I lived in Africa back in the day. Land cruisers were the bush trucks to have even then. Today, in California, I have a jdm 70 series to putter around to remind myself of the old days!Thank you David for this beautiful video.
I love my Land Cruiser 78 Troopy and I’m so glad to live in a free country where we can enjoy and by new Land Cruisers. Also I enjoyed my time in Africa
Welcome to Africa . Hope to see you in South Africa 🇿🇦 next. Home of Toyota SA manufacturing in Durban . And builders of the Dakar rally GR sport vehicles 😊
David, I am looking forward to your full "Kars of Kenya" series. I understand the Corolla Fielder and ProBox rule the cities the way the 70 Series rules the range. 😉
The Landcruisers only downfall offroad are the leaf springs and narrow rear track. They can get in the way in certain conditions with rocks and ruts. Otherwise they are extremely tough. The Mahindra Scorpios are sometimes used. They perform almost as well. Only last half as long but cost less than half the price of a Landcruiser and are a bit more comfortable for guests.
David, what is the reason why Toyota has not launched commercial vehicles in the Chinese mainland market? Chinese consumers can only parallel import hilux, lc70, hiace from Thailand and the Middle East market, which is too bad.
It's crazy how much so many people want this vehicle and Toyota tries their best to not sell it in north America and sell products less than. Don't they want to make more money?
yes a 78 series troopy van is on my wish list ,( the car camper overland adventure tour rig I could build think if it was 4.5 v8 diesel im good for ever
Land Cruisers there are strictly made to be reliable, they don’t have all them luxury bells and whistles like in The US. They literally are simple and still carry the V8. Them vehicles are made for the area, they got videos of them driving through the river
David you forgot to mention Toyota's proven inline 6 cylinder 1HZ which dates-back to the 1990s is fitted for the African market for its simplicity and reliability...
wish you can give the new 2.8 auto land ruiser 70 a run though. With engine and gearbox being from the hilux is starting to be really hard understanding why they charge so much for it. Is the steel thicker? Other components really more heavy duty than a parade to 300 series? Th price just doesn't make sense anymore.
@下田洋介-w4z doesn't explain the high cost of the LC 70. It should be way cheaper than Prado but perhaps more than a Hilux. But currently priced around the same as the Prado. Makes no sense unless there is something we don't see e.g everything is thicker metals and build more robust but I'm not sure that is actually the case.
@@imopn Prado is like a toy, compare to lc70, 70 has heavy duty solid front and rear axles, leaf springs at rear, 70 is very costly to make. Even in japan, the price of revival 2.8d 70 is almost as same as LC300 v6 petrol twin turbo man.
@下田洋介-w4z We all believe that but is it really built tougher? No one ever actually measures things like steel thickness or engineering to see if it really is more heavy duty. Hence me saying if an ex Toyota engineer can actually put in the effort to actually clarify that in objective measures rather than all of us simply drawing on our subjective feelings towards this legend of a car.
Sorry, but you can't import them unless it's more than 25 years old for US and 15 years for Canada (they do have these older Land Cruiser 70s avail to import)
@@AutomotivePress if one can find a good one ,these no rust not used as a farm truck, on the beach . do you ever ck the odometer to to see how many KMS there is ? I used to when I went to Mexico
love land cruise'sr to, but Toyota wont give us a LC 300 in the U.S. we wanted a s.u.v.,= simple, utilitarian, versatile and affordable.not a $100k 3 row luxury family school bus loaded with every power opt ., we have 3 LX600/4 lx700h models.why cant we have a LC 300? base model still rims ,a true off road wagon price point below sequoia trd pro, 70 series trophy van , the car camper, overland adventure rig one could build , no need to tear out the power fold 2nd and 3rd rows air bags etc .

A true workhorse fitting for these conditions. Love it!
They work so well it would put the other domestic options out of business in North America

Amazing sa, Land Cruiser and Africa are a match made in heaven. And Toyota knows it.

Beautiful Kenya! Thanks, David! This is nice. I wish it was longer. I wish we could get the 70 series, too.

I spent most of my time in the Safaris, so I only saw Land Cruiser 70s!
@@AutomotivePress 😁
Thanks for sharing your trip to Africa, did you compare the panel gaps with your LC 500 ?
Ha ha, my LC is till better built!
I would buy one in a second.
Wish we got that here
Amazing content!

I really like that 70 Series with the retrofit lol
I know, I fell in love with these Land Cruisers!
Hopefully we reduce our emission standards so we can get it in the USA. If taxes is a worry just build it here, brings jobs and vehicles people want.

Beautiful Kenya, your next trip should be to South Africa
World class Toyota factory
Home of the Hilux, Fortuner, Corolla cross etc
Thanks... I've been to South Africa though

It's all about emissions and regulations in whichever country you live in. That's why we miss out.
Please Toyota 🙏bring the 70 series to the United States. 😊

Low emission rated diesel engine is very expensive, plus inflation economy, even Hilux is getting expensive evey year.....

Do those have all the emissions and computer bs on them?
North Americans - TAKE MY MONEY! Toyota - Naw.......
Drove one in zambia on about 400kms dirt road. Thought i was going to have spinal transplant lol
I did the same some time ago 😂
Ya Toyota bring the landcruiser 70 series to America.. we want and need it .. the 250 Prado is not what we want..
You’ll have to talk to your government emissions & safety regulators. Here in Aus I have a 79 series. Problem free.
