  • A much needed update on whats going on. There are an infinite number of directions that a business can go in the future and it can be overwhelming. I choose to be excited to see what happens. I'm planning on investing in three areas. Some sort of software to increase efficiency. Additional people to help get work done faster. More printing capacity to speed up printing during busy times. Wohoo!

Similar pathway, but with UK and international experience. It's been interesting to see how printing has changed through electronic/computerization. From letterpress to digital, how life changes; glad to leave the burn for others. Living life until my stamina runs down, love seeing this guy's firm develop. 🙏🇪🇺🍷🇬🇧🇫🇷👍

@@willwagoner5962 Hi, thanks for your reply. When I power up both the controller and the printer, the printer shows "Ready to Print," and the controller appears to fully boot with "00" displayed. However, the controller is greyed out on the printer's screen, and I am unable to log in to CWS.

As a former printer who had to shut it down due to loosing $$$$ and having a disabled child to take care of, it gives me so much joy and hope to see you loving what you do.
I have wonderful memories of dealing with clients who were impossible to satisfy as well as some who knew exactly what they wanted and were satisfied with the end results.

Hello sir, glad to see you again! Dont scrap those Ultra+ printers. I keep an Ultra+ and an Ultra running with over 100 million clicks apiece. They still run great but require the usual periodic maintenance. Parts for the Titans work in those older printers. You probably need new charge grid assemblies, OPC belts, and TTF belts. Youll need someone with a laptop configured with Oce Robin/Porthos to connect to them to run the necessary adjustments. Good luck!

    • @justaprinter
      @justaprinter  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

The laptop is the problem. I'll keep searching for someone. But honestly just am ready to move to a machine that I have control over. I only spent a few thousand dollars on my Ultras so no loss there. Just a shame since they are in such good condition.

Happy to see a new video, Dan! So glad you’ve been busy and doing well. As far as recommendations go, I’ve always been a Ricoh guy, so I’d recommend the new c9500 for color work. You could probably replace all three of those smaller color machines with one. As you know it always comes down to service, so it depends on what’s reliable in your area. Web to Print, I would say PageDNA. Little expensive but very nice suite. Those continuous inkjet machines are amazing, but I’m not sure you have enough space there. Would make things easier for finishing going roll to finish. Glad you’re back!

Watched a few of your videos, and I always come back to the same thought: I bet a lot of people wonder "where is everybody?" I have been in commercial printing since 1985, was in commercial web till 1999 when I was recruited to a sheetfed printer. Ran that company till 2015 when the corporate owner family sold all 46 properties. I now run a digital only shop similar to yours.
There is now only 3 of us. I do almost everything, from sheet printing on our Ricoh, envelopes on the Xante (will they ever fix their feeding system???) to cutting/boxing/shipping... to doing all of the accounting, most of the job estimating, and all of the prepress work as well.
But anyway - the answer to "where is everyone?" -- welcome to small digital shops everywhere. We do it all.

  • @rogueduxfootball

Automating your workflow is a move that should benefit your shop & web to print, done right, will grow your biz.. You also mention adding new/used gear and I can see you’re entering a space where inkjet might be on the horizon for consideration. Sheetfed or continuous - sheetfed is the lowest entry point. Canon makes both and you will get PRISMAsync controllers. I don’t work for Canon anymore (retired) and I don’t know where you’re located, but I do know it costs nothing to inquire. You really should.

Been moving my shop away from ink presses to completely digital. it gets harder and harder to find parts when they break now. plus we used to get large runs(well for us at least) of 50,000 to 60,000 runs, now a large run is 10,000. ink presses are great for them, but if you dont have huge volume, theres really no more need for ink. why would you want to stand in front of a device that gives off heat, is messy and loud and you have to pa attention to every little thing when you can just load up multiple drawers on a copier and fire and forget and watch a movie

Hi. Welcome back. In our place we have a konica 1060 and a xerox 700. We used to have a konica 7000. From my experience the xerox is a far more reliable machine and if I was investing in a new machine I'd be looking at a fuji since xerox and fuji parted company. If I had the cash and were printing on uncoated stock I would take a hard look at the kyocera inkjet press.
As for Web to print the options are endless and about impossible to work out what will work best long term. We're looking at a plug in called nb designed. But weather it's the best or not is questionable. But it look like an inexpensive root to start with.
Nice to see a few videos again and I'm tempted to start doing the same but I'm camera shy lol.

