A4 is 297 x 210 mm11.7 x 8.3 in You can use US Letter paper, or even square.. it will just be taller. Just make sure the paper you start out with is the same as the paper you use for the lid too :)
This is the cutest model. You make it look so easy...but ,alas, sometimes things are not always as they appear! I have mastered the box base itself, but the collapsing of the lid is a different story! I am determined, though! I will get this or die trying!!! Thank you for your video,,,
I know this is an older video and I have now followed you for a few years. I can usually follow your steps or just rewind and pause. Not sure what you mean about turning on annotations... if you mean directions using “closed captions,” that gives me a message they are not available. It is a beautiful box, you are now a talented, experienced Origami-on-TH-cam teacher, and it might not be a bad idea to upload a new improved version. We have to be able to see what the steps are both in connecting the ends and then folding inside . I will follow the link you’ve included in the description and hope it helps me complete the steps. Thank you for all of your hard work showing us how to fold amazing boxes!
Yes youtube used to have annotations when this video was made, they don't exist now. I just uploaded a new hexagonal box video, so maybe you can check that out 😀
I did it! I´m so proud :-) But it took me 3 days to get it right because I also could not really see how to close the bottom. Thank you very much for showing us how to make a non modular box like this, I just love it because it is so cute
The lid and the box are the same size.. The way to close it is to slightly squash the sides of the box inwards. If you want the lid to be bigger, start with a slightly smaller paper for the box.
Tucking the ends? at 5:42 I put the right side into the left side, there is a slot at the front that it goes into... the flap at the back just sits in front of the one on the left.... it is hard to explain. If you cannot get it in, it is not folded right, I have used 2 coloured paper to make it clearer, otherwise you could use glue to stick it, it would still work.
What a great design! You have to be patient with the base and lid squash but otherwise, really easy to do. Already made a couple with magazine paper, hope to get a kawaii paper to do more and more.
Agh, that base is soooo tricky! I had beginner's luck and somehow nailed the squash fold the first time, but I've tried three more times since and haven't been able to succeed ;_;... I must try again... Thanks so much for making this video -- the boxes are adorable!
The first time i did it perfectly Second not good Third n fourth yay its perfect Thanks for uploadin this video cuz i wanted to make boxes so i could put something in n give my friends n family but almost all the boxes r square or rectangle.
Hi, yes it would make a lovely gift box, I am not super great with roses, but I'll put it on the list :) I think you are the first person who has said I have shown it in an easy way...!
lol I get that a lot too when trying to teach Kazuo Haga's rose! the last part is a rotating fold which is pretty hard and very similar to this one, i spent 3 months figuring out by myself from the book I bought. i like this box! thank you.
I am Japanese & thought you maybe also Japanese when I saw the word "kawaii"! Well I loved your pretty box but it was bit too advance for me. I could not see the most crucial part as your fingers & hand were covering it. Maybe you can to another video using much bigger paper & do show what you are doing slowly? I am bit too old for those KAWAII stickers but LOVE the shape of the box, so I'll be using the real pretty Origami "Chiyogami" like a pattern for kimono the next time I try making it! How long have you been doing Origami? I learned it when I was 4 or 5 & that was pretty much last time I did it, so I only remember a few simple ones like the crane, hats, square box, wallet.... but now I love to learn more to be able to create more beautiful stuff, so I can give them to the patients @ the hospital. I'd like to cheer them up with Japanese Origami Art!
Did it with simple white paper first, cause I had nothing else in that format at hand. But after figuring out, how that multi-fold for the inside of the box works, I did it! :D Thank you for that very nice hexabox!
Omg! Thanks for this AMAZING origami tutorial! It was really handy for me to fold a hexagonal box which could be used as a gift box and the hexagonal box design was AWESOME as well!! Thank you so much😃😊
After minutes of persuading those squash folds finally decided to give in. I got rather sad box, with crushed spirit. :) Great tutorial though, I quite liked it. :)
The boxes at the beginning? They are a random assortment of thicker paper, some card.. the craft store is shutting down ;_; It was on sale... If you go to any larger craft store, they have big plastic shelves with lots of colours, at like $1 each... bit pricey maybe.. x
I wish you would talk because I really don't get what you did when making the hexagon part after you did the precreasing. How did you tuck the two ends???
If your having real difficulty with the push thing I found it easier to turn it upside down and pushing the paper into place while checking the folds line up on the bottom.
hello! i have a request and a question. okay questions first right? ^^ ok so, would you recommend this as a birthday box gift? and my request is, if you could make a video showing us all how to make a rose ^^ there are many videos that shows you how to make a rose but you show it ......in such an easier way
Wonderful tutorial. I got it done. This was mostly not so bad to follow except the squash fold on the base. I skipped over to the base video and it was... mostly good. You may want to include using the underside of the bottom of the box as a reference as it is much easier to line up the folds when you are squashing them when you are looking under the box rather than inside of it. But yeah. Amazing Box! Going to churn out a bunch of these and fill them with goodies to raise money for a school trip to Ecuador. I think my speed will greatly improve once I have a few of them under my belt. Hopefully I can churn out 3 per hour.
I am happy you managed to fold the box, I am still surprised that people can follow along, this tutorial is soo old, I have improved a lot since this was made :)
hey could you check out the video that I have linked in the description, it has a bit better view, but as you have to push inside the box, it is almost impossible to show without my hands getting in the way! Sorry, I hope you can complete the model :) x
I think it´s no need to cut of one section. You can put the one end two sections deep into the other. i think, this makes the box stronger Or use three parts, each one four sections and put each one two sections deep into another one. this makes a box with all six sides the same count of layers, and you can create designs.with three colors.
Hi Chrissy I love this box and the candy shaped box too. I need to make them so that the box part is 3 inches x 3 inches ... what sized paper would I use? Many thanks

