I just want to say I was playing with a group of people for about an hour or so when all the weapons were random. We got Glowflies like 5 times and we won everytime because the people knew what to do and it felt so good.
@@youssefbencheikh8637 learn strategy for the run killing modes. If you don’t already do it right then do it. I need to get strategy down still but I went all the way to evp 250 yesterday. So getting to 400 doesn’t seem as far off anymore. Just learning some tricks can help improve a butt ton
In freelance prefreshional+3 at the moment. Unless we have a roller I usually just give up. Especially on high tide. Literally impossible 99 percent of the time in freelance.
@@Ihazfunkitty when you die much times as I have can you freaking blame me. Literally the most recent random rotation was the first glow flies wave I ever beat in Splatoon 3. It's solely dependent on team competence and/or the weapon rotations(and the last one had a bamboozler so no thanks👍)
@@groudongamer3178 it’s very difficult to get teammates who know what they’re doing until executive. I started winning a lot more once I hit that, but then I got like 100 DC errors in a row and went back down to +2 :/
I wish they'd let us practice the special waves in a safe environment too, because if you don't know the meta strategy it's very hard to learn or come up with it in the middle of a shift
Really good overview, just two things I would add. 1. When you are using a roller, you mention the whole "moving slowly" trick but you should also note that rollers regenerate ink when you hold one out and you stand still. As such, switching between moving slowly and standing still can allow you to hold the roller out much longer. 2. Your overview of the downsides of wall camping is one of the best I've seen however there is one thing I would make note of which is related to the player being removed from combat. You might think having one player wall camping reduces the teams DPS output by to 25% but it could be even worse than that. Glowfly is the only wave in the game where you weapon matters more than your skill. There are many weapons that are very poorly suited for the wave and just cannot kill fast enough. If you have a weapon rotation with multiple poorly suited weapons and you are wall climbing with the only well suited one, you can be reducing your teams damage by as much as 40~50%. Knowing which weapons can/cannot afford to not be shooting is also essential to using applying wall camping properly.
PSA for sockeye station: avoid splatting Goldies while someone’s wall clinging on the big wall. Golden eggs clip through the wall and land towards the shoreline making them unobtainable
A quick tip for dealing with goldies, since they have much more health rollers won't stop them completely and may splat the player, heavy damagers such as blasters, gal, chargers and any weapon that can't really hold the charge should focus on shooting and chipping away the goldies before they can overrun the team and protect the chums.
It's situations like the wall overuse that makes me wish we had Marooner's Bay from the previous game as there were no inkable walls near the basket to fall back to and the team had to group up together to survive glowfly waves.
Something I’ve noticed about Glowflies, is that the success of the team has a lot to do with which weapons are in current rotation. If there’s a lot with a ton of end lag or recharge times (chargers, sloshers, etc). Then I’ve noticed that the team can end up getting overrun a lot quicker. But if there’s a lot of quicker weapons that are relatively fast and ink-efficient (shooters, splatanas, etc). Then it will be a lot easier to deal with the rush of Chum.
It's my opinion that wall clinging is functionally useless on Fission Plant once you are at profresh. The only wall high enough (one that barely meets the threshold) leaves the team in the worst possible spot on that map with multiple paths towards where they'll be grouped and depositing the eggs in a narrow corridor close to the waters edge. I wish you would have mentioned that when talking about the wall cling strategy. It did Not escape my notice that the only footage you showed when talking about that strategy was from Spawning Grounds and Sockeye Station.
Good guide Haz, hopefully people will see this and the general freelance experience will be better, from dying everytime, to surviving, to finally beating this dreaded wave.
The only tip that i feel i can give is that you can put eggs in the basket while shooting at the same time. Example here 11:50 the dude playing wasting ink on launching the egg up close to supposedly get away, but stays anyway to fight, except with less ink in the tank because he threw the egg out of instinct and runs out of it. When he could just hold the shoot button and casually strafe to the basket to deposite said egg, and still fighting at the same time and with most of the ink tank left.
Thank you so much for this! Hopefully this will reduce the number of people on freelance immediately running to wall cling at the beginning of the wave, or going to the top of the tower on Sockeye... People hate glowflies, but I feel that once they get a nicely done glowflies wave, the feeling of satisfaction makes it really fun. I hope you could do a guide on Grillers too, so more people are aware of which weapons are best to take care of the small fries, and the optimal positions and routes to lead the Grillers.
But that's no fun, waiting until we get a rotation with dynamo roller. And it isn't good everywhere. It's nearly perfect for Rush and Seek, while it's bad for Mothership or the day waves.
This has been needed desperately needed. I’ve been dreading glowflies be more often than unless get lucky and get teamed up with people who know what do. I just have unfortunate luck of watching my team panic and wipe out. 😢
I found a trick to wall clinging. Literally all you have to do is hold squid surge and slowly move upwards every second so then you don't fall down all the way. I know that when people play After Alterna, the part where you have to cling to a rectangular block is hard because they don't use squid surge. Squid surge is actually underrated. It can be used to stay on walls.
The work you put into this shows. Concise, but extremely informative. Great stuff! Hopefully this takes off and as many people as possible see it, as glowflies really are a nightmare with randoms due to the lack of communication options, differing ideas, or simple cluelessness. Having a "bible" of sorts will hopefully help make things way more consistent.

