Mr. C - I'm guessing that a great many audiophiles would appreciate a series of videos of you designing and building several high-end, very high quality stereo tube audio amplifiers that can be built by your audience with parts generally available, using point-to-point wiring (I'm guessing many of us aren't equipped to create circuit boards). Maybe a single-ended class A, a class AB. You might also include an integrated amp design. Your explanations of design parameters and build preferences would be instructive, entertaining and valuable to those of us appreciating your attention to detail and high performance standards. Please consider it.
Wow...simply wow. I am not worthy sir. Here I am at a basement bench with laundry spinning in my washing machine, trying to not screw up a Motorola VT-71 TV restoration, smelling the acrid odor of something I destroyed on a power up that popped so loud I jumped in my seat...and I see this. Someone said below they wished they could mind-meld with you...I'm certain my head would burst! I've never seen such perfection! Your design skills, technique and aesthetics are...well...mind blowing! Thank you so much for these videos and good luck with putting the finishing touches on the shop!

I appreciate the patience and dedication you have to teaching us all of this. A while ago I started to get into electronics and signed up to a few electronics forums, bearing in mind I was VERY green. I posted some stuff, mainly circuits I designed but hadn't yet built, asking (perfectly politely) if an experienced guru would be kind enough to tell me what errors I'd made and how I could improve the design. The replies I got were abhorrent, people saying "read a book before posting here" and folk spouting jargon they knew I would not understand at my level. Absolutely the kind of reaction that would put me off carrying on with the interest forever. What really got to me was that the forum operators were doing nothing about this, and I wasn't the only one to be treated this way, I found many posts by raw noobs who were being berated much the same way.
Many electronic forums are like that, the problem isn't with you, it's with them. The same thing goes on in HAM radio as well. Just people trying to look smart, when really they are not. You won't find that here on my channel, or on my Patreon page. Lot's of "mature" people here. Have a Merry Christmas!
Like Mr. C, I try to be as encouraging as possible to noobs on those forums (fora?). There are times, however, when the description of what they're trying to do is so impractical or dangerous that really I can't tell them anything more than they don't have near the knowledge they need to pull off what they're trying to do and could literally end up killing themselves if they tried. Yes, there are a-holes, but it's not entirely impossible that such an explanation as what I just illustrated is entirely called for, though I don't resort to any name-calling.

Hi Mr Carlson. Love your channel, my mother's maiden name was Carlson, good Swedish name! Today, Christmas day, I spent most of it with family at my house here in Southern California listening to my great uncle's 1953 or 54, best I can narrow it down, Zenith Am Fm radio console with the Cobramatic turntable. He bought it new, and I inherited in 1994, when he passed at 100! In the 28 years I've owned it, not once has it had a single issue. Some days its on 8 to 10 hours a day. All original, including the large single speaker which sounds absolutely beautiful. The set has no hum or hiss at all, just plays beautiful, including the record player. The Zenith slogan was very factual indeed, The quality goes in before the name goes on. Also growing up in the 60s 70s, my parents only purchased Zenith products, and I have some of them, they STILL WORK!

I have no idea how you manage to keep it interesting years and years after I discovered your channel. You really never get boring! I could stare at the Grand Cathedral Series I for hours! (I did, in fact, stare at it the entire time it was on-screen.) That is one GORGEOUS amplifier, a work of art that I'm certain sounds just as wonderful as it looks. Great restoration of that vintage Sony, as well! Retaining its original aesthetic while improving its function. I heartily approve!
I was looking at those PCBs in the radio wondering "What's he doing, it only needs a resistor". Then I saw why, wow! I just love that there are so many options, all controlled by that original switch.

Just looking at the collection of instruments and equipment on your bench is a walk down memory lane. From mid-watches in the tracking stations, to custom instrumenting sonar experiments, to designing and testing gadgets of all sorts, many of those items were part of each day. Beautiful.
One of my favourite projects to watch and see you use was the Nixie Counter in the case of that Bakelite clock. It came out so lovely and you use it often.
Just about every time I watch your videos, my mouth is hanging open in 'awe'. Many times I simply cannot believe what I'm seeing because the 'works' are of such beauty, both mechanically and electronically. You are quite a genius and meticulous at everything you do ... and believe me, I do appreciate that (being a perfectionist). Thanks for a great video and looking forward to taking your 'new' course. Resto-modding is my absolute favorite. The whole idea of taking a good piece of equipment and augmenting with newer technology in a way that's almost transparent is pure enjoyment for me.

The more I view your videos concerning your work, the more impressed I am. You are not just an engineer genius, but a scientist who wants to understand each step of a project. Much engineering, I have found, is based on "This works so do it, but that doesn't so do not do that" with minimal caring of why this situation is so. You want to understand what is best, why it is best so that you can improve on it in the future, and then use such knowledge to apply the new knowledge to other tasks in the future. Of course it helps that you are superbly capable in your ability to evaluate such things. The world needs more like you.

