The problem with Kai Havertz is that he is a second striker, a position that basically doesn’t exist in modern football anymore.
(Btw Timo Werner is also a second striker and has the exact same issues).
For him to work you need to play in a 442 or a variation of it like a 4231 with Havertz being the number 10.
I would say the player most similar to Havertz is Thomas Muller. Both are Raumdeuters and love to move around a number 9 (Havertz did this at Leverkusen around Volland)

Do I think Havertz will ever be a good Premier league player? Absolutely not. This guys confidence was murdered and he most likely won’t recover from that and never be his former self.
The premier league and rival fans overall have a real issue with how they welcome new players in their league. Imagine being a young boy around 20yo, moving to a new country and everyday you see on Instagram or twitter how you get absolutely murdered in memes and fail compilations and people calling you shit.
Sancho, Anthony, Havertz, Nunez, the hate those guy received and how they got trolled would break any of us if we were in their boots.

You can’t compare Havertz to muller. Muller moves way more, is way more intelligent, actually can control a ball and takes risks. Havertz literally just back passes and is afraid of dribbling.

Adam is correct at 7:30 - Partey is being played at RB because Zinchenko is injured, and Arsenal's system requires one of the LB/RB's to shift into midfield. As soon as Zinchenko is fit to start you'll see Partey back starting in midfield, and Havertz most likely benched

The problem with Kai Havertz is that Arsenal are trying so hard to fit him in, that it is to the detriment of so many other players. Havertz starting meant that Partey had to go RB, which then meant that White had to go CB, which then meant that Gabriel didn't even play. Just accept that you got hustled by Chelsea and move on.

    • @siiir1322

I read that so many times and this is just so stupid and wrong.
Ever thought about the fact that Timber tore his ACL and Tomiyasu received a red card and that maybe that is the reason why Partey played RB (which he also played a few times last season).
Arteta could have just played Gabriel and White as a RB if he wanted to, but there are Saudi rumors around Gabriel and that is probably the reason why Arteta didn’t want to play him while he isn’t focused on the project.

Managers don't do what fans ask for because they aren't even listening to the fans, they block all that out. The Havertz signing was simply to replace Xhaka, but even though Harvertz has more potential than Xhaka he fundamentally lacks Xhaka's mental strength. Harvertz is a data signing, not a performance signing. He will fail if Artera doesn't get the psychological aspect of managing him right. Personally, I believe Havertz just doesn't have a big club mentality. Compare him to Rice and you'll see that instantly.

I'm not a Havertz fan, but Arteta said himself in a recent post match interview "He gets into good positions and never receives the ball. He should have scored many times already".
The Different Knock channel did a video on this way before this interview, recognising the same thing. "Havertz keeps running into good spaces, but our players don't see it or think it's too risky to give him the ball so another pass is made".
He scored 2 in pre-season and was instrumental in making it difficult for city to play out from the back in the community shield.
So in essence, his off the ball movement is pretty good, once the team recognises this the goals should come.
Well that remains to be seen. At the end of the day I just want to see results and right now he's not producing any, but this does give me hope going forward.

Lampard murdered his confidence by playing him out of position, then the fans started to call him shit and now he will never be the same player.
They think it’s a coincidence that all these big money moves like Havertz, Mudryk, Anthony, Sancho, Pepe, Di Maria and so on failed in England.
They never think about the fact that it doesn’t help players having the entire English media and rival fans at your throat after not performing well after 3 games.

It amazes me how people in this country (and dumb coaches) still don't how to play Havertz, if you want the best out of Havertz you have to see how he played for Leverkusen because that is where he played his best football and had his break out season that got him a move to the prem..He's a 10 or a deep line attacking midfielder who plays best in counter attack, he likes the ball played in front of him and he likes to receive midfield in transition when the oppositions play breaks down and then he breaks forward and links up with the players at the top end of the pitch to create opportunities..He is not a striker or false 9 like he was played at Chelsea and never will be, and he will not work in a possession based team who are camped in the oppositions half playing give and go's, 1-2's or triangles with his back to goal like Arsenal do he's ineffective in that style of play...Unfortunately for Arsenal Arteta will have to get far more creative with Havertz to get the best out of him and that would be at the expense of how they like to play...Bad signing for your team Mikel !

He had a good game against City, was alright against Forest, did very well defensively against Palace, and was poor against Fulham. Baring in mind we haven’t played well in any of the last three games I’m not really panicking(yet) and I’ll still give him a chance. Could notice quite a few fans getting on his back on the weekend so hopefully that doesn’t get to him. #1 thing he needs is support.

