Probably financial gaining as they were chosen by somebody else to implement the plan and they knew that Mani would not suspect Jaffar Idukki and get easy access to Mani's paddy through him. Sabu and Jaffer lied at first instance that the beer they drank from Mani's paddy was given by Mani and it was identified that Sabu had brought six bottles of beer into Mani's paddy. Sabu was sitting very closer to Mani whilst they were drinking and Jaffer idukki returned to Mani to give a FINAL kiss that he never given to Mani, so he knew that Mani is going to be no more. That is why they all need to go for lie detection and it is not putting people randomly.It was proved that they lied numerous times and they were present in the drinking party so they are not Just random people.