OOOOH okay so THAT'S how you do it. I'm currently stuck in overachiever, and every time I get a glowfly round I would just feel dread. Literally I got my first win on that round yesterday, and I have no idea how. Maybe I actually had a competent team for once while I went through the initial panic. Glowflies is similar to grillers where it’s a team effort to even come close to clearing it. I’d say hydroplant is easiest map for glowflies due to the two platforms you can jump between with no bridge, which makes wall clinging not the most effective strat. Rollers do excel at this, but don’t underestimate brella or tenta brella, since those also splat the chums in one hit too, and most blaters can eliminate multiple at one (I know grizzco blaster is an exception, but the fire rate more than makes up for it). Best specials are wave breaker and booyah bomb if you ask me, both being able to revive teammates and splat the chums easily. Panic is the biggest cause of failure, so in case of night, always prepare for the worst
If you ever make a updated guide i would recommend giving a list if all of the good wall climb slots in every map and every good defend spot per map. I also feel adding maps from Splatoon 2 will help in future proofing a small amount Like in sockeye station yes the defend spot is the basket But the climb is under the metal floor, though in my opinion a good spot is the wall that reaches the floor in 1 go since it's a easy lure trap For spawning ground people just need to remember that bombs exist since shooting down can be a pain for some weapons
I’m so used to having Glowflies that it’s hard for to actually panic now 😭All I see are not chums that are dead set to eat me alive, they are just targets. What bugs me about wall clinging when we already have a roller is the placement people do it, not considering the amount of time it takes to bring the egg to the basket. The chances of Glowflies’ target switching to you before you hit the ground is always high. It doesn’t help that the areas people do it are typically narrow areas like Spawning and Gone Fission.
I just feel like we need a couple more phrases other than booyah and this way because its hard to communicate with randoms esp because glowflies NEEDS team coordination
Knowing your weapon role is very important. Rollers, brushes, and short ranged shooters: kill the nearby chums chargers, high ranged shooters, and splatlings: kill the far away Goldies mid ranged weapons: help out the team, and especially the short ranged weapons.