It's not the price tag alone that is the issue. It's what we all saw him do (or not do) for Chelsea that's the problem. So far, the defence for Havertz' time at Chelsea has been that he played in the wrong position. But, unless he was played in defence, his position on the pitch didn't make him miss easy chances that he should have buried, give the ball away or play the ball backwards more often than not, fail to make good runs into advantageous positions like he did at Leverkusen, make his demeanor come across like he doesn't care. These are mannerisms that we all saw in Ozil (in parts), Willian (more often that not) and Auba (once his head dropped) and they all ended horribly. Therefore, why Arteta has chosen to go down this road again is beyond me. When you pay any amount for a player that you know has a tendency to disappear in games, you're asking for trouble. As a comparsion, and I hate to say it. Just look at what Maddison has done in 3 games for them lot over the road. For £40m they got a player that is more creative, a better passer/crosser, better on the ball, better at reading the game, better defensively/at tracking back and more agressive/determined on the pitch than Havertz. The only thing Havertz is better than Maddison at is heading, and the fact that he is a couple years younger. What makes it even worse is that we got Trossard on the bench who has already shown he can link up very well with our front guys. So, the only way us fans will ease up on Shy Havertz (as he is known) is when he shows us something that we haven't already seen of him in the Prem. He's only 24, so I hope he finds that Leverkusen form real quick because 9 times out of 10 you don't win titles/cups with passengers when going up against City.

the obvious problem is Zinchenko being injured, because Arteta wants to make his left fulback invert. When he cant play a leftback invert and choose to make the right sided one invert, It makes Ben White a rightsided defender i a back threee rather than a central defeender. And because there is no1 else on the left fullback who can invert, he needs to play Partey on the right, because he can "kinda" invert and play like the 2nd holding midfielder (but he needs to be the rightsided holding midfielder, therefore rightback instead of leftback). All this makes Arsenals progression wierd cuz players "natural" position changes in the build-up,I dont think its time to bring a verdict on Havertz when being played in a system which isnt being deployed right yet.

Don’t know how many comments about personal opinions you read… but my person opinion is go back to last season Ben white as you said and I agree was one of the best right backs in the league and in the system he basically dropped into centre back anyway and went on little runs to support Saka as his cuts inside which I haven’t seen much of apart from that goal at forest then saliba and Gabriel have to start together one of the best partnerships in the in league id even go as far as probably Europe… alright Zinchenko has been injured but last season we was all saying ‘no defender inverts as well as him he’s unique!’ He can cover the left and shift rice over to the right which makes more sense as Saka and Ødergard with rice, white and saliba behind them can go and do what they did best last season they’d be safe to take on their men and if they lose it on make a mistake those players behind them are more than capable between them to get that ball back and start again then you got Gabriel zinchenko behind who ever is the attacking midfielder it Havertz isn’t dropped and Martinelli as zinchenko complemented Martinelli last season with the passes to him in behind and safe passes back because zinchenko is so composed and comfortable which gives them freedom, also it’s not like Martinelli is lazy he gets back to help same as Saka does… obviously I believe veira has to start against Man U after his 20 minute cameo he was brilliant at the weekend also had a solid pre season in my eyes also maybe that’ll wake Havertz up a bit sat on the bench because at the moment its looking like he can just have a mediocre game and he knows he playing next week so arteta needs to be ruthless and drop him for a big game like United to show that you either perform 100% or your minutes are limited and Nketiah HAS to start as he’s come on last season when Jesus has been injured and kept our season going he didn’t lose us the league last season that’s for sure and he’s played 3 games scored 2 should’ve had one at palace but he got us that penalty and trossard doesn’t stay up top his gets in the way on the attacking midfielders almost stepped on Havertz toes for 50 minutes dropping deep so I’ll give Havertz a bit of slack there because we moan at Havertz but Ødergard didn’t do much either but mainly because trossard was dropping to deep and they couldn’t get balls into someone who’s not in the position to finish them but yeah last season was perfect but i understand the new system not a fan of it at the moment but I believe it can work if you use the right players for it and if it doesn’t then last seasons tactics it is if it isn’t broke don’t fix it but yeah that back line with rice covering the right and zinchenko coming into midfield not only has more defensive stability but the composure and control in the middle will be so high quality don’t get me wrong partey is an extremely good player but this just isn’t working and if we keep forcing it just have to drop him for a bit there’s plenty of games we can use him in like the champions league and FA cups because if we don’t fix this then I’m afraid Man City will be miles ahead and it may not be 2nd as Liverpool, Tottenham and man u or even Chelsea will be knocking we’ll be fighting for champions league football as we will drop 10/15 points off it just making it work for next few weeks… forest was poor, palace was poor and this weekend was just unacceptable so we need to figure something out this weekend could be a disaster at home

When we've got our current system of 3-2-2-3 working with Jesus back, I think we'll find we're simply better of with Havertz in the team. When Jesus was out Xhaka, who played a similar role, was decent but not great. With Jesus Xhaka's number sky rocketed and it's worth seeing the same thing will happen with Havertz as with Xhaka.
Also, this would be our ideal lineup(imo)
    Martinelli-Jesus-Saka
    Havertz-Odegaard
    Zinchenko-Rice/Partey
    Gabriel-Saliba-White
    Ramsdale
In that side with have many players capable of playing the ball, but other than the front three we would be very static and Havertz would simply improve us by moving around between the lines and creating space for the rest, he wouldn't get credit, but he would make us better when the rest works.
Also, people saying he was the reason for Partey moving to rb are wrong, we were doing that last season with Xhaka and it's nothing to do with Havertz.
