Weki Meki is such an underrated group. I have to say, this song is very different compared to their previous songs. Imo it is very bold of them to do this concept. The song structure is very unconventional, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Cool really reminded me of something nct 127 would do because nct 127 is very expiremenral with their sound. Its great that Weki Meki is trying ot new things; It’ll help them grow as artists. I hope they get their first win soon. They deserve it. 😭

The "who is that?!" girl is Lucy, the giant maknae (just turned 18 in August). I think you've pointed her out in almost every Weki Meki reaction you've done. 😂 She often has a sassy lilt when she sings/raps her lines, like in "Picky Picky". Other little things I appreciate about this MV: - They made a conscious decision to limit the amount of red to keep it as popping as possible. Note the color scheme of the outfits in the giant painting set; the members are wearing colors that mostly match with the painting, with olive greens, muted oranges, some blue and black and white, and no red. The red they reserve just for the flowers on the Last Supper table, and the really standout outfits they wear that are the more feminine skirts and tops. When they do the runway strut with the mannequins, the members really pop out because they're decked out in bright reds against a pale blue and black set. - The MV is shot in really tight letterboxing, but it subtly and slowly pulls back during the bridge as they start the runway walk and Yoojung raps, which I think gives it a closer and more intimate feel by the time they get to the last chorus with the confetti and the final glamor shots. - What does Weki Meki have against cakes? That's the second one they've destroyed. - That lighting during Suyeon's second verse is really clever, like you said. I also appreciate how they turned off the front lighting right as she strikes a pose after "I just want to dance" to emphasize her silhouette. Similarly they keep the lights off during the dance part where they do the unique intentionally-relaxed looking arm swings. - I really want to know how many takes they had in that scene where Rina is constantly being poked. 😄 - Apparently Doyeon and Elly ripped their pants during all the intense dancing in the finale. They also amused themselves by having a contest to see which member could jump the highest during that part of the choreo at the end, and they went and rewound the tape after shooting just to check. (Spoiler: no one can beat Lua. Doyeon: "It's like she's going to fly off when she jumps.")

I think it was because of their debut that had polarizing feedback. As you may know, Weki Meki had high debut album sales because there was a lot of inital hype for them from PD101 / I.O.I fans. After that, their sales just kept decreasing. I think the fans didn't stick around after debut and people didn't give them a chance ever since. I honestly thought Crush or Picky Picky era would get them up a bit, but it didn't work that well. :(( I think it's similar to Pristin's situation, but Pristin was much more mismanaged.
the 'simplicity' and the continuous contrast between black, white and colors of cool's mv FITS, to the point that id say the little or not-enormous budget isn't even that much of an issue??? the producers played with constracts and angles pretty well
I can say without a doubt that between the three comebacks they had this year Cool was the strongest! I'm a casual listener but... I may stan these girls! All three songs are good in my opinion, but Cool has such a diverse and more mature sound and the music video is definitely the best they had.. Simple yet stunning. I honestly feel like this whole year for Weki Meki was a build up to Cool, like dazzle dazzle was a very light cute concept, Oopsy was a little bit more dark but still overall pretty cute, then cool was a very new, more dark concept for them
I feel like Weki Meki has finally found their sound and image with this comeback. There are so many girl groups doing teen crush now, and they seemed to get kind of overshadowed by others. I thought they were going to go with a more mature concept after Oopsy but I'm glad they still kept elements of their older songs with this release (for lack of better words, a lot of their songs have been weird but in a good way?). The combination of the concept and the song feels like something unique to them, I'd compare it to what All Night did for Astro since that's what made them stand out as a group to me.
This is my observation with Fantagio. When the youngest is near to 20 in Korean Age, they are now transforming the group to let them go to a mature concept

Apparently Fantagio resolved the issues they were having...they announced this at the same time they announced this Weki Meki comeback so I hope that now things will be more stable for them. Also hope that no matter the results from this comeback that they don't give up on Weki Meki like a lot of agencies that have ex-IOI members in their groups did (I'm looking at you Jellyfish...).
This is the first Weki Meki song I’ve really liked. I think it’s the dance beats. Even though it sounds like things I’ve heard in dance music before, I always prefer hearing vocals on top, so this will be added to my playlist

The utter awe on PD's face is basically what I felt when I first watched Cool way back when. Although I really love Weki Meki's discography, COOL is *that* song for WeMe. Interestingly, two of my favorite girl groups, CLC and WeMe, seemed to struggle to find their sound, but it makes it really satisfying when you see a comeback and think, *this* is exactly where they are supposed to be and where they shine.

Also a detail of the video that I love is how the closed borders open up at the end once the final chorus comes back. To me, this video feels like what they tried to do with Oopsy (the table scene, the minimalism, the closed borders, the styling) but done way better, and it’s so much more impactful. Love this!!

I knew you’d love it!! Literally I’ve been so close to stanning Weki Meki but wasn’t sure, but this comeback is one of the best of the year and I have no other choice! Also a detail of the video that I love is how the closed borders open up at the end once the final chorus comes back. To me, this video feels like what they tried to do with Oopsy (the table scene, the minimalism, the closed borders, the styling) but done way better, and it’s so much more impactful. Love this!!

I think the budget issue with Dazzle Dazzle and Oopsy might be because Dazzle Dazzle was included in the album that came along Oopsy. The might have split the budget to make 2 music videos for one album.
