I started using them to have background noise to sleep on, since I didn't know about the game. Then I started actually getting interested in what it was about and now play the game from time to time lol.
I really like these videos, and I never interacted with any Yugioh-related media in my entire life before TH-cam recommended me these videos. I still know nothing about Yugioh except for what I’m able to extrapolate from these videos, which isn’t a lot.
I got into the game right after the dragon rulers got banned and never really knew why they were so powerful and honestly after hearing their explanations on why they're banned I'm kinda glad they decided to not make one for light or dark attributes
The Dragon Rulers have the distinct trait that they actually fit in so many decks and are so easy to summon they add so much consistency. If there were Light and Dark Dragon Rulers you would see them in just about every deck assuming they are at least limited and have the same requirements as the existing Rulers. On top of that the lower level versions of them just assist in the whole premise allowing you to Summon the high level Rulers straight from the deck. If they were to be taken off the balance to the consistency would be to put the low level monsters of the archetype on the Forbidden list if you asked me how I expect them to be removed. You can play Tempest at 1 and its corresponding monster that summons it from the deck is at 3.
Yea if they ever made Light and Dark Dragon Ruler monsters they would never get unbanned will how many amazing and borderline op cards there are of those types.
They got banned or crippled fast enough that they couldnt get to tier 0. If the babyrulers would have survived the first circle the Rulers would have been tier 0 after Spellbook of Judgement was gone.

I've been waiting for an explanation for why Dragon Rulers were so amazing and now that I know, it's kind of terrifying. Their artwork is dope, though. Dragon Rulers sort of unintentionally becoming godlike kind of reminds of how the simple act of putting Drizzle and Drought on Politoed and Ninetales in Gen 5 helped warp that meta into the "Weather Wars". Obvious difference being the Dragon Rulers were great on their own in addition to making other cards better. Politoed and Ninetales could make teams or other Pokemon busted while they themselves were only slightly above average.
It was not fun this format you would main deck vanity emptyness at 3 in your main deck and would still use this was definitely that number 1 play the top two decks or get wrecked nothing could compete with rulers if any spellbooks rulers has to be the.number one tier 0 deck

I like these series, they preserve the history of the game, and can be used as reference for why a new card is made that way (joke cards, new busted cards, retrains of banned cards, etc.) Top 10 vanilla monsters in the game
I remember when I first tried getting back in to Yugioh since the Battle City days. I vividly remember facing this deck online, which led to me immediately putting down the game as a whole again for at least another 3-4 years.
There's speed duel battle city box at the end of the month. I'm gonna go in. Good for 8 to start, each have a starter deck (you can even combine the 2-3 characters for a deck) from speed duel and you got an affordable tournament literally out the box with 4 playmats. Booster packs are 4 cards so I dunno if people like that much.
I kinda love how Dragon Rulers are this looming threat that triggers a panicked feeling in each player who was around during that time, when they are mentioned
I started back in YuGiOh when they were prevalent, even before babies were e-banned back then, and oh boy they were everywhere and were impossible to avoid, and *always* topped
The fact that there is exactly 9 trap cards banned, makes me think of which monster/spell you are gonna add in that when you eventually do it. Unless you arent gonna have a number 10 spot for it in general
@@sephikong8323 Makyura got an errata where if it's sent from the Monster Zone to the GY, you can activate 1 Trap Card from the hand that turn. Makyura also has a hard once per turn for this effect as well.
Ill never forget the summer of the dragon rulers. It was the first time I had ever experienced an emergency ban list and remember the thing that made this deck impossible was the sheer amount of cards that had 0 value from older sets being made almost broken by these cards

