Born and raised in Arizona´s San Carlos Apache Reservation, he was introduced to skateboarding by his father, the acclaimed fine artist Douglas Miles Sr.
Doug Sr. had started painting on skateboards as a medium and given the groundswell of interest this created, he founded Apache Skateboards, a brand in which the Apache community could recognise a connection to their own culture within this relatively new form of expression.
As a marginalised and often overlooked people, Native Americans have proven incredibly resourceful in developing and nurturing new iterations of their ancient culture, and Doug Junior spent his formative skating years touring other indigenous reservations teaching Native American youngsters how they could become drawn into skate culture without losing sight of their own heritage.
Sometimes, when you can’t find space for your own chapter, you have to re-write the book.
This Skate Tales is dedicated to skateboarding visionaries:
“We are the music makers/
And we are the dreamers of dreams/
We are the movers and shakers/
Of the world forever, it seems”

Redbull needs to put the profit from this video into the skatepark for the apache and for natives in general
This series is the best absolutely love Madars please never stop this!!
Thank you! We are keeping it going for sure
This should be an ongoing series on vice or something of that sort
Skateboarding will always make it's own path into places where it's supposed to be 🔥🔥✌️
That's the truth 🔥
Couldn't agree more 👍🏻
Its so wild, because the commentary is like an everyday documentary, but homies are absolutely shredding i love it.
Four generations of Apache skateboarding generations. Much respect for the culture. Nothing beat culture and love
Crying rn. Wish my kids mom could see this. 100% Navajo, from nw New Mexico just a little ways from this Rez. She used to bomb hills barefoot in Portland before she had kids. Rest In Peace.
This was so good start to finish
as a native american tribe navajo, this is cool and inspiring thank you for this piece redbull and apache you guys keep killin it both sides, i think we can all agree we wouldnt mind more apache x redbull content
As a Mexican American born in raised in socal I love my ancestors and where I come from. All the respect to apache brand and them making something for the kids. What a beautiful culture. So proud to be from them. Amo a mi gente.

Had me tearing up…
Amazing group of people! Thanks for taking us to the reservation, Madars, and telling this great story.
Skateboarding needs to protect Madars at all costs. Such a beautiful human!
This is such a rad episode. 2 minutes in and Im fully absorbed and captivated. This is another great example on how the culture of skateboarding can be found in places you would never ever think it would be and most importantly thriving... No reason to be worried about skateboarding in this part of Arizona because these fine gentleman have cemented skate culture on the Apache Res. It's safe to say they have made it a stronghold....
I love that the Apache treat the woman in their culture with such respect, how they celebrate and elevate them. Beautiful ❤
This is awesome to see and the boards look amazing! Love the art design as well as overall brand. Native Americans truly are just very wise, awesome and kind people. Sucks how much inequality they have had to endure let alone how their land was taken. However as a first generation American it is awesome to see their culture. As a kid in San Diego we used to go on school trips to all the Native American camps and they would teach us as outsiders all about their culture which is so beautiful if you have not learned about it. Even when I moved to east coast my entire school district was named after the tribes that controlled the area many years ago. Def. gonna need to grab an Apache board or few to hang up for art and also skate. h
All the decks s are amazing. Love the JFA collabs with Doug Senior too.
I grew up in New Mexico and I remember skating competitions that Apache put on in Santa Fe and surrounding towns. Apache Skateboards really did amazing things for the community out there no matter who you were you always felt welcomed! Such a great brand and representation on real skateboarding and passion. Love it! 🔥💯💙
Get Doug on The Nine Club!
That would be epic

My beautiful people, keeping skateboarding alive ✨
Skateboarding in the dessert of off-road in Arizona and keeping that skateboarding passion to the valley of Arizona has a different 😬😳 that can be a true intelligent of many random decks and artists will be in a skate cover and magazine!
Madars has a good time, shares the love
His honesty and integrity really comes through
This was a really good watch
As a worldly skateboarder myself coming from a military background of growing up In different cultures. These trips and views and skating is amazing 🤩 🙏🏾💯

This is great, Madars is so sick 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘
Such a sick episode
This series is fascinating.
Man, if there’s one part of American history that hits me the hardest, it’s this one. These dudes should have a way nicer/ bigger park then this. Actually, they should have the access to build whatever it is that they want to build. There’s just something special to it when you do the work your selves. I will be ordering one of one heir decks for the wall as soon as this is over! 🙏🙏🙏 from Portland Ore.
Awesome content, loved it so much. It reminded me to those days I visited the black feet community in US, nicest people ever. As skateboarder and as someone who truly admires the strength of the native Americans, this was truly inspiring. Thanks so much ❤❤
Thank you for the episode. Reminds me of the days we skated anything and everything. 👊🏽🤙🏽
Awesome to see Geronimo INDIAN CHIEF in that graffiti in the water ramp damn ...very cool art! great leader! thanks redbull greetings from Mexico🙂👌🏻👍💯🇲🇽🇲🇽

Nominated for mandatory viewing in American high schools. Really good episode, big ups to red bull for doing this.
Love this so much
Super rad scene! So much soul! keep killing it!
I had heard about substance abuse and suicides being prevalent in reservations but never realized how marginalized they must feel just by being on a reservation. They don’t have traveling sports like city or suburb kids. Awesome to see how they let skateboarding in and keep kids active!
This is such an awesome video!!
8:30 that hipslide by madars was pretty dope

I always feel like modern days tribesmen are addicts by nature idk it’s crazy but I’m very glad to see skateboarding help those who discover it

Loved seeing this, I’ve travelled through this beautiful area many times but never seen that crazy ditch or met these ripping skaters. Is there any specific reason for the Sade imagery?
