MY CO - HOST
Griff Martin AKA The Rocket Scientist is the Co Host Of the Craig Read Stoned Roadie Podcast. Griff known as the man that can get anything like Radar O'Reilly on mash has even lavished Craig his podcast partner with hard to find items. You may see Craig appear on the show with some of these items like Craig"s Rocket Scientist lab coat and even an airline pilot captains hat and shirt. Craig will tell you he likes gifts but if their gifts anyone can get he doesn't want them. Griff spent 35 years at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Cocoa Beach Florida processing and transporting human space flight hardware. He has supported over 100 space shuttle flights and just before he retired helped to assemble the shuttle replacement rocket ARTIMUS set to launch this year. During Griff's career he has worked as a technical director in many major motion pictures at Kennedy like Armageddon, Apollo Thirteen, Space Cowboys and First Man. Griff is a long time fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd and met Craig on FB where they both share the same wit and humor. Craig invited Griff to go on a VIP tour to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and they have been friends ever since.
My heart goes out to Allen Collins, the sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Would love to take the west side tour with Gene. Fly High Free Bird!!!
This makes me emotional - i remember jumping the barricade and shaking Mr VanZant's hand and I told Allen I loved him - we touched hands and he said " love you too , bro " - 1989 Louisville KY
1989?
@@pitchforkj Possibly Johnny Van Zant? and Allen would be dead less than a year later, so yeah makes you wonder but you know all the positive vibes in the world.
Allen was far too ill in 1989 to be on the road and was paralyzed in a wheelchair, and Ronnie had been dead for 12 years by 1989.
I think I was at that show and Ed King was in the band
@@FRAME5RS tribute tour - he was in a wheelchair
Rewatched this episode! Such a great one! Gene's story of the mosquito stinging Craig, getting immediately stoned then crashing!!! 😂 Also loved hearing the info on early band names, Ronnie's dreaming of football, baseball and boxing. Gene says RVZ quit school about the same time Coach Skinner started at Robert E. Lee HS. So impressive that Kathy was persistent in meeting Allen!! Great memories for her! 👏🥰
Gene Odom has a great memory and is great at refreshing Craig's memory I guess the best place to be as far as Southern Rock goes is in the same room with those two Road Warriors
Gene Odom has some awesome stories.
Another great episode. Really cool story about Kathy's encounter with Allen! And Gene is just great every time I hear his stories. Cant wait for number 29
I really enjoyed hearing Kathy talk about Allen Collins. She got to meet the man in person. Unbelievable!
Great show guys and Miss Kathy, always intriguing to hear Gene's stories. What a talent Allen Collins was, tragic in so many ways..
⁴
Loved hearing your story about meeting Allen, Kathy! It's funny because I made a trip to Jacksonville from Virginia in 1980 right around that same exact time! Little did I know back then anything about Lynyrd Skynyrd and the ties to that area. Love to hear any stories about Allen and yours was very interesting and personal. Thanks!
Great show Griff please bring Gene back I could listen to him and Craig for hours on end really just a tragic story about Allen I knew some of it but not all keep em coming ✌👍💯
Great episode guys and Kathy. To be honest I'm a little disturbed at how reckless Allen was in a car. It sounds like it was a miracle he only killed one person.
Just want to say thank you to all you all, really enjoyed this, never get tired of hearing about Lynyrd Skynyrd and Gene and and Ronnies younger days, love it, keep them coming, God bless you all ! 🥰
I'm with you. I can listen to stories or Lynyrd Skynyrd especially Leon Wilkeson whom I met at at 10yrs old.
I love these shows. I learn so many things I didn't anything about. God bless you all!
Another great episode guys I think they just keep getting better this one blew my doors off it don’t get no better if you get Jeanne Odom and Craig reed together excellent job guys keep them coming we need T-shirts and hats guys is that a possibility
Man, I love Gene. I thoroughly enjoyed this show. It really opened my eyes to alot. I knew Gene had a bond with Allen but it was way more than I knew until watching this program. To me, Gene is the "real deal" and everything he says is 💯! God bless you guys for getting this on air for us long time diehard fans!
I'll be damned.
I tune in Stoned Roadies YTs for, "inside baseball" about "my band" ;-) from the guy whose home movie camera's haunted me for 40+ years.
And what pops up but as beautiful a woman's face I'll ever see. I ain't in Jersey or Jax but far away the PacificNW. From TriCities Washington state tho,
I repeat the words Charlie Daniels said: "Long live the music of the LynyrdSkynyrd band!"
Gene is so funny. Hope you have him on more.
Gene Rodeo is the MAN
Another great episode 💯👍🎊
First one here, awesome! Another great show, LOVE these stories. Keep them coming!
What a great story. What a player Alan was, and we love Gene.
I love the history of the band. Allen has always been my favorite. Thank you guys for sharing your life stories with us! I could listen to these all day!
Allen was along with Ronnie , the Alpha - he was the musicsl leader and he was a great writer - and his guitar - speaks for itself -
Rossington Collins at Garden State Arts Center early 80s. Great memory, first time seeing the band for this young Skynyrd freak. go Jersey!
I enjoy hearing Gene tell his stories
Another Great Episode!
Allen was a monster of a musician!
Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd. Being from the same side of town, I love this band. Also lived in Orange Park, close to where Ronnie had a place off of Brickyard Road.
God bless all those that make this kind of stuff available for all to watch. Gene and Craig and everyone thanks you for this video.
I've been to Jacksonville like 3 times in the last 10 years and sought out a few Skynard sites ..been to Brickyards Road and the Freebird Cafe.....I should of got a hold of Gene Odom to take one of his tours...love the podcasts-- I am trying to watch everyone...thank you guy's !!