The awkwardness at the start of a Rush wave when half the team goes to one point on the map and the other half goes somewhere else, and both yell "This way". Ah, how I loathe Freelance.
Watched this because glowflies is a nightmare on Salmon Run still in solo queue for me lol. People have gotten better at not dying but now the struggle is getting eggs in the basket lmao
Right now as we speak, I got timed out on Rush because someone on our team decided to do the wall thing despite me spamming "This Way" to the ground near the basket. So frustrating!
While I would agree that wallclinging is pretty bad for your damage output, and efficient egg collection, I'm going to have to hard disagree with you lumping in the strat where you jump back and forth on the left side of fission. Most weapons have enough time to get some damage in between jumps(All weapons can throw splatbombs, even if they cant), and when you're doing this strat, it means goldies will almost always be popped right next to the basket, meaning less ink wasted throwing eggs, and less time wasted swimming too them
A formed group of randoms at lower ranks fail at shooting efficiently. I noticed the enemies sneak by, and then it changes targets, and you get surrounded by them from all angles instead of a single line. I'm not sure how to create a breather during this time period.. especially if the flies are at the top.. if you wall cling, they will just drop from above and get you. This is what I need help with.. recognizing a failed situation and getting back control quickly before teammates OR I get wiped. Standing your ground only works when they're in a single line.. but if you jump away early, you endanger your teammates.
Sadly this wave is a team effort and alone you can't do everything - it is going to take time until the overall playerbase gets used to it and knows what to do - until then best you can do is show them the way!
...I may or may not have managed to go from Profreshional +1 to Overacheiver last night by failing two goldfly waves and a griller wave. If only there was always a roller in rotation for goldflies... Wouldn't fix my skill issue against grillers though lmao
I feel like as people are getting more experienced this wave is becoming doable. But still, if the rush wave doesn’t appear on wave 3 then I find it can be a death sentence even if you clear it. It is a wave that really demands using specials if things go bad. I have had several games where we cleared the rush wave but had no more specials left and failed wave 3 because of it.
That's part of the reason why I dislike the wallcling reliant strategies, I feel like they often put the eggs in hard to reach places where you have to use specials to get the eggs. I've had waves where no one had to use any specials on Spawning Grounds and on Hydroplant and these were waves where nobody wallclinged except in situations where it's actually useful.
Ive come up with a strategy of my own that needs some luck. Step 1: get a brella of any type. Step 2:stay in one place and shield from the chums and leave the goldies to your co workers. (Best one for this is undercover brella)
I get a little annoyed every time I see someone Wall Clinging. And now I know that it even wastes time! I'm on Eggecutive level. I just know that once a teammate start clinging, other teammates have to waste time getting the eggs from below and possibly die from the wave. It's the number one reason I lose my Glowfly waves, aside from weapons not being optimal sometimes.
I wish more people knew where to stand on Sockeye Station everyone always goes over to the wall which is way less efficient than by the basket, I try using "This way" but it never works
Majority of the time my team loses from the lack of firepower. They just cling to walls and don't collect eggs. This was a rare occurrence that would happen in Splatoon 2...
Glowflies are a shift killer 99% of the time. They should be relegated to Wave 3 only due to how unfairly difficult they are, especially for random Freelance teams. That way you aren't getting shafted out of your progress. During the most recent random rotation, I got hit by Glowflies on Wave 1 and the entire team were given Splatlings, which was an instant failure.
@@yousquiddingme Not during a Glowfly wave. I've had people use their specials and still get destroyed, and I hate having to use them during the first Wave, because they may be necessary during other Waves if that 1% chance of success actually happens. As for the random rotation I mentioned earlier, we got two Hydras and two Heavys, along with players who spread out across the map.
@@ZeonXGR I also used to hate needing to pop specials early on in a round, but honestly when the game makes you need them, you gotta use them. I'd rather get to wave 2 or 3 and still have a chance of forgiving hordes I can brute-force without specials, than immediately lose 20 points because I thought "well maybe there's something worse than Glowflies coming later." Protip: There's Nothing Worse Than Glowflies