was needing this info! Thank you! :)

Yes :) Any rectangular paper, or even square paper will produce a different looking but similar box.
me encanta tu video!! eres la unica persona que hace paso por paso...y sin hacer ensamblados....eso es origami de verdad!!!!♡♥
This is the single hardest origami i have ever done!
The lid and the box are the same size.. The way to close it is to slightly squash the sides of the box inwards. If you want the lid to be bigger, start with a slightly smaller paper for the box.
That is very complicated😤 JUST KIDDING!!!!!! Its wonderful🥰😍😘
Good video. I like that you pause occasionally so we can catch up
sorry I was a little goofy with the first answer, the box is really nice. the second video is helping to fold the bottom. Thank you very match.
What a great tutorial! My gift box turned out just great :) Thank you very much for sharing this with all of us :D
hi, you can use printer paper or more fancy thicker paper/thin card from craft shops. the paper size is A4 or letter paper :)
It's A4 or letter paper, you can use any size paper, the squarer the paper, the taller the box.
Tucking the ends? at 5:42 I put the right side into the left side, there is a slot at the front that it goes into... the flap at the back just sits in front of the one on the left.... it is hard to explain. Second not good
Third n fourth yay its perfect
Thanks for uploadin this video cuz i wanted to make boxes so i could put something in n give my friends n family but almost all the boxes r square or rectangle.
Its a4 or letter paper, with 2 colours. You can use any colour, 2 colours is better for tutorials... :)
Hi, yes it would make a lovely gift box, I am not super great with roses, but I'll put it on the list :)
I think you are the first person who has said I have shown it in an easy way...!
ive make it 4 years ago and again and again making it thank you for everything its not so hard.
I really love the videos they are unlike others we can understand all the steps clearly , they tend to come out beautifully
Beautiful box hexagonal! 👏 👏 👏
This looks super , cute and easy
Yeah there is a flap, if it is annoying, maybe glue it.. otherwise, it should be folded as if it was not there...
best hex box non modular tutorial ever!
im thinking of using just the base for cupcakes with baking paper
Thank you very much. I made the box in a larger size (45 x 35 cm). It is also very beautiful :)
Me encanta, cuesta un poco el detalle de la terminación de la tapa, pero lo demás muy Técnico y Claro en su forma de explicar,Gracias !!! Totales !
lol I get that a lot too when trying to teach Kazuo Haga's rose! the last part is a rotating fold which is pretty hard and very similar to this one, i spent 3 months figuring out by myself from the book I bought.

