Bro. The outsiders have no idea how well Brent has done steering and righting the ship. He’s an amazing leader of men, and we are absolutely thrilled and proud to call him HBC
Well put. Sooner fan here born and raised in Norman attended OU and couldn’t have said it better myself.
Let ‘em doubt, I’ll take the 75-1 odds to Vegas 😂
@@Ogkine ☝Im already locked in with Vegas! 8 wins? Schdeule schmedule...We're beating at least 8 teams on that schedule. There are far worse bets out there.
Kansas has improved each year under Leopold. Most O.U fans are glad to have BV in BV. We trust He is a good man and a great coach
All that’s fine. He hasnt done anything to warrant an extension.
Good move? No... GREAT move!
As a Sooners fan, I love this! BV has made this program so much stronger, and not because of winning. This program has purpose for being great men other than just great football players. The defense of old is coming back, and I couldn’t be happier.
I agree, I honestly cant think of better coach. It is more than winning, its also about building quality humans.
All the arrests and dwi's lately are an example of being great men?
I think Venables will remain with OU for the rest of his career, and thats a great thing.
I pray you are right. Brent is great for the football players and everyone connected to the program. If I had a son of football playing age I would love for him to play for Brent. I saw my first OU game in person in 1959 and hope to see Brent my last game on this earth.
We love BV. His recruiting is the best it’s been in years. Including TEBOW’s recruiting, So much better. So glad we have BV. WE GOT OUR GUY!!!!!!
Brent Venables is our guy. He will be welcome as long as he wants to stay. Boomer Sooner!
Only two SEC coaches defeated a CFP qualifier last year.
Brent Venables is one of them and he defeated the other one.
Pay that man his money.
you mean big12
@@BSPotter nope. Brent Venables and Steve Sarkisian are officially coaches in the SEC as of July 1, 2024.
@@drwinstonOboogi you are refering to games they played last season. what was their standing in the SEC then?
@@BSPotter Huh? What standings?
Venables was 1-0 vs CFP qualifiers
Sarkisian was 1-1 vs CFP qualifiers
All other SEC coaches were a combined 0-11 vs CFP qualifiers
@@BSPotterbro can u read?
I’m a UT fan.
BV is a quality coach. What you need is consistency.
Too many good coaches are terminated.
Guys- here is some inside information. Yes, we desperately want to beat OU. But every UT fan I know wants OU to do well in the SEC.
Most UT fans hate Aggie 365, but respect OU and hate them for only a week.
Im only speaking for the guys I know, obviously not the entire fanbase.
I'm am Oklahoma fan and I actually want to see Texas do well in the Southeast conference myself I actually root for Texas unless they are playing Oklahoma I even root for Texas when they are playing okie pokie State because I hate okie pokie state
But when it comes to softball I root for whoever is playing against Texas because I hate Mike White somebody needs to give him a fresh tampon
OU doesn’t like that fake blue blood either 😂
I think it says a lot who was the only school to vote no on OU and Tx moving into the SEC. A&M couldn’t beat either team in the big 12 so you know they big mad we’re back in the same league.
@@houseontherock8345 Oklahoma is a fake blue blood they haven't won a national championship in a quarter of a century but yet people still calls them a blue blood the only thing that Oklahoma is a blue blood at is women's gymnastics and softball the women's teams carries that school
This is about the same conversation I've had with every UT fan. It's a rivalry of competition but we don't hate each other. Also fuck A&M lol
I like it as an OU fan
Huge W. People saying this a bad deal are afraid of Oklahoma, they know a dynasty is being built. Defense is back in Oklahoma and the offense is about to light it up. Oh and not mention, recruiting is better than it’s been in nearly 20 years.
Diehard Sooner fan. Love what BV is doing with the program. Deal is well-deserved.
GREAT MOVE it’s only the people who ain’t with the program or follow ou or who aren’t ou fans!! Those are the ones pushing back lol people who ain’t even fans of the team THIS WAS A GREAT MOVE BY OKLAHOMA WHEN YOU KNOW YOU GOT YOUR GUY YA KNOW 🗣🔥💯
I wish they would've went 10yrs...love BV....BOOMER
CONGRATS TO BRENT V 💯!