In my case I've suffered more losses than victories after succeeding in Glowflies, because the entire team needed specials and used them all during the first Wave. I literally see no benefit to Glowflies in their current state and like Salmon Run as a whole, they have too many issues. They're just not fun or engaging and need severe changes before I'll ever be okay with them, even Cohozuna is easier and he has his own share of needed changes. If a special type of Wave is harder than a King Salmonid then something is clearly wrong.
@@yousquiddingme There lies the problem; Glowflies requires intense focus and team coordination, something a pre-made team is guaranteed to achieve, but not so for a Freelance team. Not everyone can join a pre-made team due to how life works, so Freelance is all they have. Hell, even pre-made teams often fail on Glowflies regardless of skill because the Wave is overtuned. Combine the overtuned Glowflies with random weapon rotations and players who don't have the required proficiency, and the issues are woefully apparent. Speaking of proficiency, I know how to use the weapons and I also know the strategies for each map, but none of that matters if my Freelance team doesn't. I'm usually the guy who has to save everyone's asses, unless I make a genuine mistake because I'm not a perfect human being. I rarely get to play with friends because life, so I'm stuck with Freelance. This is why I don't find it fun, as of right now Glowflies is a big middle finger to every party involved but moreso Freelance players. Nerfing them a bit will still mean they're difficult, but much more doable, and they won't be homogenised because they still work differently to other Waves. Sorry for the wall of text, there is a lot to say that can't easily be condensed.
I've been trying to figure that out too! I don't think the egg throw specifically is a problem but something has definitely changed that made glow flies from a thrilling but perfectly manageable event to becoming the one event. Like I'm not really sold on the chums actually being weaker, maybe they've got a specific damage modifier against the carbon roller but otherwise it really feels like you can't hold them back as easily as you used to. It also feels like you run out of ink sooner in Splatoon 3, even when you're not doing the egg throw.

Where are you standing? I'm guessing you are doing the strat where the person who is targeted wallclings until they aren't targeted any more? The Hydroplant spot behind and to the left and the Spawning Grounds platform directly behind the basket are widely considered the best places to stand. I think the perma wallclinging strat should be abandoned by the time you get to EVP if you are freelancing, and even in lower ranks the non-perma wallclinging strat works much better. When the platform gets overwhelmed on Spawning Grounds, or when your team needs to collect eggs near the basket or revive, the targeted person can either jump to the platform to the left or wallcling to redirect the salmonids and give the team some more room to work. But you don't do this for too long, you want to be killing goldies near the basket. On Hydroplant, in that situation where the platform gets overwhelmed, you jump back and forth between the platform in front of it. Which is why it is good to keep the wall painted.
@Batabii Well aware. It's honestly the bane of my existence on maps where the alternatives are significantly better. I don't know any glowfly strategy for those maps other than the one I described, and the wallclinging ones, which is why I'm wondering what you are doing on those 2 maps?
They just sent me glowflies with a fucking range blaster on a fucking big run WITH NOBODY WHO KNEW HOW TO FIGHT, INCLUDING ME. There is literally just no tutorial, its a super high strategy mode with no choice involved. I kinda hate it honestly, it would be cool if we could choose to do it.

If you ever make a updated guide i would recommend giving a list if all of the good wall climb slots in every map and every good defend spot per map.
I also feel adding maps from Splatoon 2 will help in future proofing a small amount
Like in sockeye station yes the defend spot is the basket
But the climb is under the metal floor, though in my opinion a good spot is the wall that reaches the floor in 1 go since it's a easy lure trap
For spawning ground people just need to remember that bombs exist since shooting down can be a pain for some weapons

I’m so used to having Glowflies that it’s hard for to actually panic now 😭All I see are not chums that are dead set to eat me alive, they are just targets.
What bugs me about wall clinging when we already have a roller is the placement people do it, not considering the amount of time it takes to bring the egg to the basket. The chances of Glowflies’ target switching to you before you hit the ground is always high. It doesn’t help that the areas people do it are typically narrow areas like Spawning and Gone Fission.
I just feel like we need a couple more phrases other than booyah and this way because its hard to communicate with randoms esp because glowflies NEEDS team coordination
Left on the d-pad could be “LEAD THE BOSS TO THE BASKET” and right d-pad should say “GET THE FUCK OFF THE SHORLINE”
Knowing your weapon role is very important.
Rollers, brushes, and short ranged shooters: kill the nearby chums
chargers, high ranged shooters, and splatlings: kill the far away Goldies
mid ranged weapons: help out the team, and especially the short ranged weapons.
When glowflies happen I usually tell myself it doesn’t matter how many eggs we get as long as we get the quota and survive

