"I'm just a girl standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her" The most memorable line in romcom films history! especially when it's translated into my language

The face acting by both of them in this scene is fantastic. Julia's when she reacts to the bad news, and Hugh's at the end of her "I'm just a girl" monologue. Just fantastic acting.
I love how he kindly calls her out for her "foul temper". Something that she showed in the scene when he opens the door to the paparazzi. I also think it's funny how she says "the fame thing isn't real".... Something he tried to make her see on that same scene, but she was too caught up in her anger and spewing nasty comments to him at the time. He is really the only person with the character to make her accountable for her earlier behavior.
The thing is, on reflection I think she had every right to be angry in the paparazzi scene. Not for the reasons given in the film but for the fact that noone with any kind of sense would have allowed her to go to the front door.
You can tell this guy loves her through the fact that he has patience to hear her out, and asked the customer to leave immediately. When I confessed to a guy, I didn’t know what to say. He became impatient as he had a set routine and schedule. At that time, I just didn’t want to say it anymore. I eventually shared it just to find closure and give him up. I don’t like a guy who’s not even generous with his time with a girl when she’s confessing her love to him.
Most likely figured what was coming and wanted to give you a more graceful way out so you could stay friends. Been on your side of the fence myself and it’s not exactly kind but there’s not a great way to put the brakes on someone I guess. Hang in there, hope you find the right person to reciprocate your feelings.

Trying to get to know more of Julia Roberts' work. Does she always look natural like this in most of her movies? That is - she doesn't look like she's acting - she appears natural, relaxed, like she's playing herself.
“ don’t forget I am just a girl” who feels entitled to have every type of manipulative behaviors and to dismiss persons like old shoes but pretends after all this Sh*t to be forgiven and loved.
is a good thing to say what you feel . is okay also to say no to a person, no meter how famoue she is . at list you show your true feeling , and not feeling in force is okay to say no ❤😊
How the hell does one stare back with a blank face when the love of your life has just said "I'm just a girl standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her"?? I loved this movie but I think they missed the mark with that important moment.
Are you kidding me??? I’m hetero, and I’ve rewatched this movie like 4-5 times, and this particular scene dozens of times. It’s just so honest, vulnerable, heartfelt, and exactly what my romantic soul would wish to do in such a situation 😊 Simply perfect, as is every single second of this movie 🤩

@@RideAcrossTheRiver sorry to hear you went through something like this. Glad you cared enough to save yourself. She is only one who can facilitate change. My situation different but still sincere
As much as I love Hugh, Julia kind of outperforms him in this scene. Not saying it's a competition or anything, but the amount of emotion she low-key carries through a couple of lines should have had more than a "awkward as usual" re-acting from him. I mean don't get me wrong Hugh's style actually worked miracles in all their other scenes in the film but here is kind of a let down.
Hugh Grant is a really good actor in one role, like Keanu Reeves. Other than that....well, not that much. But Julia Roberts offers a lot of subtle emotions in this movie particularly... great scene
@@cowboystyle4513 -- yes. "on the phone" means a call either incoming or outgoing. If someone in your house calls to you while you're trying to have a phone conversation you would call back "I'm on the phone!" -- even if it were a mobile or you were borrowing somebody else's phone. Likewise, if you call to someone to notify them of an incoming call, you would say "it's your mother on the phone" as James Dreyfus does here. You would only say "on your phone" to emphasise whose phone if there were more than one. And even then it's subtle -- in an office environment with several landlines you would probably say "on your line". But with mobiles you'd probably say "she's on YOUR phone".