Thank you so much Duellogs. I absolutely love this series. I don't understand why a decent amount of cards are banned because I'm an oldschool player who doesn't really keep up with the meta news wise, but your videos have given me some insight into the current meta, and these have been extremely fascinating. Me and my friends who I got into Yugioh, all choose to stay oldschool and not run Links or Xyzs, because of how broken the game state is at that point. It's a lot more fun. Two weeks ago I had an hour long duel with my friend where I was down to 4 cards in my deck and he had like 10, it was a consistent battle of one-upping each other with cards and effects and destroying each other's cards constantly, not one person taking 10 minutes to make an unbeatable board and then winning. loads of fun.
Well if you gave judgement to any archetype it would be tier 0, so kudos to rulers for being able to stop them. I'm 100% confident that you could have a ojama version of judgment and turn ojamas T0.
Keep in mind, this spell card was probably the most broken card ever made (as a matter of fact, it's the number one card in this guy's video on the best cards in the game), and really, the Spellbook archetype was already pretty powerful, so Spellbook of Judgment just made them incredibly good.
@@bolmo12 That isn't saying much since the Ojama's, despite being the bane of everyone's existence, is actually pretty strong when you look at what they have access to. Even giving them a draw 2 would probably push them into solid Rogue tier, let alone a Spellbook of Judgement.
Blaster is my second favorite Dragon ruler next to Tempest. If they were to ever unban any of the other dragon rulers I'd say it would be him since alot of cards nowadays have protection from destruction effects, have trigger effects that activate when they're destroyed or have protection from being targeted in general.
I remember one game where a lightsworn player summoned snow on me every turn and constantly flipping my monster face down and going into rank 4 xyz monster. I told him snow should be banned after it was limited in the OCG at the time and he laughed at me a couple of months later guess who laughing now and still is

@@majordukem Competative minded players tend to think anything that doesn't hard counter their deck is fine for the game, gladly stomping any and every deck they come across just for the "practice cause this is a new build". Asking them what should or shouldn't be banned is always a bad idea cause they'll only ever pick cards that specifically counter their deck. In Force of Will that was fairly common even before the game jumped the shark, where comp players would mill around in casual or new player lobbies and go full force. It legit took me a full year to learn how to build a deck because they only ever suggested busted cards with no context on the deck surrounding it. And at that point I was playing an inconsistent but fun meme deck that somehow occasionally stomped the meta decks, much to their utter shock. YuGiOh is almost all comp minded people, so asking anyone if a card should be banned will usually be answered with "Nah it's fine just play X or Y", ignoring the context of the deck the other person is trying to play.
I once lost to a Lightsworn player because of snow. I cleared the field, got 4 monsters (pre link area) on the field and wanted to attack for game. He was able to revive snow 2 times during my turn, flipped my monsters with disruption face down and used it to swallow the 2 other attacks. Then he banished giant rex with Snow and somehow won. F”k that card
I played YuGiOh in tournaments exactly in 2013 and played Dragon Ruler. Every tournament I went to was literally 80% players playing Dragon Ruler. You had Super Rejuvenation at three, a card that allows you to draw for every dragon tribute you made that turn. It was INSANE. The only deck that was able to compete with Dragon Ruler (and actually won a few tournaments) was Spellbooks.
Holy shoot. I stop playing the game before rulers and I never understood why they are banned until this video. A few more rulers card and they could had been tier 0