Great move cheaper now than later, ensures recruits a bit too that he aint going no where
Great news. BOOMER. Keep the disrespect coming sec. We love it. The chip on the shoulder is huge. Rude awakening this year for all the doubters.
Six years is a good term, and a 1-1.5 million pay raise is relatively modest in today's world of contracts. That's a manageable buyout for those super negative nancies our there, which wouldn't happen for at least 3 years if all went very south. For those who want more of BV, I think it's as far out as you go at this time, but not for reasons other than financial vision and good ol' conventional wisdom. Six years tells BV that we have all the belief in him. 97% of the fans are very happy with this contract, and we all know the 3% exists no matter the topic at hand.
Go Sooners!
Why are we even debating this? Must be a really slow news day.
People don't get it. Most are upset by year 1 and they are stoooooopid for being so. Saban wet 7-5 Stoops 7-5 Carroll 6-6... 10-3 with Lebby costing 2 of those losses.
No he did not cost them two losses it was a special teams and a sorry-ass defense and Brent venables piss poor clock management but tell me who's going to be the scapegoat this season when they wind up not even bowl eligible
@@jdwilmothI’d bookmark this comment if I could. Bowl eligible? We certainly will be. Sit back and watch the Sooners go 😎
@@jdwilmoth
🤡 Bookmarked your name and address for date with crow meat this December. Don’t delete!
@@squishybuffalo who cares ? Bowl games are pretty much meaningless nowadays unless you are in the playoffs nobody wants to see teams play that has half of their players opting out because they want to pout black little girls like the Florida State players opted out because they didn't make it to the playoffs unless you're in the playoffs these bowl games are just consolation prizes where you can get you a participation trophy
BV has recruited better than anyone in the last decade. What he’s building on defense is what he did at Clemson and a top 10 offense. He’s worth every penny. Sark has a losing record to OU and nobody is bitching about his contract.
As a sooner fan, i like it!
as a huge OU fan i love the move. 100% believe in BV
Getting a lot of pushback? OU fans love it
I'm in Oklahoma fan and I don't love it
@@jdwilmothI’m an OU fan and alum. I LOVE IT!
100% behind BV! No question he is the answer
This is a great move! People that have not paid close attention to that program saying it’s a bad deal are just wrong!
I was literally thinking about this a couple months ago. Understanding that OU could have a better team this year but a worse record. I think it's great for recruiting sakes. The 1st 2years in the SEC are going to be tough (with that schedule). Hopefully years 3&4 they'll get an TX schedule.
Loyalty matters in Oklahoma, to all Oklahomans for that matter. It's in our blood and in our history.... We are all we have and all we need.
Sooner born, Sooner bred, when I die, I'll be Sooner dead!
Boomer!
Doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll translate to wins (I believe it will) but there’s no doubt Brent has been amazing for the program so far.
You can really tell who are the casuals and who actually know football. If you think OU only wins 6, 7, or 8 games then you are a casual.
I'm not a casual I'm a season ticket holder and I have been for 20 years and I think they will go 6 and 6 and tell me since they don't have Jeff Lebby anymore who's going to be the scapegoat when that happens
@@jdwilmoththats exactly what a casual would say. Casual.
@jdwilmoth Okay, you're a season ticket holder and a serious Oklahoma fan for sure, I believe you, but it sounds like maybe you're not as high on our coach as most of us. If you could pick us a better coach, who'd it be? Just curious 🤔.
BV is doing big things with the program. Hell, just look at what he did at Clemson, and he’s only improved since coming back. The first year back was him playing with the hand he was dealt, and ended up with 50/50 record. I firmly believe the Sooners are going to surprise a lot of people in the SEC.
anyone notice that Clemson went down the shitter when BV left?
And was nothing before he arrived...
I noticed Kansas State decline when BV left in '99
I noticed Oklahoma decline when BV left in '12
I noticed Clemson decline when BV left in '22
We have are coach!!!!BOOMER
"Our" Coach
It’s half a million. This ain’t no damn Jimbo fisher deal.
He deserves that 6 year contract I am good with it...