Mr C, I'm blown away at the Mod you did on the receiver, it's totally something that's in the realm of my thinking. I'm not sure if I have monies to go through anyone's patrion, but I'm gong to look into it regarding yours. I would much rather spend monies to learn from you instead of time and monies on netflix. I was fortunate back in the 90's to have gone through tech college, but unfortunately my instructors actually didn't teach, they literally just told you where to sit and to read out of your books. On the flip side, as soon as I got out of school, I was off to work at an electronics repair shop, but sadly only worked the counter. The owner however did like me and did teach me many things.
The amplifier you have built here is absolutely beautiful! Not only does it look great, but I know that it is of the highest precision, quality, and love for what you do. Very inspiring, and I hope to one day build my own amplifier of this caliber.
Oh my, I LOVE the Grand Cathedral! And that it uses a Tektronix mains transformer. A thing of beauty in itself. Sorry to hear the story of these destroyed scopes... I'd love to have one someday in my lab BTW. They're just hard to come across in my country. Gotta make a few videos on some remarkable amps I built, haha! Count me in on that course. Mr. Carlson, I believe this has been mentioned in the past, probably by a number of viewers. But I want to add my "reinforcing" vote. I believe MANY of your viewers would like to watch a fairly lengthy episode explaining your biography. Such subjects as going back to the very beginning, how you first started tinkering with electrons. And then a thorough history of your schooling. Where, when, what, how, etc. And then what you did professionally before your TH-cam days. I think that a video that goes through most of that would be one of your most popular. Also, if you have had your IQ tested, that would be interesting to know (the result). Don't be modest, let us 130 guys know if there is any hope for us. I love the look of your amplifier I looks similar to the little transmitter I made using two 1625s for modulation and two 1625s for output. It works ok but I can’t give it a full on air test just yet because my license restrictions mean I can only run 10w and the AM output is 30w. Your channel blows me away in how detailed your explanations are! I am a long time subscriber, and now that I finally came across a video with a radio that features this black film like material as you tune the band, I have a working DX-300 Realistic all band receiver. The film on my radio slips and doesn't have the traction to go around the pulleys. The film is a rubber like material. I got it at Radio Shack in 1975 when the store was a true electronics store with components included!

Interested in THD measurements of that gorgeous amp with and without feedback. Normally super skeptical about people not running feedback, but if you're doing it I'm actually keen to hear more about why in this case since you know what you're doing and always have good reasons. Also interested in a talk on how you control gain/frequency response in no feedback mode.
I agree with others who say “it’s criminal that you can get all the educational content from Mr Carlson for $2/month on Patreon”. It’s probably the biggest “bang” for two bucks you can get anywhere. Mr Carlson is a national treasure.

Mr C, I'm blown away at the Mod you did on the receiver, it's totally something that's in the realm of my thinking. I'm not sure if I have monies to go through anyone's patrion, but I'm gong to look into it regarding yours. I would much rather spend monies to learn from you instead of time and monies on netflix.
I was fortunate back in the 90's to have gone through tech college, but unfortunately my instructors actually didn't teach, they literally just told you where to sit and to read out of your books. On the flip side, as soon as I got out of school, I was off to work at an electronics repair shop, but sadly only worked the counter. The owner however did like me and did teach me many things.
The amplifier you have built here is absolutely beautiful! Not only does it look great, but I know that it is of the highest precision, quality, and love for what you do. Very inspiring, and I hope to one day build my own amplifier of this caliber.

Oh my, I LOVE the Grand Cathedral! And that it uses a Tektronix mains transformer. A thing of beauty in itself. Sorry to hear the story of these destroyed scopes... I'd love to have one someday in my lab BTW. They're just hard to come across in my country.

I believe this has been mentioned in the past, probably by a number of viewers. But I want to add my "reinforcing" vote.
I believe MANY of your viewers would like to watch a fairly lengthy episode explaining your biography. Such subjects as going back to the very beginning, how you first started tinkering with electrons. And then a thorough history of your schooling. Where, when, what, how, etc. And then what you did professionally before your TH-cam days. I think that a video that goes through most of that would be one of your most popular.
Also, if you have had your IQ tested, that would be interesting to know (the result). Don't be modest, let us 130 guys know if there is any hope for us.
I can not afford to join Patreon, so if you have already done this there, I have not seen it.

Totally incredible knowledge and design implementation shown here, these projects are just amazing. I'm surprised McIntosh Labs hasn't "begged" you to join them, who knows, maybe they have. Beautiful restoration and improvement of the Sony receiver, the looks and function are impressive. The lab from my limited view looks stunning, it will no doubt be an ideal place to showcase your skills and passion of electronics. I love the look of your amplifier I looks similar to the little transmitter I made using two 1625s for modulation and two 1625s for output. It works ok but I can’t give it a full on air test just yet because my license restrictions mean I can only run 10w and the AM output is 30w. I’ve been a long time viewer and I decided to start restoring my own valve kit and build new kit thanks to you.

Your channel is akin to a "Vintage Electronics Museum & Restoration" on steroids man. As a young kid some 60 years ago dreamt about someday owning a electronics shop but never knew what that would be like. Now I know exactly what it should look like, "Mr. Carson's Lab"😁😁😎😎. Although I traded off becoming a material scientist, never lost my awe for everything electronics and its a hobby now. You do us all a great favor by not only showcasing your E-jewels but teach us a lot about the fine "radio-science" along the way which is a joy to watch and learn. Rama USA

that I finally came across a video with a radio that features this black film like material as you tune the band, I have a working DX-300 Realistic all band receiver. The film on my radio slips and doesn't have the traction to go around the pulleys. The film is a rubber like material. I got it at Radio Shack in 1975 when the store was a true electronics store with components included!

The Sony receiver looks great, but the one you featured in another video some time ago (with the digital clock) is my favorite, very well done👍👍👍
Interested in THD measurements of that gorgeous amp with and without feedback. Normally super skeptical about people not running feedback, but if you're doing it I'm actually keen to hear more about why in this case since you know what you're doing and always have good reasons. Also interested in a talk on how you control gain/frequency response in no feedback mode.
I agree with others who say “it’s criminal that you can get all the educational content from Mr Carlson for $2/month on Patreon”. It’s probably the biggest “bang” for two bucks you can get anywhere. Mr Carlson is a national treasure.