Been trying to learn about which Archtype to play and have been struggling to understand why Dragon Rulers is so good and how it really works, this is very helpful. Btw I'm also looking at Burning Abyss, anyone got videos or guides to share that explain that archtype? I want to learn it too.
I miss Harp Horror. Picked Orcust up when they were released and werent that good. Then Orcust Knightmare, Dingirsu and Crescendo were released and made it meta. Our store has an annual event where the meta isnt allowed so Orcust was suddenly not playable.
I've never dueled before but these videos are so chill and interesting that it makes me wanna try at some point. The mechanics seem really cool, I love the variety of summoning methods and archetypes.
I always check the ban list every now and then but honestly I didn't know Eclipse Wyvern was banned. I got 1 copy of that card (from Light&Dark structure deck). Really cool looking card, too bad it's banned for being too good.
Same exact story with me. No idea and I got the structure deck. I even play tested wyvern and it never felt strong for me. Still the structure deck was super cool.
The format after the Rulers were put to 1 which was beginning of 2014 I think, was one of the best formats I think we've ever had. There were so many decks being played and while the Rulers were still there they weren't oppressive like they were before, just a good deck along with the others. Still kinda want Tidal back for my Mermails, but it's probably better for it to still be banned.
yknow something they could always do for the dragon rulers is what a lot of other card games do, that's "choice restriction" where in this case, all dragon rulers could be limited, but you can only include one in your deck. Vanguard and WiXoss do this and it's been very helpful in balancing the metagame.
so basically, each card, in likely addition to some other conditions(say, make every effect that effects your own cards specify [attribute] dragons, and some drawbacks to using them), having them all say "this card cannot be in your deck alongside any other "dragon rulers" cards"?
@@anonymousoff-brand7538 I would make it an official announcement on the website similar to the limited/restricted list that you cannot include more than 1 of any of the listed cards in your deck: And then it would list the four dragon rulers. They could also do this with A bunch of 2-card FTKs like “you can’t include mass driver and substitoad” on the same deck as an example to free up space. Or Samsara lotus because lool loops
I always wondered why Evilswarms were that powerfull around Dragon Rulers and Spellbook times. But then basically got forgotten. It was because Evilswarm, while being worse then either, countered both Dragon Rulers and Spellbooks.
I remember in 2013 I went to a regionals where the big decks were dragon rulers, bujin, and evil swarm. I think spell books was as well but almost nobody could afford the deck where I was. I ended up topping with a rank 4 focused harpie deck (pet dragon seemed too inconsistent to me) because the rank 4 pet dragon xyz was just shitting on everybody and nobody planned to harpies with side deck or anything. That was so fun haha

the spellbook archetype wasn't released in the same set as dragon rulers, they had been around for a while at that point, it was just that spellbook of judgment made them overpowered currently don't recall if other spellbooks or prophecy monsters were released along with judgment but of course it was the only one that really mattered then anyways
Dragon Rulers were absolutely insane! Could never loose advantage is just to good. Even effect negation does only so much. And even though Dragon Rulers have limited protection, it doesnt matter. Still broken. And the only thing keeping the Dragon Rulers at full power from becoming the most op deck in the game's history, was possably the most powerfull card in all of yugioh. Spellbook of Judgmemt.
Being someone who stopped playing Yugioh when synchros were new I never understood what was the big problem with dragon rulers until now and I think it’s going to be a while before we see a second of them gets unbanned
Machina Gadgets were underrated in this format, redox, ultimate offering, Lavalval chain, shockmaster, 101, gadgets could EASILY stand up and beat Rulers back then but no-one really played them. My favorite deck :)
I think that if Blaster return, Tidal, and Redox might as well be erased from the game entirely because their effects are not only the strongest of the bunch, but if we had three limited dragon rulers, we would not need the fourth to make this deck work again, and as long as dragon link exists, blaster also needs to stay banned, Tempest is already good there, imagine with a Blaster. It kind of hurts to say that Blaster cannot come back because he has probably my favorite design with Tidal and I would love to use him in salads, but I need to see the bigger picture, and the bigger picture is not pretty.
As a person who only played back in the anime days where Gemini Elf and Summoned Skull were top tier cards in my school, this type of video is absolutely amazing to watch. So much crazy shit happened with this game.
Makes me wonder what the hell was Konami thinking when they decided to print those things. If you decide to make basically one-card engines, that can work with 4 out of 6 archetypes, with the 4th most popular type in the game, and with each other, I have n idea how can you not think twice about it.
In regards to dragon rulers, Konami didn’t think people would make a deck around them. They did think about the fact that the dragon rulers actually worked with each other. They were all suppose to be used to support attribute based decks.
I remember when I was younger and the Dragon Ruler tins came out, I didn't even know they were strong but I just wanted the different tins because they looked cool so now I have 2 or 3 different dragon rulers hanging out with all my other Yugioh cards
Ahh.. those days where you only had original Polymerization, fusion monsters, ritual monsters and main deck monsters/spells/traps.. i know I’m such a boomer... nowdays i have to take classes on how to play haha.. but i love your videos and it’s always fun to learn something new
fairy tail snow was so cool in Orbiter Hydralander decks. Its effect fizzles if you mill cards and end up with more than 1 card of the same name in the GY, but you could chain fairy tail snow to the self mill effect to "fix" your graveyard so you could still resolve the pop a card effect

