  • The sitar parts are taken from my collaboration on ‪@MichaelSokil‬ channel. Check out his Norwegian Wood cover that includes me and‪@perrystanleyNumber9‬ • Norwegian Wood - The B...
    Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) is the second track on my favorite Beatles album Rubber Soul (1965). It was written by John Lennon and is one of the first western pop songs to include a Sitar. George learned this Indian instrument from Ravi Shankar
    I'm playing a real Hiren Roy Travel Sitar, that I bought at the Music Inn in New York City. I'm still a beginner, but am learning quickly. The Sitar is being mic'd with a Neumann TLM-103. George played a cheap sitar on the original song, and later bought a real Hiren Roy by the time of Revolver in 1966
    The song is in the key of E. Most sitars are tuned to C or D, so I had to tune the sitar up a few semitones more than the instrument would probably prefer. I broke a few strings in the process. Because the song is in E, both acoustic guitars have a capo on the 2nd fret
    John Lennon played his Gibson J160e acoustic guitar, while George Harrison played a Fraums Hootenanny 12-string acoustic. I'm using my 1956 Gibson J45, which is a similar Gibson Jumbo acoustic. For the 12-string I'm using my 1967 Gibson B-25-12, previously owned by Tommy Shaw of Styx!
    My Gear:
    1956 Gibson J-45
    1967 Gibson B-25-12
    Hiren Roy Travel Sitar
    Neumann TLM-103

    Didn't know there was a 12-string guitar in this song! The fact you're able to make such high-quality videos so quickly shows a lot of patience and love for music!

    This to me is one of the hardest beatles songs to get even close to sounding right and you got it nearly perfect! All those acoustic instruments leave no room for error, you have to get the touch just right or that lennon/harrison magic is gone.

  • @reginaldperiwinkle

    This is great. I've never seen anyone play this sitar part before. I always thought that George slid between notes -- I didn't realize that he got that sound with bends.

    • @sampopkin
      @sampopkin  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      yeah because a sitar has a scalloped fretboard and big frets, it's easier to bend than slide
