Gai Jatra (Sa: Paru) is the second largest festival celebrated in Bhaktapur, after Biska Jatra. It is a jatra (procession) that lasts for eight days and seven nights, where several acts and dances are shown, where any kind of satire is simply accepted.

Gai Jatra is not only a tradition that we are following for years and years, but it is a part of our life where we show our sorrow, let others know that they are not alone. And up above all, we could see one’s generosity during the jatra. People offering food and water shows that there still is humanity and dharma in people’s hearts.