I used to play Chaos Dragons in 2016 more or less, I stopped playing Yugioh since then, but I found out about your channel and RANK10, and sparkled my wish to play again, imagine my sadness upon seeing that Eclipse Wyvern was banned, what made my deck work in the first place by searching Darkness Metal, summoning dragons along Chaos monsters and winning in one turn... Fortunately so much support came out to help my deck change for the better, and also leaving this game for few years is a nightmare, I feel like 10 years worth of new cards came out.

As an MTG player, it seems odd that Samsara Lotus was even a thing. To my mind, its effect is once per turn anyway, because I assumed it wasn't a choice, it just happened when your end phase began and that's it. yogioh is weird.
one of my favorite bits of d ruler lore is when they came out they caused big eye, a card that was considered a “garbage” secret rare no one wanted to pull from their booster boxes, to go from a few dollars tops, to overnight being an $80-90 card. not only were they a strong deck, but with a lot of secret rares you wanted in the extra deck at 3, and super rejuv which was a pretty hard to comeby card, they were a stupidly expensive deck as well. a fully loaded deck bought from singles would be about $700 give or take.
(un)popular opinion about Dragon Rulers: Only Redox deserves to be banned, the rest can come back since they have been powercrept. Also, I need Blaster back in my Volcanic Deck.... Day 617 of waiting for Good Pyro/Volcanic Support to arrive...

I remember back in the day during tourneys these and Spellbooks were the most dominant meta ever. When the baby dragons got banned it slowed the Meta so hard but there was a lot more variety in decks. Madolche, Bujins, Fire Fists, Gadgets, Harpies, Atlanteans, and Spellbooks, it was a lot of fun and my favorite time when I played Yu-gi-oh

Salad with blaster is meh, if they can choose something to get unbanned it Will be staillo. And Dino with more bricks isn't even that good(lothogasym+diagram, redox). They are much more consistent and stronger right now, why would you add more bricks just to get meager +1 at best?
I know I'm late to the video, but I think something that may help the Dragons stay good, without taking away it's repeatability, and would allow all four to get unbanned would be to add "you can only have one Dragon Ruler in your deck" to each of them. I think that combined with them limiting attribute special summons and/or giving up the battle phase or something could work too
I'll give the dragon rulers this much: they are cool as hell and about as 'fair' as broken cards get in yu-gi-oh. If they couldn't special summon themselves from the graveyard (a recurring issue with broken cards), they'd probably be fine at limited.
As someone who plays a Synchro Gishki deck, having a non-grave summonable water Dragon Ruler would be a wet dream. Send a Fishborg Launcher, an Atlantean, or Gishki Abyss to grave to set up my plays? Yes freaking please. With how the game is, even removing the "Summon from grave" wouldn't be able to fix them, even at once per duel. There is just too much that can benefit from the Dragon Rulers as is without utterly gutting the cards.
Just a note, Treeborn Frog's effect is NOT a hard once per turn. This can even be displayed in Duel Links. Treeborn effect, then literally any effect to put it back into the graveyard during the standby phase such as e-con tribute or any quickplay that will tribute it, and you'll be prompted to ask if you would like to use Treeborn Frog's effect again.
We're all here just waiting for the episode where you have to explain The Tyrant Neptune, once more. I kind of forget what it does and why it is on the Forbidden and Limited list.