Just watch BV for a minute. I have not seen another coach with the Energy this man has. Clemson is 6th in NFL players from College. And nearly 70% of those players are defensive players that played for BV.
Fair, objective. Nicely done.
JD is my favorite Josh Pate with hair.
You're spot on. This isn't a knee jerk reaction. This is Joe Castiglione (OU AD) saying, "We won't have a knee jerk reaction if we don't have the season we want this year." The biggest threat I see to OU is taking a sledgehammer to the foundation he built before he can build anything on it. I think this is a great move for the future, and like you said, we have to judge this contract on what Venables does in the next few years not just next year. (Although, surprising everyone and making a playoff run this year would be great for making the punchline culture people punchlines themselves.)
After stinky linky left Oklahoma, I said I hope they go and get Brent Venables. When it happened I was outside and yelled HELL YES!!
This is called ...Pay the Man
I don't know if it's a good move or not we will see
Of course. The most important thing is BV is at OU and Muleshoe out here in LA is at USC!
He's all right he's all in and we are all in with him... He needs and deserves at least a 3 to 5 year extension to his contract..... And possibly an extra what is 100 bonus or so for beating what's the top 25 teams for each one of them...
As a longhorn fan... THIS WAS A GREAT DEAL!!
He’s done a lot better than Lincoln Riley did there.
Love it, Lets go!
I think this is a great deal. As a devoted Sooner fan I firmly believe that BV is what the team needs. OU got a bad deal with Riley being here and from that we were seen as a hard team that went SOFT. In my opinion BV is what OU needed to help restore the team to being what it was during the Wilkinson Switzer and Stoops eras. I'm excited for this season.
I was one OU FAN who when Brent Venables left for Clemson did NOT like it. And when Brent came back....BOOMER SOONER GLAD......Great EXTENDED Football move. My opinion.
You may be one fan with that opinion but not the only fan that believes in BV. I was sick for weeks when he left for Clemson but his loyalty and the job he did there speaks for itself. I was sick the day Muleshoe left but rejoiced the day BV was named HBC.
@@ifoundtexas52 AMEN!
The SEC is extremely concerned about OU! They have stacked the deck against OU!
It's only gonna make all those Sooner triumphs that much sweeter!
What deck would that be?
@@jansonroberts2616 the schedule, obviously. Not only does Oklahoma play teams with the highest total of win projections in the conference, but most of OU's opponents have a bye week or play a team like Mercer or Kent State the week before.
@@drwinstonOboogi Meh, get use to it. This is the SEC. Your schedule isn’t any worse than Florida’s or Georgia’s. Relax a little and enjoy this new season. The OU Sooners may surprise you a little. Go Dawgs!
@@jansonroberts2616 Oh I'm stoked about this schedule! Agree that Florida & UGA also have monster schedules. Good luck to your Dawgs this season, especially on Oct 19. Boomer Sooner!
What the fans understand, that those outside the program are ignorant of, is the massive cultural and standard elevation Brent has accomplished its why this extension happened.
2 things.
1. I've not seen a program left in as bad a spot. (Unless you count Colorado but the INCOMING coach made it that bad. In the OU thing the exiting coach lead the demise.)
BV has already had better recruiting class averages and higher top classes than the previous 2 staffs. So on that alone. It's the right move.
2. Even if it's not the world busting job I think it is. It's still solid and the stability is what Bob Stoops said maid his career. So it's a good move.
The pros list make the cons list look weak. So... they can afford to pay a high-school kid millions to transfer out... they can afford the buyout. So it really hardly matters. Banking on it going bad and being right would be a worse move than giving the current team a decent chance. This is just a good move.
Oklahoma is running a flea flicker 80 yard td pass, first play into the SEC. We are fixing to win a few NC coming into the SEC
They say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
@@7sosavage434 I hope someday you'll join us, and celebrate OU being number one
Brent may earn the raise or even more. Cant judge him this early. But, confusing why so many universities give big raises after 2 years. My theory is it is agreed to if the coach performs well.
Before he leaves and goes somewhere else
Im starting to not like ON3 all they do is trash oklahoma and boost everyone else.
JD must be having baylor flash backs.
Kinda agree but JD was actually defending OU here so not really sure what you’re talking about.
