A lesson in dancing from a super talented youngster - priceless! (Stephen Cootes from Edinburgh. He just won the World Northern Dancing Competition. Well deserved imo)
Hi stephen what terrific moves you have. R u single??? I cant stop watching this video of you. So passionate with every move. What a northern dancer. ❤
This dancer is great, good balance and rhythm and he interpretates the music so well.Nice to see people enjoying themselves,no nastiness or fights just sharing the moment and the dance floor.
So true without the youngsters coming into the scene unfortunately it will die.no disrespect to people my age 50s/60s and 70s year old our minds willing but our bodies don't quite work it.doesnt mean to lay down and give but the scene does need the younger energetic crowd to push it forward.it doesn't matter how old we our Northern soul which is incredibly nearly 60 years is so damned good it should never be allowed to fade away
He's just too good for words! Nevertheless, a few adjectives are in order: Silky smooth, agile, elegant, original, focused and with an impeccable sense of rhythm. Thank you!
@@davecanly7535 Where can one catch a glimpse of the "better" ones, please? I think this guy sensational! If there are better then I want to see them! Thanks.

Steve Cootes The flying Scotsmen he is the best at spinning iv seen but also a brilliant all rounder.1 of my favourite N.S.dancers.A privilege to watch him.
I've been back to this video many times.. cause I love the music and the dancing fits so well as it appears almost effortless... an absolute classic oldie, and Mr Cootes does it justice. At about 19 seconds when Cootes put his hands in his pockets I'm expecting him to pull out a packet of Embassy Filter and a Zippo, which would be very period for Wigan / Stoke in the 70's :)
Every move is perfect , watched him a million times over , brilliant , ,!!!!! and never get bored his amazing , keep on keeping on the faith , amazing dancer , 😍😍xxx
I'm over 60 and can still do the splits,it's the only way I can spin coming back up! it takes loads of practise and not being fussed about falling over + messing up,well worth it imo
By far the best 'spinners' I ever saw were the 'Twins' at the Catacombs [1972]. They were both incredible and could hold a perfect spin for around 10 seconds. 'Little Pete' was quite good too [he was captured on video at Wigan].
I was switching between the dude who luvs to spin, damn he is good and the lady in a short white dress (thin legs) who basically just stood there. Kept waiting for her to move, but didn’t want to miss the guys dancing. Enjoyed that for some reason. Great music
I thought her interpretation of the track quite bizarre and was also switching viewing between the two 🤔 🤣 was she lost or just mash up ? All welcome at a soul do ! KTF
Nice to see a young lad enjoying the scene. However... He needs to meet Vernon from Bradford.... The KING of spinners. A lot of old Wigan footage features him spinning like a top.
Wonderful this man can truly dance and entertain those all around him,no excuses I'm a complete and utter dedicated PINK FLOYD FAN Through and THROUGH and not ashamed to admit that...but .....I also enjoy tripping and hipping to northern soul at the tender age of 58!!!, long live fabulous music of all ages to all ages.....!!!!!!!!.
Well cool... not just the spins but the fact that they are in time. So often the spins, and in fact all the acrobatic stuff, loses synch with the music but not this chap. Now lets see ya spin the other way! :)
Straw man... .I couldn't care less if your buddies could spin at 100 miles an hour, balancing on the peak of Blackpool tower, It doesn't take anything away from Steve Cootes brilliance. It's a shame you felt the need to say that, a lot of us may disagree with you, and why should we care .
Don't get so toutchy , just making a well informed opinion ,I am so pleased that the young kids are carrying on the torch just like we did in the mid seventies sneaking into the Mecca at Blackpool, and the casino at the age of 15 that national express coach you might have seen on some Wigan videos on TH-cam well that was us , Keighley, Bradford,Leeds ,so really I wasn't having a go at the kid at all , just giving my seen it done it been there opinion ktf Yorkshire lass,,,,,

He’s brilliant. I wish I could dance like that. 6 months later I keep coming back to watch this and still wishing.
He’s really good. I could watch him dance for ages
There was a time when everyone danced at the pier at cleathorpes with that passion now it just a memory
This is what the scene was all about in the 70's and 80's. So light on his feet, so engrossed in the music and his spins look effortless. So envious.
