I think this song is about infidelity. The man can't choose between two women. the one waiting at home (someone who loves you) and the girl who is singing the song. The girl wants him, but says don't tell me you can be with me when you can't, (don't touch me, boy I want you, you, not allowed to, you have someone who loves you), she's effectively saying don't give me false hope. She says she is waiting patiently for him to make a decision between them, but knows she is deluded because he won't ever really leave the other woman. He's telling her that her being around him is making him more and more tempted. He says, I thought I made it clear, don't whisper in my ear, (don't whisper things that will make me fall for you) because he's scared of falling in love with her, when he knows he shouldn't. He feels torn between the two.women (what's a boy to do, when he can't seem to choose). They both like eachother, that's why they talk about the comedown because it's hard when they want to be together, but know they shouldn't be because of the other woman who loves him . It is forbidden love. That's my interpretation anyway.
My take on this song is what I get from the music video. In the video, we see a girl (who's "alternate representation" is of a Geisha - a traditional Japanese entertainer). I think the important thing here is that Geisha's cannot marry as long as they are in the job; they have to wait until after they retire. Thus, the lyrics "I'm waiting, and I'm patient, I'm deluded." Imo, the whole Geisha thing is just a big metaphor for a person you love, but can't have. Which in the case of the song, could go both ways. The guy wants the girl, but she can't be with him, and vice versa.