That would fix a lot of the problem cards to be honest. Sure you can play one of these, but you can't then have this other thing. Most of the top decks are various amalgamations of the strongest cards with synergy, such as Dragon Link, and the only thing breaking those is the fact that they can have all those cards at 1 of in the deck. If you could only have 1 copy of a 1 of, suddenly the entire limited list becomes far more limiting. And as a Gishki player, I think this would be perfect to add into the game. Also, Gustkraken should not be at 3. Whose idea was that?!
@@clayxros576 lmao yea I agree for the most part. We shouldn't be able to run Appolusa and Savage Dragon, but one of them on their own isnt *too* bad. I wouldnt want too many cards in a "limit of 1" and "limit of 2" sections, but it could lead to some really interesting formats. Especially since you could have really strong combos locked behind those kinds of limitations, without removing popular cards/engines
@@TheMapleTurtle Exactly. Heck, theyd have to totally revamp the banned limited list of they introduced that version. So many cards would be able to come off, while putting cards on wouldn't be as horrific so they could do it more. For instance, Jet Synchron O-Lion and Needlefiber. All together absolutely degenerately broken. But, only having the option of 1/3 of them? Crystons get to keep their playmaker, Synchrons get to keep their playmaker, and Mecha Phantombeasts can keep their best Tuner, all while preventing the exact shenanigans that lead to the cards needing to be banned at all. Now that's not to say all cards could be unbanned in that instance. Stuff like Mirage of Nightmare, old school Makyura, and Djinn Releaser of Rituals woukd still be WAY too busted even if they're the only 1 of allowed. But it would let Konami play with what NEEDS banning and what stuff is ok if limited. Heck maybe they could play with it. Only 1 limited card, but you could have up to 2 semilimited, giving the semi limit spot a lot more relevance by only allowing that two of and no others.

If I could have change of heart but couldnt play Halqifibrax, I'd be willing to make that trade. I cant really see Konami going through with it though, as it would be a lot of work on their endm
@@TheMapleTurtle Yeah that's the main problem. Konami has a horrible track record with putting effort in, even when it comes to effort that would make them some cash. Like, sure Firewall Dragon can probably never come off the ban list, but changing the limited list rules to at least make testing a limit to the card would mean they could sell that ace monster again.
Also, while Spellbook of Judgment was released in Legacy of the Valiant, the same set as the D Rulers, the archetype already existed. They came out in Return of the Duelist iirc

I remember when I first tried getting back in to Yugioh since the Battle City days. I vividly remember facing this deck online, which led to me immediately putting down the game as a whole again for at least another 3-4 years.
There's speed duel battle city box at the end of the month. I'm gonna go in. Good for 8 to start, each have a starter deck (you can even combine the 2-3 characters for a deck) from speed duel and you got an affordable tournament literally out the box with 4 playmats. Booster packs are 4 cards so I dunno if people like that much.

All you really need to know is that the banlist acts as a way to balance patch the game and rotate out dominant strategies.
I kinda love how Dragon Rulers are this looming threat that triggers a panicked feeling in each player who was around during that time, when they are mentioned

The fact that there is exactly 9 trap cards banned, makes me think of which monster/spell you are gonna add in that when you eventually do it. Unless you arent gonna have a number 10 spot for it in general

@@sephikong8323 Makyura got an errata where if it's sent from the Monster Zone to the GY, you can activate 1 Trap Card from the hand that turn. Makyura also has a hard once per turn for this effect as well.
Ill never forget the summer of the dragon rulers. It was the first time I had ever experienced an emergency ban list and remember the thing that made this deck impossible was the sheer amount of cards that had 0 value from older sets being made almost broken by these cards

I don't understand why a decent amount of cards are banned because I'm an oldschool player who doesn't really keep up with the meta news wise, but your videos have given me some insight into the current meta, and these have been extremely fascinating. Me and my friends who I got into Yugioh, all choose to stay oldschool and not run Links or Xyzs, because of how broken the game state is at that point. It's a lot more fun. Two weeks ago I had an hour long duel with my friend where I was down to 4 cards in my deck and he had like 10, it was a consistent battle of one-upping each other with cards and effects and destroying each other's cards constantly, not one person taking 10 minutes to make an unbeatable board and then winning. loads of fun.
It still amazes me that dragon rulers never made tier 0 because of a spell card

Well if you gave judgement to any archetype it would be tier 0, so kudos to rulers for being able to stop them. I'm 100% confident that you could have a ojama version of judgment and turn ojamas T0.
Keep in mind, this spell card was probably the most broken card ever made (as a matter of fact, it's the number one card in this guy's video on the best cards in the game), and really, the Spellbook archetype was already pretty powerful, so Spellbook of Judgment just made them incredibly good.

