  • As the disciples marveled at the magnificent temple in Jerusalem, Jesus declared an astonishing prophecy: not one stone would be left standing. Continuing his sermon series in the gospel of Luke, today R.C. Sproul points out the significance of Christ’s prediction and its fulfillment.
This sermon was preached by R.C. Sproul at Saint Andrew's Chapel in Sanford, Fla. Hear more from his series in the gospel of Luke: • The Gospel of Luke: Se...

VS 23-24 Gaza was just the start. Now this week Israel is surrounded by 7 countries.
VS 24. It talks about the Fulfillment of gentiles. Then God's attention will be focused solely on Israel, bec the gentiles will No longer have an opportunity for salvation.
VS 35-36 is like REV 3:10 His wrath comes upon those who live ON the earth, so pray you are able to ESCAPE!!!

Bill, do you believe that Christ will come again visibly to judge the living and the dead, and that it would usher in the new heavens and the new Earth? As I have said before, this prophecy cannot be ultimately fulfilled in the destruction of the temple, for several reasons, though, if I’d have to mention only one reason, only one passage of scripture which completely destroys this view, I’d refer you to acts 1:9-11, which says:
9And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. 11They also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”
done! End of story! And I rest my case.

How do you explain the 490 prophecy. There's a 7 year gap between the times the walls of Jerusalem were built, and Christ rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.
I tend to lean towards your view but can't prove there's still a 7 year gap awaiting us.

@e.t.h.559 The language used in Acts 1:9-11 can be understood metaphorically, indicating Jesus' spiritual reign and presence rather than a physical return. The phrase "in the same way" refers to the manner of Jesus' exaltation and authority rather than a specific mode of physical return.

@Hashukana The 490-year prophecy is commonly associated with the "Seventy Weeks" prophecy found in Daniel 9:24-27. This prophecy was fulfilled in the events of the first century, particularly with the second coming of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the New Covenant.
The 70 weeks are symbolic and do not represent a literal 490-year timeframe. The 70 weeks represent a period of time leading up to the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 AD. This event marked the fulfillment of the prophecy .

@@1Whipperin The language used in Acts 1:9-11 is not speaking about the manner of Jesus' exaltation and spiritual presence. The context of the passage speaks about Jesus' physical presence with His disciples, His departure, and His final return.
In Acts 1:11, the angel says that Jesus "will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." This statement indicates that Jesus' return will have a physical component since it refers to the physical way the disciples saw him leave.
they did not see Christ’s exaltation, at the right hand of the father, they only saw him going up into heaven, and finally disappearing. The passage even mentions that they were looking up into the sky after he had left, but that they saw nothing else. Your interpretation is forced, There is absolutely nothing in the context that would even suggest an allegorical interpretation.

So, this has all already taken place. This is when the house of Israel and the house of Judea were divided North and South. The house of Israel was made lost by God due to idolatry. The house of Judea was punished for the same and God causes countries to attack Judea and they fled into the mountains. Those 2 houses will return and that time has not yet come. It is still the time of the gentiles.