Toughest origami I did so far. Took me about 3 hours to complete but I finally finished 😇
It took me a few hours, but I made my first one :D Can't wait to make them for my friends!
Did it with simple white paper first, cause I had nothing else in that format at hand. But after figuring out, how that multi-fold for the inside of the box works, I did it! :D Thank you for that very nice hexabox!
-_- actually, no. The lid and the box will be considered two different models.
The model is by Tomoko Fuse, in her book "origami one piece'.
Pretty, but for the top can you leave the flower shape instead of making it into a hexagon?
Genial!! lo hace ver fácil; tratare de hacerlo, ¡Feliz Navidad!
wow this is soooooo cute
Hi, I love your origami videos. It is so creative. You are very talented in art, which makes me so jealous.
I agree
What an amazing looking gift box
I just made it along with your tutorial. Quite tricky but interesting. Thank you!
when you connect the ends, is there supposed to be a flap sticking out inside the hexagon??
An answer would be gladly appreciated!!
thankyou, please check out the second video which is linked in the description for a bit better view on the folding parts. :)
Thanks! I did one for my father because of Father's Day :) He will love it!
I will have to watch a few times to get the hang of it lol ...thanks for this...
muchas gracias por el tutorial!! me encantó y también gracias por el diagrama!!! son de mucha ayuda para mi para enseñar origami en mis talleres!!
such a great work....really impressed.....keep learning nd sharing it with us...😊
It is so beautiful. The boxes are lovely!
Thanks for this video
I like origami boxes
Excuse me, I know your question wasn't for me but I would say GO FOR IT. I give a lotus flower as birthday gift and guess what? SHE LOVE IT.
Thank for your sharing. The gift box you make is so beutiful. I really like it
thank you for making the video for folding. thank u so much because I couldn't fold the papers down for the bottom part. thank u so much 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Omg! Thanks for this AMAZING origami tutorial! It was really handy for me to fold a hexagonal box which could be used as a gift box and the hexagonal box design was AWESOME as well!! Thank you so much😃😊
I've tried it and it's work..very creative paperkawai
just made it.. its very enjoyable once its done.. very complicated especially on squash folds.. thanks..
After minutes of persuading those squash folds finally decided to give in. I got rather sad box, with crushed spirit. :) Great tutorial though, I quite liked it. :)
Loved the box. A little tricky with the squash but managed to make it. Thanks
You make this so easy! Thank you.i am making one each for my parents.!! Please do not stop making them because you are very talented in origami.
What kind of paper is that? Those colors are so fantastic!!!
Really like the music 💋💋
The boxes at the beginning? They are a random assortment of thicker paper, some card.. the craft store is shutting down ;_; It was on sale... If you go to any larger craft store, they have big plastic shelves with lots of colours, at like $1 each... bit pricey maybe.. x

If I want the inside of the box & lid to be red, and the outside to be black, which side of the paper is facing up or which side is facing down?
Where do you buy those double-sided nice and smooth origami paper? I saw some similar ones on the online shops but they didn't look as nice.
Yeah they don't sell it anymore! I have been looking too. Haven't found any nearly as nice, and I'm almost out! XD
If your having real difficulty with the push thing I found it easier to turn it upside down and pushing the paper into place while checking the folds line up on the bottom.
i have learned this at first time it was so easy to learn and was really good
Thank you so much! Very clear tutorial!
hello!
i have a request and a question.
okay questions first right? ^^
ok so, would you recommend this as a birthday box gift?
and my request is, if you could make a video showing us all how to make a rose ^^ there are many videos that shows you how to make a rose but you show it ......in such an easier way
Awesome. God Bless you for sharing.

so beautiful and verry simple
But thank you paper kawaii for showing us how to make this kind of origami 😁
Preciosa, manualidad de verdad, fue todo una diversion hacerla, muchisimas gracias por subir el video, saludos que Dios te bendiga, ja neee...
Hi! I made the whole box, its not so easy but its very beautifill
you are the best i am going to try this right away !!!
you can do it with side illumination to the subject instead of a single light source from above
I think it´s no need to cut of one section.
You can put the one end two sections deep into the other.
i think, this makes the box stronger
Or use three parts, each one four sections and put each one two sections deep into another one.
this makes a box with all six sides the same count of layers, and you can create designs.with three colors.
yes you could do that! thanks ☺
tried making this box and luv it thanx for the amazing vid
I hate squash folds, but I managed to do it magically ^_^
What size paper did you start with or what are it’s proportions?
I Am Planning To. Please Check Out The Other Video I Made I Have Linked To It In the Description.
That is so cool I'm going to try this for my birthday party😝
Qué bonitas las cajas, me han encantado.
Loved how you decorated it!
No wait at last I did it!
Wow i like this ♥️
Do you know if this will work with 8.5x11 paper? That's standard where I live, and the paper size you are using is harder to find...
Joyce Breckenridge Yes it will work nicely :)
Finally I made 2 n trying to make another one.Thank u so much paper kawaii. It's such an amazing box😘😍
who people ?
the video is very nice
How do you fold the squash folds for the base???
Las dos cartulinas son de 21×29.7? En la descripción aparecen dos medidas.
Nice, but very complicated . reminds me of mathematics O_o
true !
+Zara you are right
Hi Chrissy I love this box and the candy shaped box too. I need to make them so that the box part is 3 inches x 3 inches ... what sized paper would I use? Many thanks
I love this video very much!

That is so clever!!!!!! Thank you for sharing it.
The colour paper and box is most beautiful
amazing! congrats paperkawaii !
it is so easy and cute and i love it
Hola, bueno un consejo; si pones pantalla completa y prestas mucha atención verás que si se ve como lo hace :D
