    Part of the entertainment value of Dean's videos is the anxiety I get watching him toss around all those small parts and then it works out at the end.

    Funny story: i was in consumer science last year and i saw a cordless Dewalt sander in the garbage, i asked my teacher why it was there, he said "i dont know! everytime i turn it on, it spins very slowly and after 15 seconds, it starts smoking." then i asked if hes tried fixing it, he said "been trying to for almost a month, and no luck" i made a bet that if i fixed it by the next school day which was around 15 hours, i could get Lunch, 😂 he told me "if you can fix that in under 15 hours, ill let you have the damn thing, that things pissed me off enough". turns out it was a bad bearing filled with sand dust, cleaned the bearing out with bearing cleaner, filled it back up with fresh grease, and got it working like new. He was pissed at me but not in a bad way, but also shocked cuz of how fast i got it fixed, which by the way i got it fixed in under an hour and a half, including diagnosis. So i got a free Dewalt cordless sander which ive been using for over a year now. And im 17 Btw 😂

      The bearing Dean replaced was the same bearing spot on that Dewalt Sander i had to clean out too, apparently even when theyre sealed, they somehow still get sand dust & grit in them. it had three bearings too.

      Nice save, I'd say that was satisfying.
      The dust is so fine it gets everywhere.

      Your story eluded to a good point, repairing something for "fun" is a lot different from repairing stuff for a living. The irony is the more proficient you are the less time it takes you to fix the item, some people fail to understand that.....
      The "funny" part of the story was the teacher not knowing what was wrong with it, that doesn't surprise me he probably went to university. cheers

    Got one of these off Ebay for less than the empty blown plastic cases sell for them as it apperntly didn't work/was underpowered figured it would be bushes so ordered them before it arrived, once the sander arrived turned out the seller didn't know about the speed controller rolled it from 1 to 6 and fully working, great sander to use as well

I’ve got a fleet of power tools and I feel that nothing is now out of my scope if it packs up on me! Thanks for taking the time to film your work and for sharing it 👌🏻🍺🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

    I had a sander that seemed to have no power at all. Of course I checked the fuse and it was ok. Next I opened it up and seeing nothing dismantled the switch to check it and spotted a black spot on one contact. Cleaned that up and had a working (albeit cheap) sander. While it was under warranty it wasn't worth the cost of sending back for repair.
    Then there's another that just wouldn't turn. I cleaned all the saw dust out of it and confirmed nothing electrical wrong. Then I spotted one bearing was stuck fast and the one on the opposite side was fine. Cleaned it out and the sander has worked perfectly since. Even though this one is a fairly cheap brand, it is better than the Makita one I bought.

    My Bosch orbital sander suddenly has begun to lose power. As soon as you put any weight on it it slows down and almost stops. The last time I used it it was fine. I am using different Velcro sanding disks though. If the sander was not getting enough ventilation would this happen or should I try what you showed here and look at the bearings?

  • @prasadvn524
    @prasadvn524 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nice repair.one small question.You moved the rear armature little inside to get a tighter fit.That is very good.however should some fibre wahers be added over that to avoid play.Youe expertise has no match

    • @deandohertygreaser
      @deandohertygreaser  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      On different machines yes. But this sander has the armature screwed down to the screwed down. So cannot back out.
      You could add them, but not needed here

      He blows compressed air and clean them on a parts washer tank when they're greasy. I think he only used air in this case. If you dont have a compressor at home you can buy compressed air cans for like 5 bucks/euros they're very handy.
