood in Dallas without question. #InStoneWeTrust

    I think Paulo is the worst of the 3 in terms of fit with OKC. He's another ball dominant player and brings no interior defence. If you truly believe Chet is the best player, Jabari has to be the 2nd best option, someone who can spread the floor for Giddy and SGA (he's the best catch and shoot out of all 3) and provide some versatile defence. Jalen Duren at 12 helps defensively but I just think PB works in the wrong areas of the floor for OKC.
    Great pod guys, keep up the great work🔥🔥
