Hell yea, especially the stock cabs have to be tweaked and third party ir's does the trick too. A lot of people say the helix is crap because they want to plug in and sound like their favorite artist, without any work from their part, it don't work that way, I don't even use the presets, accept to get a base tone then tweak from there, once you figure this thing out you begin to appreciate what a giant leap line 6 has made over their other modelers.
I think the reason he mentioned this is because the PODHD500x doesn't have one. You can't turn the power on and off on this thing, you have to plug and unplug every time. I own one, and I always thought it was kind of dumb not to have a power switch.
Man those tones sound pretty beefy. I am very tempted. I saw Mr. Browne's (Monuments) video and he said he likes it better than both the Kemper and Axe-FX because its more raw and aggressive. Decisions......
Wow. Excellent video. I’m not a big metal player but this was one of the best video gear presentations I’ve seen. Your approach to building patches was ingenious and one that I will be using. Your explanation of dual cab usage was clear and understandable. Looking forward to watching your other videos!
Hi, Ola. Just in the the case you drop off over here... Thank you for the presets! They're really good sounding to me. The Uber and Lead are my favs. Cheers from Spain!
Great overview and demonstration of the Helix's metal capability! I am getting ready to pull the trigger on getting one myself to replace my HD500. I was looking at some of the others, but since I have a Variax JTV59 (Love It), it makes the most sense to stick with the Line6 line. Line6 seems to have nailed the interface on this one. The HD500 was a bit painful to create a preset directly on the unit and I did everything on the MAC with HDEdit. Thanks and Like your Videos. \m/ New Sub! \m/
I love my helix but suck at making patches. These are some pretty good sounding patches but the noise gate is all jacked up and I have to disable it for all or it clips all over. Plus, the built in noise gate is all you need if you want one, to save some DSP. Also kind of goofy to have a specific lead patch vs building it in to another patch (or all patches) but I guess that's just for demo.
As a total guitar noob I have to say that I've bought the right device (Helix) ;D. This is very clear after watching your great video. Thank you very much - I have learned a lot. My guess is that you would be a very good teacher.
stupid musicians killer the whole variax system is pretty cool. They are the best in wireless guitar systems, while keeping it affordable. The dt25 amp is pretty awesome. And so on
All guitar and bass tracks on our new single are recorded with the Line 6 Helix LT and we'll surely use it in the future too. Btw, it's great in live situations as well! Listen and tell us what you think about the tones: th-cam.com/video/8iKQcwhPRFs/w-d-xo.html