That isn't saying much since the Ojama's, despite being the bane of everyone's existence, is actually pretty strong when you look at what they have access to. Even giving them a draw 2 would probably push them into solid Rogue tier, let alone a Spellbook of Judgement.

Blaster was the one dragon ruler I pulled, and it was at the height of his use. Didn't play competitively though and had no idea it was so good
Blaster is my second favorite Dragon ruler next to Tempest. If they were to ever unban any of the other dragon rulers I'd say it would be him since alot of cards nowadays have protection from destruction effects, have trigger effects that activate when they're destroyed or have protection from being targeted in general.
I totally forgot that the Dragon Rulers bounced themselves at the end of your opponent's turn, because it rarely came up.

I remember one game where a lightsworn player summoned snow on me every turn and constantly flipping my monster face down and going into rank 4 xyz monster. I told him snow should be banned after it was limited in the OCG at the time and he laughed at me a couple of months later guess who laughing now and still is

Competative minded players tend to think anything that doesn't hard counter their deck is fine for the game, gladly stomping any and every deck they come across just for the "practice cause this is a new build". Asking them what should or shouldn't be banned is always a bad idea cause they'll only ever pick cards that specifically counter their deck. In Force of Will that was fairly common even before the game jumped the shark, where comp players would mill around in casual or new player lobbies and go full force.
It legit took me a full year to learn how to build a deck because they only ever suggested busted cards with no context on the deck surrounding it. And at that point I was playing an inconsistent but fun meme deck that somehow occasionally stomped the meta decks, much to their utter shock. YuGiOh is almost all comp minded people, so asking anyone if a card should be banned will usually be answered with "Nah it's fine just play X or Y", ignoring the context of the deck the other person is trying to play.

I once lost to a Lightsworn player because of snow.
I cleared the field, got 4 monsters (pre link area) on the field and wanted to attack for game. He was able to revive snow 2 times during my turn, flipped my monsters with disruption face down and used it to swallow the 2 other attacks.
Then he banished giant rex with Snow and somehow won.

I played YuGiOh in tournaments exactly in 2013 and played Dragon Ruler.
Every tournament I went to was literally 80% players playing Dragon Ruler. You had Super Rejuvenation at three, a card that allows you to draw for every dragon tribute you made that turn. It was INSANE. The only deck that was able to compete with Dragon Ruler (and actually won a few tournaments) was Spellbooks.
Holy shoot. I stop playing the game before rulers and I never understood why they are banned until this video. A few more rulers card and they could had been tier 0

Our store has an annual event where the meta isnt allowed so Orcust was suddenly not playable.

I always check the ban list every now and then but honestly I didn't know Eclipse Wyvern was banned. I got 1 copy of that card (from Light&Dark structure deck). Really cool looking card, too bad it's banned for being too good.
Same exact story with me. No idea and I got the structure deck. I even play tested wyvern and it never felt strong for me. Still the structure deck was super cool.

The format after the Rulers were put to 1 which was beginning of 2014 I think, was one of the best formats I think we've ever had. There were so many decks being played and while the Rulers were still there they weren't oppressive like they were before, just a good deck along with the others. Still kinda want Tidal back for my Mermails, but it's probably better for it to still be banned.
I'm a history buff, and I'm loving the history of the ban list cards. Keep it up man
yknow something they could always do for the dragon rulers is what a lot of other card games do, that's "choice restriction" where in this case, all dragon rulers could be limited, but you can only include one in your deck. Vanguard and WiXoss do this and it's been very helpful in balancing the metagame.

