This is not about giving. It's about a corrupt state system taking away from even those with who couldn't support themselves. On the other hand, it is also about how individuals who have given blindly apart from faith but blind obedience.

Yes....but v few are willing to see it this way...my recent article touched this subject: that the widow's offering is not only about giving but about a corrupt and self righteous religious system...few PPL came very strongly at me, they r just not willing to see the larger context.

The Widow is not an example of giving. In no way did Jesus commend her. The widow is an example of devouring widows houses. You should know the Word of God through and through if you’re going to stand up there and teach it.

Good grief. This was not the point of the story of the widow's mite. Jesus was speaking clearly about the abuse of the poor that the Pharisees had perpetrated upon the people. Read the end of the previous chapter (Luke 20) and then pick up the next chapter where the story begins. Keep in mind that the original writings were not divided by chapters and verses. You'll see it.

Why do you say that this woman was devoured? I have heard John MacArthur on this topic, arguing that this widow was devoured and that Jesus wasn't giving her credit or anything like that.
What I found lacking in his explanation is why Jesus would have said: The widow has given more than all the others, because she gave of her necessity...
So while I may not agree with the lesson: God only cares about how much pain giving your gift does to you, I would say that Jesus spoke favorably of the action of this widow by saying she threw in more than anyone else. (Mark 12:43-44)

In Mark 11, we see Jesus telling the scribes and Pharisees that they had made the House of Prayer a den of thieves. IN Mark 12, we see Jesus warning the crowd the next day to beware of the Staff of that now corrupt system.
It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to say that Jesus was commending the widows' contribution. Why would He commend her when He had identified the Temple as a den of thieves and the leadership of the Temple as corrupt?

    • @thrufaithalone
      @thrufaithalone 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Rekenbij Um...Jesus had just told his disciples that the scribes devour widows' houses. She was his example. He could have chosen a poor man, or simply a poor woman, but he specifically chose a poor widow. She was his example of how the scribes were devouring widows' houses. She gave all she had all right. She gave more than the others all right. They weren't being fleeced. Jesus had no words of praise for her - only condemnation for the scribes. Again, she was his example.

Jesus was condemning the system that caused that widow to give up everything she had. You're correct. The church should be helping the widows and orphans, not encouraging people to give when they can't afford it.

Actually, Jesus is talking about how evil the religious system is. Read the widow's mite in context: Jesus has just said that the religious leaders tithed out of their abundance, but the widow put in all she had to live on. In other words, if nobody provided for her, somehow, then she went home and died. And Jesus was condemning what the leaders did to that widow.

If you go for the Gospel of Works then this interpretation makes sense.
But if you believe in the Gospel Of Grace ... then Jesus is saying "look here is a woman that gives her last money ... all that she had to live on ... in an attempt to buy her way into heaven. They, the rich, gave because they have it in abundance. Jesus then warned that this system will come to and end. And later Jesus said "no stone will be left upon each other" and still further in the same chapter gives a stern warning : "Beware of the false teacher ... that comes with this type of "paying God for miracles"

you were doing well up to about the 11 minute mark at which time YOU became the religious leader, the false teacher. This is a PRIME example of why Jesus sat in the temple and observes/listens to critique and judge what He witnessed. The widow was not commended. All who have watched this video and been further deceived should continue reading after this story. The day that this occurred didn’t end with Jesus observing the widow. Pick up the story in the scriptures that follow and you will see that that was one of the many reasons the temple would be destroyed.
I read it in the account of Mark in chapter 12 but the day continues in Mark 13 where Jesus talks about the temple being destroyed. It was then and it is now being used to abuse the poor and naive.
Mark 13...As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!”
2 “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
Tell your followers why the temple was destroyed and why the church will be judged harshly and rightly so because of false teachers.

you need to consider the context and in the 4 versions of this in the gospels Jesus never said she was blessed it He said she gave all she had and she gave more than everyone else based on the percentage that was left over the story was an indictment against the religious system that will force and prey on the poor especially widows and made her believe that she had to give all she had to live on and go home and die. I don't know how anybody can read this in the context and come to conclusion that you're supposed to give all you have and go home and die. This is has got to be the greatest misunderstanding or the universal way to get people to give money to support churches. I've got 1700 commentaries from far smarter men that I that say the same thing in many different ways but people have been and still are still trying to buy and sell God's blessing it's a free gift what part of that do preachers and teacher not get? How long will The church keep trying to sell God's blessing or people try to buy God's blessing. when you are born again born from above everything you have nothing including self will anymore it is now Christ because you're his slave you've been bought with a price His blood not because were special but because God is merciful. romans is full of slave language those in christ's are slaves to christ but a good master doesn't want his people to starve to death or manage money He provides poorly Please consider what you're teaching people.

"Thus says The Lord: Blessed is that servant of Mine who seeks out the poor, whose heart is eager to help the needy, for they know My ways and seek to please Me. Blessed also is My servant who gives out of the abundance they have received, for they walk in My ways. Yet most blessed is My servant who gives from their lack, for they do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with their God; indeed, they have understood.
Yet woe to those who ignore the poor and draw back their hand from the needy, while they sit at ease in their abundance. For destitution is coming, and shall be born out of great desolation, in the day I take away their abundance and leave their houses desolate. Woe also to those who say they are My servants, yet refuse to help those in need, for only tears and sorrow await them. And woe to those who fail to give even the smallest amount, claiming they are in lack, for they have no trust, having learned nothing from the poor widow.[1]
Little flock, have you learned nothing from My Word? Have you so quickly forgotten My Letters, in where I have taught you the way in which you should walk? Indeed, who you choose defines what you do, as I have already told you.[2] And who are the poor and the needy? How have you treated them, while entreating Me? Do not lie to yourselves, beloved ones. Every one of you who sit at this table want for nothing. Shall you mince words over a dollar, while others sit upon the ground seeking to draw water from a pit? Shall you covet five dollars or even ten as you drive about in your automobiles, while your brothers and sisters abroad willingly walk miles to preach My Word, with joy, even to their dying breath?
And still some of you sit at ease in your padded chairs, punching the keys, saying within yourselves, “I am delivered.” You are not delivered! From the power of sin, yes, My children, I have delivered you, yet some of you remain married to this world. And those who remain married to another, even to themselves, can by no means be joined unto Me, lest adultery be brought into the house of The Lord.
Beloved ones, you are My treasure. Yet some of you count yourselves as first, having loved another more than Me; therefore you must be last. For I search the hearts and minds. And that discipline reserved for the churches of men, is it not also for you, even to a greater degree? Or have you forgotten this Scripture: For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more?
    Therefore choose, make your decision...
    It is time...
    Says The Lord."
    [1]Mark 12:41-44
    ~
"Comfort the sick, lift up the downtrodden, and visit those in prison; clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, and above all feed the hungry; do so in My name. For in Me shall all find comfort, exaltation, companionship, warm coverings and sanctuary from the storm; even food and drink for their soul shall they receive in Me. For all these things are the very definition and purpose of love.
Thus as I am, so also were you created...
    Understand Love...
For in My love were you created,
    To receive and to give;
And in the giving does one also receive...
    Therefore, love one another
    As I have loved you...
    Says The Lord your Redeemer."