@@justaprinter I'm not sure on the model I seen at the print show in Birmingham nec. I'll check in the morning. I find the whole thing interesting but the figures I was getting I could put in 2 new xerox, fuijis or konica machines . But also in my location Ireland. There no sales team for the kyocera let alone engineers support. We print mainly on silk / matt stock so it makes it not a good move for us at this time.
I've been in this industry since I was 12 working for my dad and he started when he was 18 and he's nearly 70. With 2 heidelberg platens, a gto52, 2 digital machines and a Roland wide format I think we have a machine problem or are gluttons for punishment lol.
I think at 15 I ran my first color job on a single colour Thompson mark 2 crown press. As you can guess I love print and I love equipment. Look forward to the next update. If I ever start recording I'll let you know.

Dan, love watching the videos I recommend printsmith for your MIS really great at helping capture cost while quoting professionally and quickly they have w2p integration as well. I have not personally use that but our shop has use printsmith for 26 years and could not do with out it. I would say make sure you are raising your prices enough each year / quarter so much of demand can be throttled using price with out having to buy more equipment we have km 3080 I am looking at the 7100 as a possible upgrade.

I genuinely love your content so much. I feel like I have no business being here as i've never worked in printing/publishing but I find this all so facinating and your videos are a cozy watch for me. I've been making hand-bound books for a year now and I appreciate seeing the ins and outs of a commercial print-shop, and I feel like its helped to elevate what i've been able to produce at home. Very glad to see you're back and doing so well!

On the Canon with the highlights being washed out: on machines with developer in the toner, there's no separate developer housing, so not likely to be a problem there. More likely is that your charge on the drum is too strong and the laser is not forming a good potential to attract the toner.
This might be a cloudy glass in the laser, but it's more likely the grid over the corona wires that help make an even charge on the drum. Like you said, clean it all up, and see what happens.

Interesting, I wouldn't be surprised if it was something in the environment, like humidity or dust. Simply because both presses started doing the same things around the same time. I'll mess around with them a bit. Thanks for the tips!

Had a Canon copier I bought years ago refurbished. One day, it just stopped working and no techs could do anything about it. A bit disturbing thinking Canon may have just decided to EOL the machines and kill my equipment.
On the upside, I ordered a new Konica that should be arriving in the next few weeks. It is only a copier, not a press (quieter and lower quantity).
Glad to see your videos are back again.

    Hi Guys,
I need some help with an issue I encountered during the printing process in our POD room in UK.
We have a black and white printer (Xerox B9110) that we use to print or internal blocks and it works fine. The issue we have is that the books come wavy when they are finished.
I have tried changing grain direction which definitely improved it a bit, but they are still wavy. I know this issue may be a tempereature and humidity related but we have had a constant temperature of 21 degrees celsius during the day and 16 during night with the humidity around 40/45%.
The stacks of paper (SRA3) do already come wavy from the printer and they get worse when I perfect bound them. We have a CP BOURG BB3102.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Your help would be much appreciated.

So happy to see you. Here, have another comment to tell the algo there's "he's back" hype and hopefully overcome the "let's file channels that post infrequently in the cabinet that has its opening at the top" thing TH-cam likes to do.
PS: As someone for whom those machines seem like magic, I'd be interested in a video explaining how they manage to pick up a single sheet of paper and keep it moving straight and where it's supposed to go. I mean, the collator makes sense with its vacuum separation, but those presses and office printers...

What do you think can I move my black printing works on 6501? Is it economic to still maintain it ?

Hey, hello, I came to your channel because I just bought a C4065, but the distributor couldn't give me much information about the special materials that can be printed, and I'm looking for that information. Have you experimented with other materials other than paper? I am referring to materials such as white, holographic or transparent adhesive vinyl for stickers, or also, stonepaper or polypap type. Thanks in advance.
