Your tank is stunning but I'm slightly confused with the way your filter is set up...I have the same or very similar , my understanding is water enters the top into the pre filter then goes down to the bottom via the triangular tube in the corner and then works it's way up through the baskets and finally back out to the tank.
If that's the case then the sponges should be in the bottom tray so the media doesn't get covered In fish waste and filth ?

Ive read a lot about this and its very interesting. Could be another fish industry money maker but I agree with you and that suggestion makes sense. These are set as per the manufacturers instructions. Putting the floss first I think it will block faster but the rest of the media will be in cleaner water to maybe work better. Having the course first put the media in dirty water so that may clog quicker. Im not entirely sure whats best. But these work well, dont clog up this way and I have never had any ammonia or nitrite.

Did you change out the unsightly green input and output heads, strains and pipes from Eheim? If yes, please share how and with what parts. I cannot find anything here in the US.

I'm.stuck with the green pipes with white logos for now. But they are mostly hidden by the plants. They do black pipes or you can get stainless steel or glass ones over here.

How often do you clean the pipes? Mine get really dirty very fast

Thats a great point, the pipes get very dirty but as they are difficult to remove its a big job to do and I should do it more often. Ill add that to this weeks list.

@@discus.switch i cleaned my pipes and the waterflow increased substantially. If the waterflow decreases than its more of a pipe thing than filthy filter

Im wondering if I should be cleaning mine more often. The intakes get blocked quite quickly but mainly due to the plants.