They could also do this with A bunch of 2-card FTKs like “you can’t include mass driver and substitoad” on the same deck as an example to free up space. Or Samsara lotus because lool loops

I always wondered why Evilswarms were that powerfull around Dragon Rulers and Spellbook times.
But then basically got forgotten.
It was because Evilswarm, while being worse then either, countered both Dragon Rulers and Spellbooks.
I remember in 2013 I went to a regionals where the big decks were dragon rulers, bujin, and evil swarm. I think spell books was as well but almost nobody could afford the deck where I was. I ended up topping with a rank 4 focused harpie deck (pet dragon seemed too inconsistent to me) because the rank 4 pet dragon xyz was just shitting on everybody and nobody planned to harpies with side deck or anything. That was so fun haha

the spellbook archetype wasn't released in the same set as dragon rulers, they had been around for a while at that point, it was just that spellbook of judgment made them overpowered
currently don't recall if other spellbooks or prophecy monsters were released along with judgment but of course it was the only one that really mattered then anyways

Being someone who stopped playing Yugioh when synchros were new I never understood what was the big problem with dragon rulers until now and I think it’s going to be a while before we see a second of them gets unbanned
Machina Gadgets were underrated in this format, redox, ultimate offering, Lavalval chain, shockmaster, 101, gadgets could EASILY stand up and beat Rulers back then but no-one really played them. My favorite deck :)
I think that if Blaster return, Tidal, and Redox might as well be erased from the game entirely because their effects are not only the strongest of the bunch, but if we had three limited dragon rulers, we would not need the fourth to make this deck work again, and as long as dragon link exists, blaster also needs to stay banned, Tempest is already good there, imagine with a Blaster. It kind of hurts to say that Blaster cannot come back because he has probably my favorite design with Tidal and I would love to use him in salads, but I need to see the bigger picture, and the bigger picture is not pretty.
As a person who only played back in the anime days where Gemini Elf and Summoned Skull were top tier cards in my school, this type of video is absolutely amazing to watch. So much crazy shit happened with this game.

Makes me wonder what the hell was Konami thinking when they decided to print those things. If you decide to make basically one-card engines, that can work with 4 out of 6 archetypes, with the 4th most popular type in the game, and with each other, I have n idea how can you not think twice about it.
In regards to dragon rulers, Konami didn’t think people would make a deck around them. They did think about the fact that the dragon rulers actually worked with each other. They were all suppose to be used to support attribute based decks.

fairy tail snow was so cool in Orbiter Hydralander decks. Its effect fizzles if you mill cards and end up with more than 1 card of the same name in the GY, but you could chain fairy tail snow to the self mill effect to "fix" your graveyard so you could still resolve the pop a card effect

I used to play Chaos Dragons in 2016 more or less, I stopped playing Yugioh since then, but I found out about your channel and RANK10, and sparkled my wish to play again, imagine my sadness upon seeing that Eclipse Wyvern was banned, what made my deck work in the first place by searching Darkness Metal, summoning dragons along Chaos monsters and winning in one turn...
Fortunately so much support came out to help my deck change for the better, and also leaving this game for few years is a nightmare, I feel like 10 years worth of new cards came out.

As an MTG player, it seems odd that Samsara Lotus was even a thing. To my mind, its effect is once per turn anyway, because I assumed it wasn't a choice, it just happened when your end phase began and that's it. yogioh is weird.
I waited so long to be able to add Blaster to Infernoids, that now that we have it, I'm not exited anymore, not even sure if it's a viable choice

one of my favorite bits of d ruler lore is when they came out they caused big eye, a card that was considered a “garbage” secret rare no one wanted to pull from their booster boxes, to go from a few dollars tops, to overnight being an $80-90 card. not only were they a strong deck, but with a lot of secret rares you wanted in the extra deck at 3, and super rejuv which was a pretty hard to comeby card, they were a stupidly expensive deck as well. a fully loaded deck bought from singles would be about $700 give or take.