I got one but cant seem to get it to work properly as an audio interface. The guitars I record are too quiet, like -36db at peak. How do I get the USB/digital signal louder?
Hey Ola! You mentioned that the quality of the overall product depends to 90% of the IR's. What IR's do you like, and where can I get some top notch IR's? Cheers!
Sounds awesome! Just run a real amp into it, and then use a third party IRs, plug a few of your favorite pedals into the FX loop. Then loan it to your friends and never get it back. Well worth $2000!
I have never really been much of a Line 6 lover but this didn't seem too bad but I think I would invest in a Kemper over this. Thanks for the video and demo .
At these point. All these products are good enough. Just choose either of them which suit for your situation. The tone is not everything. They are simply good enough.
Hi Ola, I've been a huge fan since the beginning of your channel. What/how do you recommend when people ask you "how do i get started with digital solutions" i.e. Kemper, axeFX, Helix etc. I have no experience with these, but I am really interested in them. It just feels a bit intimidating switching from classic tube amps to these kind of simulators. Thanks!
You should have compared them in a mix as well. The Helix definitely has more high end fizz which makes it seem like it sounds worse, but it is less noticeable in a mix.
hey Ola! i just wanted to ask. Are you more partial to rack mounted preamps/amps or the pedal board variant. Kind of like the axe fx and the axe 8, or the helix rack and helix pedal board for example. Or.. do you just grab what ever is most convenient/ comfortable to use?
Hello Ola was just wondering if you could do a 4 cable method with the helix , I'm currently running a Randall Rm 100 head with matching cabinet and really love the distortion I have with the modules
Hey Ola great vid. Unsure how long you have this unit for but I was thinking is there any chance you can make an impulse comparison clip with the stock vs a custom one? You mentioned that the cab sound influence of around 90% can make or break a good tone. It would be interesting to see a comparison where everything in the signal chain is exactly the same apart from the impulse. This is moreso to showcase the importance of impulse which some people still don't understand or appreciate the importance. Also looking forward to your Helix vs Ax8 vid!
You can fix this yourself, with global eq, and third party ir's, I thought that too after spending $1800 bucks on a rack and controller, thinking I'd send it back and get the axe fx but after many you tube vids from some competent gear heads, I found it to be just what the dr ordered and decided to keep it that was a year and 3 firmware updates ago, haven't been happier with my purchase.
@Tessmage Tessera Ha ha, people has forgotten what a real amp sounds like, hum and hiss and even fizz which people constantly complain about in modellers is just basic ingredients of a real amp.
Nice video man! Have you ever played an Atomic Amplifire-12? I think it's a relatively new product. All the comparisons you do I figure you have probably stumbled on to one of those by now.
This might be a really dumb question but the Helix doesn't sound like the Spider V does it? I got that amp (Spider V 240 watt combo) and kept it for 2 weeks and refunded it. I just couldn't get the sound I wanted. It definitely had SOME good things on it but it just didn't get the rhythm metal tones I wanted. I'm just torn between the Helix, Axe FX lll, and the Kemper. Any help would be appreciated..
When I heard about the Helix I was afraid it was going to be really amazing and I would have to order one. I am glad I was wrong. It still has that same digital noise that the Pod line has had forever.
Im only 20 seconds into the video but i have a question, would I be able to hook the helix pedalboard right to a cab and use it lmost like a head and a pedalboard through my cab?
I have a question: I'm thinking about selling my Mesa Mark V 25 and getting this Helix and a Duncan Powerstage. I would be running through my Mesa 2x12 Recto cab. When creating presets, would it be best to turn off cab sims and IRs, while already playing through a real cab?
I've spent thousands on fenders, marshall, and the odd assortment of lesser known tube amps and vintage, gear through out the years, I sold them all, kept the helix worth every penny and with every firmware update it keeps getting better.
@@raphaelrodriguez1856 I have a Helix and a Headrush 112 on a 2 foot pole stand. Best tone I’ve ever heard, honestly. It’s funny seeing these old Ola videos and how he used to be “so serious” lol

i was literally just thinking the same thing lol his presence on camera has changed alot over the years lol
It doesn't suit him
No it's definitely not "Ola" enough lol when we know now more than then how much of a personality he has. Lol

My experience with Helix: using high cut on the cab sims is the key to great tone :)
It is mate :)

how do you usually set the high-cut?
It has a on and off button? Seriously, I´m buying this.
I think the reason he mentioned this is because the PODHD500x doesn't have one. You can't turn the power on and off on this thing, you have to plug and unplug every time. I own one, and I always thought it was kind of dumb not to have a power switch.

Great video as usual. Can't wait for the Fractal Audio comparison. I'm itchin' to drop some coin either one of those.
Due for an update... new amps.. new tones.. many updates since this.
Thanks Ola you rule

This sounds so good. Oh my god.

Can you please do Line 6 HD100 MKII ???
I just want to know what you think of it man.

The Helix just has this static-hiss on all it's high gain stuff that makes it very inorganic sounding. If they fix that issue, this would be awesome.

Thanks for doing this vid man. Would you consider using this on an album or release?
Ola can you make these tones avalible to download again please.
hey ola, can you check out the Line 6 Firehawk 1500?
Several of the presets in the demo are cutting out badly. Not certain if it's the hard-gate aspect.
P33NI5.. hehehe
How do u get this exact tone in the intro with the hx stomp
So what would you choose - POD HD Pro or this Helix?
Now that's the way you make a review. Awesome use of the green screen :)!

I want to get a good preamp. Is this an option or should I get the Kemper? :)
kemper, or engl e570 if you want to stay analog, but still have a shitton of flexibility.