A wall cling tip I have is squid surge throw a splat bomb below you they get back on the wall while falling

The awkwardness at the start of a Rush wave when half the team goes to one point on the map and the other half goes somewhere else, and both yell "This way". Ah, how I loathe Freelance.
Watched this because glowflies is a nightmare on Salmon Run still in solo queue for me lol. People have gotten better at not dying but now the struggle is getting eggs in the basket lmao
Right now as we speak, I got timed out on Rush because someone on our team decided to do the wall thing despite me spamming "This Way" to the ground near the basket. So frustrating!
I'm starting to block any wall clingers that only wall cling. It's the same if one guy was dead out of the four.
While I would agree that wallclinging is pretty bad for your damage output, and efficient egg collection, I'm going to have to hard disagree with you lumping in the strat where you jump back and forth on the left side of fission. Most weapons have enough time to get some damage in between jumps(All weapons can throw splatbombs, even if they cant), and when you're doing this strat, it means goldies will almost always be popped right next to the basket, meaning less ink wasted throwing eggs, and less time wasted swimming too them
A formed group of randoms at lower ranks fail at shooting efficiently. I noticed the enemies sneak by, and then it changes targets, and you get surrounded by them from all angles instead of a single line. I'm not sure how to create a breather during this time period.. especially if the flies are at the top.. if you wall cling, they will just drop from above and get you. This is what I need help with.. recognizing a failed situation and getting back control quickly before teammates OR I get wiped. Standing your ground only works when they're in a single line.. but if you jump away early, you endanger your teammates.
Sadly this wave is a team effort and alone you can't do everything - it is going to take time until the overall playerbase gets used to it and knows what to do - until then best you can do is show them the way!

I think about 5 seconds before glowflies switch, one or two glowflies start circling around the next victim so they aren’t caught off guard.

...I may or may not have managed to go from Profreshional +1 to Overacheiver last night by failing two goldfly waves and a griller wave.
If only there was always a roller in rotation for goldflies... Wouldn't fix my skill issue against grillers though lmao
I feel like as people are getting more experienced this wave is becoming doable.
But still, if the rush wave doesn’t appear on wave 3 then I find it can be a death sentence even if you clear it.
It is a wave that really demands using specials if things go bad. I have had several games where we cleared the rush wave but had no more specials left and failed wave 3 because of it.
I've never gotten glowflies outside of wave 1...
That's part of the reason why I dislike the wallcling reliant strategies, I feel like they often put the eggs in hard to reach places where you have to use specials to get the eggs. I've had waves where no one had to use any specials on Spawning Grounds and on Hydroplant and these were waves where nobody wallclinged except in situations where it's actually useful.
Ive come up with a strategy of my own that needs some luck.
Step 1: get a brella of any type.
Step 2:stay in one place and shield from the chums and leave the goldies to your co workers. (Best one for this is undercover brella)

I get a little annoyed every time I see someone Wall Clinging. And now I know that it even wastes time!
I'm on Eggecutive level.
I just know that once a teammate start clinging, other teammates have to waste time getting the eggs from below and possibly die from the wave.
It's the number one reason I lose my Glowfly waves, aside from weapons not being optimal sometimes.