When the baby dragons got banned it slowed the Meta so hard but there was a lot more variety in decks. Madolche, Bujins, Fire Fists, Gadgets, Harpies, Atlanteans, and Spellbooks, it was a lot of fun and my favorite time when I played Yu-gi-oh

Salad with blaster is meh, if they can choose something to get unbanned it Will be staillo. And Dino with more bricks isn't even that good(lothogasym+diagram, redox). They are much more consistent and stronger right now, why would you add more bricks just to get meager +1 at best?
I know I'm late to the video, but I think something that may help the Dragons stay good, without taking away it's repeatability, and would allow all four to get unbanned would be to add "you can only have one Dragon Ruler in your deck" to each of them. I think that combined with them limiting attribute special summons and/or giving up the battle phase or something could work too
I'll give the dragon rulers this much: they are cool as hell and about as 'fair' as broken cards get in yu-gi-oh. If they couldn't special summon themselves from the graveyard (a recurring issue with broken cards), they'd probably be fine at limited.
As someone who plays a Synchro Gishki deck, having a non-grave summonable water Dragon Ruler would be a wet dream. Send a Fishborg Launcher, an Atlantean, or Gishki Abyss to grave to set up my plays? Yes freaking please. With how the game is, even removing the "Summon from grave" wouldn't be able to fix them, even at once per duel. There is just too much that can benefit from the Dragon Rulers as is without utterly gutting the cards.

Just a note, Treeborn Frog's effect is NOT a hard once per turn. This can even be displayed in Duel Links. Treeborn effect, then literally any effect to put it back into the graveyard during the standby phase such as e-con tribute or any quickplay that will tribute it, and you'll be prompted to ask if you would like to use Treeborn Frog's effect again.

You could probably fix Dragon Rulers with a limit system like in duel links. Only one of the Dragon Rulers allowed per deck. That sort of thing.
That would fix a lot of the problem cards to be honest. Sure you can play one of these, but you can't then have this other thing. Most of the top decks are various amalgamations of the strongest cards with synergy, such as Dragon Link, and the only thing breaking those is the fact that they can have all those cards at 1 of in the deck. If you could only have 1 copy of a 1 of, suddenly the entire limited list becomes far more limiting.
And as a Gishki player, I think this would be perfect to add into the game. Also, Gustkraken should not be at 3. Whose idea was that?!
@@clayxros576 lmao yea I agree for the most part. We shouldn't be able to run Appolusa and Savage Dragon, but one of them on their own isnt *too* bad. I wouldnt want too many cards in a "limit of 1" and "limit of 2" sections, but it could lead to some really interesting formats. Especially since you could have really strong combos locked behind those kinds of limitations, without removing popular cards/engines

Exactly. Heck, theyd have to totally revamp the banned limited list of they introduced that version. So many cards would be able to come off, while putting cards on wouldn't be as horrific so they could do it more. For instance, Jet Synchron O-Lion and Needlefiber. All together absolutely degenerately broken. But, only having the option of 1/3 of them? Crystons get to keep their playmaker, Synchrons get to keep their playmaker, and Mecha Phantombeasts can keep their best Tuner, all while preventing the exact shenanigans that lead to the cards needing to be banned at all.
Now that's not to say all cards could be unbanned in that instance. Stuff like Mirage of Nightmare, old school Makyura, and Djinn Releaser of Rituals woukd still be WAY too busted even if they're the only 1 of allowed. But it would let Konami play with what NEEDS banning and what stuff is ok if limited.
Heck maybe they could play with it. Only 1 limited card, but you could have up to 2 semilimited, giving the semi limit spot a lot more relevance by only allowing that two of and no others.

If I could have change of heart but couldnt play Halqifibrax, I'd be willing to make that trade. I cant really see Konami going through with it though, as it would be a lot of work on their endm

Yeah that's the main problem. Konami has a horrible track record with putting effort in, even when it comes to effort that would make them some cash. Like, sure Firewall Dragon can probably never come off the ban list, but changing the limited list rules to at least make testing a limit to the card would mean they could sell that ace monster again.
Also, while Spellbook of Judgment was released in Legacy of the Valiant, the same set as the D Rulers, the archetype already existed. They came out in Return of the Duelist iirc
