"What is the language of digital" - this is a great statement. Rather than resisting it or trying to make it like film, why not find out what it is on its own. I also found interesting his statement about digital having something organic about it too.

Wow. This video, in combination with the last one with the backstory, is easily one of my favorites from this channel. There's something unique in the atmosphere, something that you can't create artificially.

This and your other artist series videos are exactly what photography on TH-cam needed. There's so much practical and technical advice out there, which is great, but talks about ideas from established artists in the medium are few and far between. Keep up the good work.

Absolutely stunning ! Being able to see the "backstage" of an exhibition, when the artist discuss his own work, is simply great. Thank you for those videos mr Forbes, they are a great way to learn more and more about our loved photography (and sorry for my somewhat poor english)

Every medium of expression has something of it's own. Let's not forget how young digital imaging really is compared to the much more mature science of film emulsions. The possibilities with digital imaging is virtually endless, and there are as many ways of expressing your voice through it aswell. Great video

man when he was talking about how there has to be an "organic" nature to digital i just leaned back in my chair, gasped, and let out a long "fuuuuuuck" ... he gets it sooo much. and man, the bit about the 135 on a Leica, feeling "distant" but being put so close, so incredibly true ... is it kinda meant to be an oxymoron like the "vertical landscape" ??? ... and the Teuffel guitar he's playing, very sweet too...

What a great look into the mind and thought-process of a living legend of photography, Ted. Extremely intelligent, Ralph Gibson views the world from a different angle than the rest of us mortals, and you can see it here. And what a great analogy about drugs and art. As a musician and photographer myself, I can relate to wanting more and more to find satisfaction.

What we see here, is a decisive moment, the key part in preparing an exhibition: Choosing the images, grouping them in themes (or other variants), and discovering how the relationships between neighboring images emphasizes a mood, a story, and even generates new meanings.
I see Ralph is also a musician. Many people say that musicians make great photographers and it’s mostly true. Sometimes we forget that some photographers who aren’t musicians hear music while taking their pictures.
Have you seen any photo exhibits were the music playing was carefully chosen to play along the works exhibited (outside the Web world, of course)?
I can think of hundreds of reasons why I would want to present my works in such a manner.
Thank you Ted, Ralph and Thierry for this brief insight in the world of selecting and curating one’s work. This also applies when creating portfolios although there are a few differences in the spatial relation of a room versus displaying them in a printed book.

By far my fav video you made in that series. Love the 3:05 moment when they are both there chopped in half and so is the statue on the table-desk. He is very inspirational. Digital vs film? Who cares? Do what you feel, if it's real. Could it be the organic component of digital... is the photographer. (does that makes sense?) #photoforlife

The thinking and feeling of this man. I adore it. But i hate to brake it so harsh: No organic thing in digital, true is when you are exploring the dept of your spirit visually for so long and you have The Gift you can communicate in any medium. Digital is very efficient in this type of thing. But when you want the added value, the organic feeling demands organic medium. The Film. Imagine all this beautiful abstract work done properly. Even when we succeed in making organic sensors and process it with quantum math without the loss of captured data, digital we be fake. My personal view is that abstract photography demands analog capture and analog printing. Digital gives you illusion of perfection, but really humans are no perfect and emotions cannot be without depth.

With digital, you can imagine a photon traveling all the way from the sun, bouncing off your subject, and energizing your sensor's photodiodes. It's still all about light.