If you call this article a trash job, bring them on. I thought it to be very honest, sincere and very logical. Boomer
Absofuckinglutely a good move. Who would they replace him with? I'll wait
BV is a perfect fit for OU!
It’s the right move and I love it
Is this type of a raise common? It reminds me of a cost of living raise. Not a huge deal and I’m surprised they go to the trouble of a new contract for such a small raise.
It is common and It's just for optics.
Yeah they also beat yalls favorite team the shorthorns yet no one wants to talk about that. SARK LOST TO KANSAS TWO YEARS AGO MY GOD YALL.
You lost to their back up last year? Whats your point again? You keep Texas' name in your mouth.....SMH
He also got mashed 49-0 to our favorite team and lost to Kansas and back up QB.
@@Duzypriicee who just whooped the shorthorns "best" team since 09? Oh yeah that's right OU and beating us 49-0 against a gutted OU team with no QB is not a flex. 17 > 7 OU has won last 25 years, 14 > 4 OU has way more conf titles, more nattys, more hiesmans I can keep going shut up. Kansass back up can start at another school if he wanted too and let me say this again SARK LOST TO KANSAS TWO YEARS AGO, you want to bring up the past 49-0 and us losing to Kansas and let me remind you SARK lost to Kansas too and oh yeah we beat Texas last year you bozo.

Not a good move…. a GREAT move.
It’s a 2-year extension and a $400k raise. Everyone chill lol
Cost of Living raise?
If it wasn't for Oklahoma people wouldn't have shit to complain about.....
What do you Think? Does it Bother You or your Audience? Fair Question.
Loving it Boomer Sooners Baby
Brent Venables has 3 natties and is a proven defensive coach. He is exactly what we need to compete in the SEC and for a natty! Boomer!
The question is why not wait till after 3 years till you are sure. I think also athletic director wants to do now before he kas difficult seasons ahead in SEC
yawn
Because giving a guy a 500k raise is nothing to us. That's couch cushion money.
No bowl game wins and one of the worst seasons in 25 years. I can’t see why
ESPN named Oklahoma the most prestigious college football program of all time. Sec knows OU fears no one. All the Kentucky and ole miss fans thinking we fear them because there in the sec are in for a rude awakening.
#facts
Who cares just play the game while it last
🙆🏻♀️🤷♀️
If he doesn’t win in year 2 of the SEC, they will get rid of him. We don’t know what the buy out clause of his contract is.
Sure buddy👍
To be more direct, I would say a 9-3 win loss record would be respectable in year 2. Their schedule is one of the toughest in the conference this year and next.
Get real. Nobody fires the prodigal son 2 years after winning 10 games. It's not like he is going to just go winless or something. But whatever his buyout is, OU can afford it, because the OU AD isn't a complete idiot.
Boomer! Brent is our guy. He’s turned around a complete dumpster fire of the roster that was left from the previous staff.
I can’t wait for OU to prove the naysayers wrong this year!
Weird timing
It's really not. The '23 - '24 season just concluded. This is the same time every year when all of the Athletic Department's contracts are reviewed.
@@drwinstonOboogi no it isn't; contracts are almost always renewed right after the team's season concludes; that was January.
@@Mark-zx2bq Oh gee willikers! I guess you need to inform Joe Castiglione he's been doing it wrong all these years. 😂😂
Bad move, by the Bob Stoops legacy football program. The Stoops syndrome continues at OU. Brent Venables is 16-10 and nearly lost 5 of his last 7 games in 2023. I.E. Reference BYU and UCF game film. All those defensive busts too? 16 - 10 record for that kind of money, huh? You would think he won a bowl game or something? Would they give him the extension if he was 14 and 12? Sure! Brent just got a big payday when they let him go in a couple of years when he wins 7-8 games a season or less. The better question is who will be the next "Friend of Bob" to get the OU HC job?
Only checks the box scores kinda reject right here☝
Thank gawd for Bob Stoops. Good thing many idiots on TH-cam are to young to know OU before Stoops.
Every coach but one fails, every year. We aren't here for bowl game wins. What kind of pathetic focus is that? There are nattys, and there are not nattys, and only one team gets the prize.
BOOMER!!!
