    I appreciate that you have the sound recording on trumpet videos well done. From all the other trumpet videos I have watched, that seems to not be an easy thing. Cheers!

      Which mute did you like the best?

    Well, i have a clear winner which is the upsound mute. This is because this mute does not only work as a practice mute, but also it helps you to improve your sound quality and your intonation thanks to thant kind of inner filter it's got. Greetings from Spain!!

    Hi Phil. I enjoyed this video. I have a song I'm playing at school and we have to use plunger mutes. I was wondering if you could explain how to use one?

    Hard to tell, but: Yamaha, Upmute, Stomvi, Tom. And soundquality-wise: Tom, Stomvi, Yamaha, Upmute

    1 Silent Brass STX with headphone for me the best real trumpetsound.
    2. Tom Crown.
    Others not so much difference at all.

    Yamaha is the one I like the best. But I can’t find it on Amazon. Please tell me the model number or a more specific name than just Yamaha trumpet practice mute. Thanks!

      I don't know if the answer comes too late but I think he's referring to the Yamaha silent brass. As far as I know that is more than an ordinary mute because you are able to connect it up and hear the sound loud in your headphones hence it is pretty expensive. May be mistaken though. I am just not aware of another Yamaha mute.

    I used the sshhmute and the weight and resistance was very nice.
    I wonder how this would compared to these.
    Also Denis Wick practice mute: Horrible! I gave it away

    Phill can you write your tips? Which is the quietest it's easy :). But intonation and back pressure are more difficult. I think you are too good :) and you can control intonation, even if mute has drawbacks in this matter. You could put such a list, the best at the beginning, the worst at the end. Inonation and back pressure. The back pressure is particularly controversial. If you read the reviews for Yamacha and Tome Crovne on Amoazon. Opinions are very divergent, some describe significant back pressure, some write that it is undetectable. I think it is related to the instrument and experience of the musician.

    How is the back pressure on the upmute overall? and how does it compare vs the silent brass?

    • @PhillONeillTrumpet
      @PhillONeillTrumpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Miguel, there is more back pressure than without any mute, however I find it more helpful than other practice mutes ive played. The silent brass is quieter but has a lot of back pressure.
      The main difference for me is when I go back to playing without a mute after using the silent brass it feels strange and unnatural. After using the update it feels much more natural right away.

      @@PhillONeillTrumpet how does the upmute compare to the tom crown in terms of back pressure?

    • @PhillONeillTrumpet
      @PhillONeillTrumpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The upmute has less back pressure than the Tom crown. I have done a comparison video between the different practice mutes. I find most practice mutes cause my chops to feel weird when I go back to playing without the mute. I find the Upmute doesn’t give me this issue. For a while I was actually practising my fundamentals with the upmute to same my hearing. I actually found it beneficial to my playing.