Majority of the time my team loses from the lack of firepower. They just cling to walls and don't collect eggs. This was a rare occurrence that would happen in Splatoon 2...
I feel like glowflies always happened when I had a blaster, and we always lost those rounds.
When the chum pile up they eventually start World War Z movie stacking to get you if you’re wall-hugging
There are some walls that salmons won’t get you easily while the rest shoots them
Glowflies are a shift killer 99% of the time. They should be relegated to Wave 3 only due to how unfairly difficult they are, especially for random Freelance teams. That way you aren't getting shafted out of your progress.
During the most recent random rotation, I got hit by Glowflies on Wave 1 and the entire team were given Splatlings, which was an instant failure.
@@yousquiddingme Not during a Glowfly wave. I've had people use their specials and still get destroyed, and I hate having to use them during the first Wave, because they may be necessary during other Waves if that 1% chance of success actually happens.
As for the random rotation I mentioned earlier, we got two Hydras and two Heavys, along with players who spread out across the map.
@@ZeonXGR I also used to hate needing to pop specials early on in a round, but honestly when the game makes you need them, you gotta use them. I'd rather get to wave 2 or 3 and still have a chance of forgiving hordes I can brute-force without specials, than immediately lose 20 points because I thought "well maybe there's something worse than Glowflies coming later." Protip: There's Nothing Worse Than Glowflies
@@PerfectDarkly If it works for you, then it works for you. In my case I've suffered more losses than victories after succeeding in Glowflies, because the entire team needed specials and used them all during the first Wave.
I literally see no benefit to Glowflies in their current state and like Salmon Run as a whole, they have too many issues. They're just not fun or engaging and need severe changes before I'll ever be okay with them, even Cohozuna is easier and he has his own share of needed changes. If a special type of Wave is harder than a King Salmonid then something is clearly wrong.
@@yousquiddingme There lies the problem; Glowflies requires intense focus and team coordination, something a pre-made team is guaranteed to achieve, but not so for a Freelance team. Not everyone can join a pre-made team due to how life works, so Freelance is all they have. Hell, even pre-made teams often fail on Glowflies regardless of skill because the Wave is overtuned. Combine the overtuned Glowflies with random weapon rotations and players who don't have the required proficiency, and the issues are woefully apparent.
Speaking of proficiency, I know how to use the weapons and I also know the strategies for each map, but none of that matters if my Freelance team doesn't. I'm usually the guy who has to save everyone's asses, unless I make a genuine mistake because I'm not a perfect human being. I rarely get to play with friends because life, so I'm stuck with Freelance. This is why I don't find it fun, as of right now Glowflies is a big middle finger to every party involved but moreso Freelance players. Nerfing them a bit will still mean they're difficult, but much more doable, and they won't be homogenised because they still work differently to other Waves.

I've been trying to figure that out too! I don't think the egg throw specifically is a problem but something has definitely changed that made glow flies from a thrilling but perfectly manageable event to becoming the one event.
Like I'm not really sold on the chums actually being weaker, maybe they've got a specific damage modifier against the carbon roller but otherwise it really feels like you can't hold them back as easily as you used to.
It also feels like you run out of ink sooner in Splatoon 3, even when you're not doing the egg throw.

Where are you standing? I'm guessing you are doing the strat where the person who is targeted wallclings until they aren't targeted any more?
The Hydroplant spot behind and to the left and the Spawning Grounds platform directly behind the basket are widely considered the best places to stand. I think the perma wallclinging strat should be abandoned by the time you get to EVP if you are freelancing, and even in lower ranks the non-perma wallclinging strat works much better.
When the platform gets overwhelmed on Spawning Grounds, or when your team needs to collect eggs near the basket or revive, the targeted person can either jump to the platform to the left or wallcling to redirect the salmonids and give the team some more room to work. But you don't do this for too long, you want to be killing goldies near the basket.
On Hydroplant, in that situation where the platform gets overwhelmed, you jump back and forth between the platform in front of it. Which is why it is good to keep the wall painted.

They just sent me glowflies with a fucking range blaster on a fucking big run WITH NOBODY WHO KNEW HOW TO FIGHT, INCLUDING ME. There is literally just no tutorial, its a super high strategy mode with no choice involved. I kinda hate it honestly, it would be cool if we could choose to do it.
