    Thank you for this show, I am enjoying the series. Went to College in Durango CO back in the 70s and remember in those days the Rio Grande. Part of the San Juan Extension ran and still does run from Durango to Silverton. Beautiful part of the country.

      BNSF Bandit hi !! I use the most amazing software to “make” the sound track. I buy stock music which is recorded in tracks and broken up by measures. So I can put in one bar of violin or 5 bars of everything or just the drums or no drums or whatever. So I can really change the stock music to exactly fit the visuals. Cool right?

    I can't remember if I've seen this video before (I've seen many of yours) but it sure was enjoyable watching it this time. MTH's version of #7 is what got me into my second life in O-gauge, still in its infancy but coming along. I've had the good fortune of riding the Goose that's at Knotts many years ago (in the '70s?) and I find them and their story fascinating. Thank you for a very nice presentation.

    Technically that was a step deck trailer. Lowboy trailers either have folding goosenecks or removable goosenecks. Then the lowboy trailers are loaded from the front, with the deck resting on the ground. Stepdecks require a loading dock to load them. Really beautiful country!

    I just wanted to make a mention that over in the town of Telluride, right outside of the town hall on main street (Colorado Ave.) there is a galloping goose on display, but it doesn't have a number. Everything looks original on and in it, even the way the metal body looks is similar to #5. There also used to be one in Ridgway, which is about 25-30 minutes south of Montrose, but sadly it caught on fire a few years ago and burned to the ground.

  • @trainzguy2472

    When I was there in about July 2016, I was fortunate enough to be able to ride on a train pulled by a double header! The train had somewhere between 6 and 9 cars and was packed full of people, requiring them two locomotives to pull it up the pass. Once we got to the top, the helper was cut off and we continued on with one engine. I was in one of the rear cars, so whenever the train went around a tight bend, I could get a cool shot of the locomotive!

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isn't that great!!! Double header!!! Did you see that footage I put up on the "old video" a rescued? Has a great double header on that hill.

    I did ride on galloping geese # 7 in the Colorado railroad museum and I film it. the CRRM has 3 of the GG trains and 4 GG engines are in other museums and I see you film 2 of them which is GG # 5 and GG # 7, the Galloping Goose is pretty cool.

    You know....I can't helped but be reminded of the truck/train hybrid from the 1985 movie, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. When I saw this thing. Because this looks like something that was build in a post-apocalyptic world or something. Which is kinda cool.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One thing about mad max that cracks me up is in a world where gasoline is more precious than life, the popular ride is the Rat Rod or 60’s muscle car with a blower. And the roads look like they were paved yesterday. I think a Honda 90 dirt bike would fit better. But then the movie woulda bombed.

      Take it at night. It is magical and usually sold out very fast. the Polar Express on the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad. Trust me Johnny, during the day some rather un-savory sights can be seen from the train during the day. Night hides those less then "scenic" sights. And, after all the Polar Express happened at night. You will love it along with your friends. Don't watch the movie but do read the book to the youngins before you go.

      Those units exist! All the freight boxes were converted to passenger areas in the 50's for excursions, and they love them like that to haul people. AND as they were only fright from about 33 to 55, they are more "historic" the way they are. The 6 holds like 1 person, but the rest hold a bunch. Like 20.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sad, but no. Love to see the line relaid between Durango and Chama, but cost millions.... The Silverton Northere is being rebuilt though, and will connect at Silverton to the D and S. AND the line over Tennessee Pass almost connects to the CATS at Anteneto. They miss by about a mile. But as that is standard gauge, and CATS 3 foot, the miss by gauge too. BUT you can ride both!!

    You are a fantastic video crew.. And your good choice of music is rare...I only wish you'd keep your Jetsons space ship logo, but rename it "Model Man".. Serious model railroaders, me included, get queasy when you refer to the hobby as 'toys', your being Toy Man and all...I'm sure folks who are your fans for a long time wouldn't mind. And newbies like me would easily assume this to be a mere early editing/site change. Well if not my idea, at least something closer knit to railroadiana....
    Thanks for the great quality coverage either way. Nice to see the colors THEY saw too, during the gold rush days; IE It wasn't black and white the way the photos, films and newsprint put out back then !!

    How narrow is narrow in those parts of the world?

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      3 feet. In the Us standard is the more or less "usual" 4 feet 81/2 inches. Most narrow gauge was built in 3 feet. Mostly in the west. In the east 2 feet was common. And all the usual others, even meter however that may have been limited to about 6 feet of track at a museum.

      BAck when Lincoln declared the "National railroad gauge" to be 4 feet 8 1/2 inches anything less than that has beed said to be "narrow" Anything wider to be "wide" gauge.

    A hearty, "Well Done You: as Sister Evangeline would say on, "Call the Midwife". You guys had a rip-roaring time. By all means do score some geese. Now which scale. Would it be On3, On30? Or keeps his K-27 company, both Accurcraft and Bachmann in 1:20.3. Honestly I hope your new layout will be the large stuff. As that "Suspicious Fellow", you know that long winded chap that worried about getting rattle snakes in his combine. Hmm! Will we ever know Dale's evil twin. Or would he be a Doppelganger? Oh never mind. The Bride and I are waiting for the "pile-driver", of next week's, exciting adventure or Toy Man and Karen.

      HI YOU GUYS!! Karyn want's 1:1 scale. Hum.. Found one in New Mexico!! Really!! A guy built one that runs on tires. Now selling... I'm sticking to 1:20.3. However I just started the "accidental layout" which will be a show. When unpacking O scale buildings at Garagemahall and putting them on a shelf. Could not help moving them around, and setting a loco, figuring where I would put track IF this were a layout not a shelf of old buildings and suddenly realized I have built an accidental layout. So will be soon laying track. GAD another project.

      Whatever ye shall do-do it well. Face it whether by accident or subconsciously, or, on purpose it is all in pursuit of Maximum Screwing Around. Well, if it has tires I guess you can turn it around anywhere. LOL!
