    Terry
Getting ready for my second match. Shooting Outer Limits for the first time (this club shoots 6 stage so Outer Limits and 5 to Go are shot every other month). Thank you very much for the foot work tips.

Welcome to the sport and my channel. As a new shooter I highly recommend subscribing to my channel because 90% of my videos are of Steel Challenge. I did 8 videos stage by stage. Look for my Roundabout video. Many competitors tell me that it helps. I believe they can help you too on your Steel Challenge journey. LOL! Feel free to ask questions. I enjoy helping new shooters to steel challenge get better. Im a slow responder but I will respond to all. Good luck in your second match, Terry

Nerer shot the Outer Limites until yesterday. I did most everything wrong! I should have stayed in bed. Your explanation and demonstration is spot on. Practice, Practice, ----Practice! Thanks for your assistance. "Super Senior" !

Hi Mark 7. Thanks for watching and your kind comments. As with anything you want to be good at, practice is the key. Watch the video for the details but master the basics first. Keep the gun up and don't look down when moving box to box. Most importantly, don't forget to have fun! Terry

Terry, when you were beginning SC, when live fire training, did you shoot mostly full stages, or break it up into first shot, mini stage 1, mini stage 2-Stop? Need help moving up classification.

Great question AZVIDS! When I first started shooting Steel Challenge I had only been shooting seriously for less than 2 months. I bought my first rimfire pistol the day before my first ever match. It was a Ruger Mark III 22/45 Lite, that I eventually upgraded with all available Volquartsen parts. I shot over a 500+ second match! I wish I was kidding but my brand new rimfire pistol and brand new untuned magazines jammed over and over again all day long. I didn't find helpful detailed videos like Two Gun Terry videos to learn from. I apologize for the shameless plug but it's also very true. That's why i'm thrilled whenever I get new subscribers because I feel like I'm helping introduce new competitors to the shooting sports. Especially Steel Challenge.
To answer your question, knowing what I know now, I highly recommend mastering your first shot when reacting to the timer buzzer. Don't be shy to practice the first shot over and over again until it becomes natural and muscle memory to bring your sights on target somewhere around 4-7 tenths of a second every time. First shot times vary depending on the stage. The first shot on Smoke and Hope sis likely faster than the first shot on Speed Option.
That said, you must also incorporate moving to the second plate into your first shot training routine. These two things essentially go together in order to start a stage as fast as possible. You don't want to get used to taking only one shot and dropping the gun, reholstering or simply not moving on to the rest of the stage. React to the buzzer, lift your firearm either from a holster or low ready position, look at and through you sight at the same time, put your sight on the target, call your shot, squeeze the trigger, reset as you are swinging to the next target....repeat!
I also recommend going through all 5 targets every time. You don't necessarily have to fire a live round but you should be in the habit of shooting each target every time. When live firing on all targets be sure to always practice make up shots. Look at the faster shooters. Their make up shots are extremely fast. You're going to miss from time to time when shooting fast so practicing make up shots makes a lot of sense.
I could have given up after shooting a literal 500+ my first match. I hung in their and today many of my friends are competitive shooters.
      Enjoy,
      Terry

Terry, you mention “tuning your mage” what exactly do you mean by this? I have been shooting my Ruger 22/45 light and had TK base plates on the mags. With this set up the only ammo it likes is Ely Contact. With CCI MM I get fail to feed numerous times.times I decided to remove all the TK base pads and put the Ruger pads back on. I’ve got a match in 2 days and unfortunately did not get a chance to try this configuration out yet so hopefully all goes well. So again, how do you tune your mags?
