2nacheki your headline is completely misleading and people dashed to the comment section based on your headline without listening to what this man said. Now I am Zambian, this man is an opposition leader for the party called “Socialist Party.” He is not happy with how the government has given the mines to Vedanta meanwhile giving them tax holidays. Now Zambia is quite in a predicament because the mines were closed for a while because of the legal fights between the previous government and Vedanta. Zambia heavily depends on copper exports so if mines cannot operate then the whole economy is thrown into the abyss. The current government decided to get the mines operating by giving them back to Vedanta which was almost kicked out by the previous administration. Vedanta mounted a legal battle for which the Zambian government was going to lose and pay heavily because of the manner in which they were kicked out. What this opposition leader is not happy about is how the current administration has handed back the mines and given them tax concessions and holidays. Please let’s do more research and give people the true picture. I understand most Pan-Africanist want us to get hold of our own mines and run them. Trust me it’s easier said than done. I’m not saying it’s impossible but it’s complicated. These companies are backed by the west, they’ve got cartels, they can sabotage you by not buying your minerals, people and families will suffer and wish you were not the president. So you have to toe a line between the survival of your people, staying in power and stabilizing the economy. It’s more complicated than saying it

Perhaps his vocabulary as well as his innovativeness are limited. In accordance with the concept of national comparative advantage, nation do sell, exchange their ample resources for something they need but do not have or not have abundantly, that is trading. When one gets good money for that, informed by supply and demands considerations, they may divert profits for improvements somewhere else, i.e., use that for development, further innovation, craft value added products and or services in another area of their economy. If a foreign entity comes into a country for via a direct investment, skill in deal making, commitment to national developmental priorities are factors worth focusing on to craft a beneficial transaction.

Seems a bit harsh of a title. Every country needs minerals but not every country has minerals. So what are the countries lacking minerals supposed to do? They're supposed to make a good offer for buying other countries' minerals. Isn't that what Fred M'membe is saying? Pay us fairly? I don't see the problem with that. Moreover, he mentioned Africans themselves being more involved in the industry, suggesting employment. Of course, African countries should also develop their own manufacturing, but minerals will always be needed worldwide; Africans should get a fair price.
