      I laughed so hard at that omg, I love Jesse's boundaries with his horses. Not that Matt is terrible for using spurs, but it's just not how Jesse's horses are trained. I think it was really good for Matt, it seems like he treats his equipment as a crutch sometimes, hes so picky on his riding. sometimes you need to step back, chill out, and just experience the horse you've been given. having to geo creative makes you a better rider! Jesse knows that and I think he set this up so he could pick on Matt a little and challenge him. Antares is looking stunning as well.

      Honestly , I love both of them, I really do. But I have 2 horses witch are also very different, in height and character, so I dont See his point of needing spurs on a smaller horse. My mare is pretty small, but i'd never used them on her , simply because the one time I tried to See if she even knows spurs she immodeatly went head up , back low and tail up (if that make sense ,english aint my first language 😅). Also shes a showjumper and we do a lot of free work without bridle so no need for if anyway. While my Gelding , who is ten years younger and trained for dressage , is reletavly tall and I user spurs on him , simply because he's comftable with them. @@jennifergudmundson2277 you are aware that spurs aren’t generally bad right? They are supposed to be an extension of the leg, an additional use to touch the body of the horse and give signals. Sure, Matt seems to be a little too used to spurs and not every horse needs them, but Matt is a very experienced and good rider. He is not using the spurs to hurt the horse as sadly a lot of people do, I assume this is where your negative view of spurs came from. Any equipment can be used to harm the horse and one of the most harming things is the body of the rider itself, which is the reason spurs can be harmful. If they are hurting the horse, it’s the rider’s fault, not the spurs themselves. If used correctly, they are like a longer part of the leg and the horse will not feel a difference.
      Matt seems to be a high skilled rider and yes, he may use spurs unnecessarily often, but definitely not in a harming way.

    I agree with the spur situation. Ever since I was younger and started riding, I was always taught to use the inside of the calf. As I started working with even better professionals in the industry they talked about and described riders that would use their heel and just spur for almost Every aid with everything they’re doing with the leg. My instructors would always teach to use the calf and not the heel or rely on spur for everything. If it was supposed to be a heel aid or a spur all the time, it would be called a heal aid not a leg aid. Your calf is already nicely positioned and in contact with your Horse’s side and always right there ready to give an aid. You do not need to rely on just the spur or bending your knee and using your heel. Using the inside of your calf makes your aids that much more quiet and invisible, Long as you are positioned correctly and using your aids correctly And your horse is trained to be on your aids or in front of your leg.

      Never in all my years of riding have i ever heard or taught any1 the ....heel aid😅 theres no such thing! Heels down ..yes absolutely. But heel aid ..nope! Not sure where u guys take lessons but thats not a thing. Leg aid yes. U use ur heel to find different buttons. From ur comment im wondering what level u ride at. U use ur heel or spur to find different buttons. Ie at a higher level most horses have 4 different trots and canters. The leg or calve to be precise is too large a area to give these precise aids to find the different buttons on the horses barrel. Hence why spurs are used and are required in most high level tests. Infact in most its a requirement to wear them to give ur horse more direct aids. But yh once u move up the levels and ur horse does too, the calf just is too large to tell and communicate precisely to ur horse what u want. X

      Same when I got of the horse I knew I used leg correctly since my calf and thighs always ached. It was very rare for me to use my crop. I gave him a light tap on the shoulder to wake him up if he never responded to my leg and that was about it. I never ever use spurs.

      I used to ride a horse like this. He taught me that the back injury I had was more serious than I thought. In fact the aids I thought I was giving were actually reversed. I had an experienced instructor on the ground to observe and she said I was giving aids in reverse left/ right and right/left.😮

    • @jeanturner7444
      @jeanturner7444 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The back injury never resolved. I stopped riding within six months. I did not want to wreck good horses because I had lost ‘feel’. It has now been twenty years and the additional injuries caused by a car crash have ensured that I have not ridden to a good standard since. However, after watching your videos, I feel inspired to start again sometime soon. 18:48

    Matt, aren't you a bit too critical today? A bit of a drama queen. Jesse you follow your horse's needs, moods and desires. Not fixated on this is the only way. Flexibility is the key to success. This is the same for humans and animals. Great work Jesse.

    Looks like Matt is really depending on his spurs. When he said "otherwise I'm asking everything with this" I thought, yeah, that's how you're supposed to do it? The spurs don't replace your regular leg aids! He could really benefit from leaving them off from time to time.

    Loved watching this video. Starting my own Friesian and want to try to ride more naturally on her and more classical…Jesse your horse is beautiful and you have taught ihim to balance himself. I also loved that for once you were in control and assertive over Matt who usually comes across as the more dominating partner….loved that you asserted YOUR rules with YOUR horse! You and Matt ride so differently but you both adore your horses and it shows in all your videos. Please make more fun clips like this …I love seeing Matt out of his comfort zone and you getting amused by that! Your giggle is infectious!

    Antares - you gotta love him! Instead of doing the Spanish Walk... Antares says "that's baby stuff - I'll show you the Spanish trot!" It was such a beautiful floating trot! 👍 I 💖'd his ears at the end - flat out sideways... as if to say "I have NO idea what these two are doing!" 😁🤣😆

    I like how he stood his ground about the spurs, being a good example for people watching that you don’t need to give into the pressure to use methods that are harsher than you’re comfortable with 😊
    And i agree, spurs are just a way to cheat your way into looking more effortless. If someone actually feels like they absolutely need them, it probably means that they have unresolved problems riding with the horse.
    Although i’ve never touched them myself so what do i know, but i bet it’s the same for any tool to harden the physical pressure.
    Matt clearly didn’t need them either, and that’s always cooler and more impressive than needing them.
