Amazing talk that validated some things I’ve been thinking myself about binaries, exploring gender with fun, and spoken with eloquence. She’s my non-binary hero.

Thank you. One reason we have seen sexuality and gender as something we are born with, is as a defence against fundamentalist ideas. If it isn't then we lose that defence. It may be true for some but not for others as Kate says.

There’s someone in this thread who calls Bornstein a monster; that just baffles me. What must that person see when they view Bornstein calmly and good-naturedly speaking of easing others’ suffering? It’s scary to imagine the disconnect between reality and perception in that person’s disordered mind. Scarier to still to realise that they are no doubt not alone.

I first saw Kate in her Hidden Agender show in NY circa 1990. It was a great performance. The show concluded by presenting her real world dilemma of trying to reconcile the desire of her current lover wanting to transition into becoming a man.
I prefer the term pandrogenous over polynary when referring to gender. Genesis P-Orridge chose to pioneer this concept through radical surgeries. In any case, I’m glad Kate addressed questions regarding biological sex during the Q&A. While one could claim, as Kate does, that there are 15 different possibilities in human chromosomal combinations that determine biological sex, they all pivot around the basic XX or XY combination. The variants are extremely rare and most do not survive outside of the womb. By contrast, there are arguably 8 billion genders, especially if, as Kate proffers, “gender is anything you want it to be”. So, have fun with it, while you still can and if possible, try to cause less suffering. That’s good advice.
