Can't tell you how much I enjoyed this! I recently had major surgery so I dug out the NES and have been playing FF1. I have never tried a speed run and I picked up lots of new tricks from you. Bravo!!
I remember waiting to get this game I had completed Dragon Warrior a few months past and in my Nintendo Power they were adverstising Final Fantasy and my friends and I were counting the days until it arrived. I made it into an event for my weekend and played the mess out of it, a great game and the changing of your sprite when you got far along blowed my mind.
I was bummed i didnt get to be there live for this... i was falling asleep in my chair during mt gulg... Glad to see you were able to finish it out and get that time Feas :D Monstrous props man, this was a great watch :D
I would have to say that the few things that I hated about this game after the fact when I played later FF game was that the attacks didn't shift to the next enemy after the original targeted enemy was dead and that you couldn't buy in multiples in shops, it was all one at a time. Yes, I went back and played this game on an original NES and it was painful, but fun.
Quick Question, back in the 80's while playing this game one of the names for the early swords always puzzled me I thought it was such a strange name for a sword but it grew on me and stayed in the back of my head for 30 years. Well when Game of Thrones hit HBO I was drawn into the story and in one episode something amazing happened someone gave their sword a name, a name that completely turned me back into that kid playing Final Fantasy, the name of the sword was the same name I had came acrossed as a child that puzzled me so long ago, the swords name was "Needle" when translated for English players was the name Needle giving to our early sword pulled from Game of Thrones?
Man, you lucked out big time against the WIzards/Piscodemons. How risky was that strat exactly? I'm considering running this game, but I feel like it would be better to get to at least level 5 going into the Marsh cave.
A successful wizard fight is always a lucky one if you're not high enough level to use LIT2. I try to get L5 by the time i fight them since you get more HP, but i don't go out of my way for L5

I went on vacation on Sept 1 and missed this run - glad I was able to catch the playback, congrats! BTW 1:54:23 holy smokes, pucker factor 10!

is there a reason you passed on the Aegis shield in the Mirage Tower?
