This was the first video of Emma that I watched after becoming aware of her from the Maastricht performance of 'Voila' with Andre Rieu. My intention was to find out how a relatively unknown 15 year old girl from the Netherlands came to be on that stage in Maastricht with one of the most renowned Maestros and orchestras in the world.
After watching this video it became very clear to me that Emma was something very special indeed. In every aspect of vocal and performance abilities she simply outshone all the other contestants. She was utterly fearless and unintimated. She just took care of business, and made it look effortless and completely natural. You are quite correct. She is a born singer, and I will go further. She has a destiny to use her enormous talent and personal charisma to make this world a better place. By all that she has accomplished so far in her young life, I would say she is well on her way to fulfilling that destiny.
Thank you for reacting to Emma's Voice Kids journey. Your commentary was spot on and precluded much of what I would have said had you not said it first. All the best.

A can add little nothing to your reaction, you said it all. I really enjoyed it.
Having her birthday mid series, Emma was 12 years old for the first few songs and 13 at the end but despite her age her maturity and confidence is mesmerising.
The duet with Ali B with a song he wrote to describe the relationship between parent and child is sublime.
For me the final song is the pièce de résistance. Emma is so at ease with herself, alive, and her eyes are so expressive. The way she steps forward part way through and increases her movement shout out that’s she’s having fun with it, with no sign she feels under any pressure from it being the series finale. It’s no wonder she won!

Excellent reaction, Michael. Your comments were spot on. Emma’s natural vibrato was simply better than the other kids. Her confidence and breath control were improved in the 2nd “Warrior” cover and allowed her lower notes to have more support. I’m always impressed with her enunciation and how finishes each word and phrase clearly, whether singing in English, Dutch, or French (Voilà). That is professionalism and takes a lot of work. I’ll have to check out her German song next! Again, great reaction.

Michael, thank you so much for a very detailed and specific commentary on Emma's first rise to fame, and it's very clear that she impressed you as well as everyone that voted for her during the competition, and since that time, Emma has risen even further, and become an even stronger singer and performer, with a very unique voice, and to then make her even more powerful, she has taken all the issues that have surrrounded her illness, and made them a part of her life, both the good and the bad aspects of her life have become a significant part of her personality, she has what I can best describe as a poweful vulnerability, she's way beyond looking for sympathy for her illness, she has decided that she is not going to let her illness define her, she has very much risen above it, but taken it and used it to give her an extra edge, a way to get deep into the hearts and minds of her audiences, and they react so positively to her, she puts so much emotion and feeling into her songs, they become captured by her, and she has the ability to get very deep into everyone around her.
You said so much about her singing ability, I can't add to that, and you also picked up on specifics, like her use of harmony, and I'm pretty sure that some of the time, it's not been planned, she just does what comes naturally, but so powerfully, she stands out, but in the right way, she enhances the overall effect, and it's very effective, and a technique that Andre is starting to encourage, she did a lovely song earlier this year as part of the section of the tour in the Benelux countries, she sang it in German, and some of it a capella, then after Andre brought in the full repertoire behind her, she then went into a beautiful counter harmony, the original was the German Entry in Eurovision in 1982, it's not an official release yet, so there's 2 audience captures on TH-cam, after the first short, the second part has to be selected and played to get the second half of the song, and despite the lower quality of audience capture, it's a worthwhile listen, simply because she comes across so clearly.
Ein Bisschen Frieden a song in german, she starts it with a cheeky smile and a raised finger for quiet, and then a capella for the first verse.

You said it all, and I can't add more to that, so I will close with my normal sign off,
Emma's foundation can be found at gastrostars.nl
I appeal to everyone reading this channel, subscribers or just readers, if at all possible, please join me in making a (regular) donation to Emma's foundation, to help the work of supporting the sufferers of this illness, and researching this rare and awful disease.
The team that is running the foundation includes a surgeon with significant experience of treating patients with this disease, and she can no longer work as a surgeon, as she too has gastroparesis, and in her case, a change in her condition means she can no longer work as a surgeon, so her focus now is on the work of the foundation, and it is their hope that with more attention being paid to the disease, better treatments, or even possibly a cure may be found, and that could mean that people like Emma will no longer be tied to the equivalent of a boat anchor for 22 hours a day.
For Emma, to be free to be able to perform for longer periods would be a wonderful result, the fulfillment of another of her dreams, and that would be so good to see happen.

Good to see you reacting to her complete Voice Kids journey. I love watching her progression in the 10 weeks, her ability but just as amazing her character.
She looked like a tiny 9/10 years old girl in her first audition, but the voice is already evident. She started a little apprehensive in her second song singing together with other competitors, but her competitiveness is clear; she wants to win. After that, she was totally in her element. Total confidence in how she started the 4th song "Lovely Day" & already working the camera like a pro by the 6th song "Kelly Clarkson's A Moment Like This". Someone commented that she looked really comfortable in the last song. Very interesting to hear in your comments things I haven't thought of.

Emma's couch during the competition was the judge Ali B, the one she sang with around the bench.

Emma is living proof: body size does not matter when you are a vocalist. She has a well developed voice and what we hear is not a girl that strains her voice. No, it sounds totally natural. What the reason is why she sings the same song twice? No clue. But maybe it has to do with Emma's health: she often is very weak and has to go in hospital regularly for treatment so that can be the reason here. She really is a warrior in her own right! I follow a few female vocalists and for me three of them are always at the top of the list: Emma Kok (16 now), Angelina Jordan (18 now) and Lucy Thomas (20 now). And why? Well I think they are equally talented (or must I say "gifted"), they are singing different genres which is always nice, they are such good "story tellers" and, last but not least, they are such good live-performers. They are not trying to be someone else and they do not use all kind of tricks to sound well.

ok, so I feel that you simply don't get it : The link I'm talking about leads to the video about Emma, not one of mine....so If you love that much this singer, you should be interested. Then, If you "can"t see it !!!!!" it's just because I had to do so for copyright matters....otherwise the video is simply blocked by youtube. Hope you'd learn something here. anyway, thanks for passing by. take care.