Always love hearing the stories, thanks
Another Stellar episode! Great job!
Very interesting stories, thanks!
So good to see Gene smiling & laughing, love the mosquitoe 🦟 story! 🤗🫂😂🤣😂😅
I was 13 or 14 yrs old when my best friend bought their first album and learned and sang those songs throughout my life and some on guitar as my hobby.
I'm 61 now and can't sing anymore, unless I'm in the shower & pull down as hard as I can on my testicles, then I sound more like Led Zeppelin! (immigrant song 😬)
So many good memories with Lynyrd Skynyrd music, I was hangin on to every word of these stories!
God bless you all for taking the time to put this episode together.
Gene & Craig, man I would love to have known you
boys for some good ol bullshit
sessions! Pretty much left me craving for more!
Hey guys, I've seen every one of these stoned rodie podcasts and you guys are really hitting your stride. Alot of cool stories left...keep em comin
Very sad story of Allen ...you guy's dealt with a truckload of issues ...LOVED ALL THE STORIES GENE --- GROWING UP WITH RONNIE....
Another classic episode...:)
Gene is a great storyteller. It’s all true too.
Loved this episode of the Stoned Roadie Show, yall had a awesome show had to watch it twice.
I wouldn't be able to wait to get the film developed either and I'm so happy for her did she got to meet Allen especially like this through Gene and it just shows how regular people relate so well to Allen Collins and Lynyrd Skynyrd in general because they were just real people.Real cool and talented tho in a way to delight any fan
I love that their concert recordings have always rivaled the studio work.Strong work ethic and lots of truth.
The film camera dates the time Era and and me,I'm 61 grew up 20 miles south of the band in Jax here in Florida loved em since I was frosh in '76 I'm still devastated by the crash but prouder yet of what they were and accomplished. I worked in nearby Leesburg driving tour busses attack Calhouns ranch when Randy Rhodes and co.crashed later.
So glad both live on.Forever
Peace
Gene is such a likable person. I want to do the west side tour!
Man! That was fantastic!!! I look forward to the podcasts every week. Love these stories! Gene sure brings a lot to the table. Any chance Gary would make an appearance with ya’ll? That would be really cool. Keep up the great great work!!!!
Doug from South Florida soon to be North Florida!☮️

it sounds like to me Allen Collins had depression after his wife passed away and never got help for it, rip Allen.
Interesting: I’m happy for Kathy to have realized some of her fan dreams in meeting Allen, and sad to hear about Allen’s many struggles towards their inevitable conclusion…
Great show
Hi Craig..I love the show
That's to cool
Gene Odom is the MAN
Great episide!!
We love you all friends
Love and miss you Gene❤️
Gene, I work with a guy by the name of Richard was that your brother and I worked up at the White springs papermill as an ironworker apprentice I think it happened to be your dad, John Bowden was the business agent at that time and he sent me up there to work.
Hey guys just wanted to say I was at that lone star Café show in New York City and I was in a Lynyrd Skynyrd cover band an hour singer thought he was Ronnie Van Zandt and we were all backstage and white Craig says true about Jimmy Daugherty and I’ll never forget that night when that douche bag thought he was something and Alan walked off the stage I still have pictures with Leon Billy Barry Lee and Derek from that night but I didn’t get one with Alan but I remember that night
I would love to hear from gene about Leon Wilkinson Artimus stories can’t be trusted. You tell it I believe every time I hear artimus say MY BAND on some of his interviews make my skin crawl
Leon Wilkison was tight with his money. He collected bags of sand because he thought the seas were rising. He refused to buy food, pay bills...anything at all....so Artimus had to pay for everything. Leon spent over 7 million dollars on bags of sand. There are pictures of this giant sandbag structure he made 35 miles south of Jacksonville. This is what Artimus told me.
Was Leon nuts.? The bags of sand is weird for sure. I’ve read several comments and videos tell that he gave most of his stuff to anyone and everyone he knew and sometimes other persons stuff❤
Love ya Gene!
Do you ever think how odd it was that both Ronnie & Steve G were killed? Both singers for LS-and what would it been like if Steve had lived-? He might a continued to sing for LS instead of Johnny today
Kathy sure is a pretty lady
Ms Godsey is a very attractive lady!
She`s pretty.
my question is do you miss Ronnie?
and what can you tell us about him that hasn't been written?
Can you tell us about Ronnie's funeral?
Craig was still in the hospital
Gene was still in the hospital and didn't know Ronnie had died till months later when he got out of the hospital and his girlfriend took him to the graveyard to see Ronnie.
is it tru thatRonnie never wrote anything down? Did you ever witness Ronnie write?
what is the truth about Ronnie's closed casket?
why don't you bring Artimus on to talk to Gene?
I've seen interviews with Gene. Gene refuses to say Artimus's name.
That would be entertaining to say the least. Both are equally full of it and want to be the center of attention.....
LOL @ 17:06:
So LeeRoy Yarbrough was picking up cans and you gave him some money, huh Gene....🤥
Gene never passes up an opportunity to bash Gary. Pathetic
Cause gary tried to steal from a dead mans family.
As Artimus put it .... "Gene's just a guy trying to be more important than he actually was."
Jeans Sodom
@@t.a.169 Artimus has told more lies than the entire CNN team.
@@t.a.169 Gene was ron's best friend and body guard ...he was important and 100% believable unlike the others who change stories
GO s a Ds
That's pretty sad situation to see these guys just self-destruct especially as talented as they were. I have a few pictures of Lynyrd Skynyrd stuff on the walls I'm looking at one right now with Alan and Gary. The rossington Collins band and the Allen Collins band are excellent albums I have both of them over my sun visor. And when I listen to the Allen Collins band it reminds me a lot of the Lynyrd Skynyrd group
