  • A canoe trip along the River Derwent begins at the source in the Highlands at Lake St Clair/Cradle Mountain National Park. The canoe passes by Butler's Gorge, the HEC projects, Meadowbank, Bushy Park, Gretna, forests and hop fields, New Norfolk and ends where the river meets the sea in Hobart.

    Yes it is indeed a stunning place, I've been back several times. My parents met in Hobart in the early 50s (£10 pound Poms).

    i drove around there in november 2016 = and it snowed - in my subaru all was warm and safe = ploughing through sleet and hail - with spotted sun shine - GONDWANNA LAND = yes was connected and half the island = go have a look take your car from melbourne on the ship ! FUN DRIVING .

    Obviously there weren't any women in Tasmania until later.. "the river serves man"..lol
