Quando ascolto com'è interpretata quest'aria e comparo con i soprano attuali....(non faccio nomi) c'è una differenza stellare: Avrebbero tanto ma tanto da imparare! Non dimenticherò mai la prima volta che la vidi negli anni 50, giovanissima, ed io pure, in Sonnambula a Trieste e poi ancora a Venezia con Kraus, poi alla Scala in Rigoletto, ecc. ecc. RIP Renata!
The Metropolitan Opera's production of Verdi's Macbeth by Peter Hall from this 80's era was the definitive production of Verdi's Macbeth of all time. I was extremely fortunate to have seen it in Atlanta on their annual tour in May 1983.
I agree....except she took on Norma too late. I wish she would have tried that 10 years earlier...but there was Sutherland and she was beyond amazing in that role
She's very good here, if a little uneven. But in all fairness, she had been singing a very long time by 1980. As her resources departed, she relied a little too heavily on "artistry," IMO. But it was a wonderful production.
Renata Scotto est une grande artiste mais bien trop vériste à mes yeux. D'autre part dans cet aria on devrait voir une Lady Macbeth qui s'éteint, qui est à bout de force. Or ici on entend toujours une Lady Macbeth rugissante et pleine de détermination, ce qui est un contre-sens. Maria Callas et la tradition italienne ont commis longtemps ce contre-sens que Shirley Verrett enfin évitera !
