Upstate NY is a wonderful place to ride. Thank you for the video.
It surely is. I enjoyed the ride and thank you for your comment. Have you done this trail? I would recommend it for sure. 😊
@@FollowThomas Sure have. I live 1 hour ride from the trail head in Rouses Point.
@@Evan-lr8nq I looked up and it's right close to Canada border in upper state NY. This is the other leg of Empire State Trail that I haven't done yet.
We really enjoyed your empire trail videos. They are the best we have seen of this trail. It is definitely on our list of trails to ride. Thanks
It's a beautiful trail and I loved the ride. Be aware of rolling hills, it's energy demanding between Hudson and Kingsley and it gets pretty remote sometimes. Easy downhill ride as you get closer to NYC
It's called the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail because it follows the former route of an electric-powered interurban railway. These were common a century ago.
I learned that reading the provided information. Thanks
Thanks Thomas.
I was just on that section at 24:22 (heading down to GWB) yesterday for my 200-mile training ride (lol).
Great content man! Greetings from a Dubliner :-)
I guess Dubliner is near the trail. Such a beautiful trail you're lucky to have as your training ground. I would ride this trail again in the future. 👍
You drove by my house in Valatie. I love the trail and am glad you enjoyed it.
Next time you see me, wave 👋 😊
Cool! I ride the Hudson Valley Rail Trail often. Great view from the Walkway Over The Hudson! Welcome to the Mid-Hudson Valley!
It's a great trail I truly enjoyed the trail and countryside 👍
Im assuming you used a bike gps computer, if so which?
I use the Ride With GPS app to record my rides and Google Maps bike overlay turn-by-turn navigation for navigation.
Nice day on the trail. Cool to see the deer. No planes landing in the Hudson this day. Making friends with the dogs. Seems like I saw this video before. Awesome seeing the old houses and the architecture from back in the day. I don't thin k you will be getting gas out of that old pump! LOL. That castle looking building was pretty neat. That bridge is massive! Well done on your adventure. Have a great day.
This is the whole ride. I've posted videos of each day earlier as I rode it back in August. One of the best bike trails in the US.
How do you know how to navigate?
I use Google Maps bike navigation overlay for navigation.

Hello from Naples, Florida. Oh, my, the views are awesome! Beautiful place for a ride. Loved seeing you interacting with the dogs, LOL. Thank you for sharing with us, have a great weekend 💯
Winter months I ride in Florida and summer months in other states. This one was at the end of September, loved the ride, thank you.
😀Have a nice one! @@FollowThomas
That cool bridge you passed in the fog was featured in the spooky film, "A Quiet Place". It looked perfect for that the day you rode over it! My husband and I have rode this stretch often. The Walkill Rail Trail is one of our favorite parts of the Empire State Trail.
Very nice, it's the trail I ride often, Hudson Valley! I pass that prison often..
It's a beautiful trail I enjoyed very much.
Looks like you had a great trip. Beautiful bike trail and so neat to see you ride into NYC.
Yeah it's interesting to ride into NYC. They have some nice trails around the NYC
Thomas, thank you for sharing your bike tour! I grew up in the Hudson Valley (Annandale-on-Hudson). Your remarks about the beauty of the countryside remind me of why I continue to return there to bicycle. At around 13:06 your entered one of my favorite towns, which does not announce itself from the direction you entered. At 13:07, the sign in the background is “Tivoli Town Crier” and at 13:31 the sign Broadway Pizza says “Tivoli” at the bottom. The name of the town is Tivoli, not Peabody. On your next ride through, stop to chat with the locals on the porch of the Tivoli Bread & Bakery, or at Fortunes Ice Cream. Keep riding & sharing your adventures.
It was a great trail and beautiful country sites I passed. I would definitely ride it again at some point. Thank you for insights and recommendations.
Wow, Thomas. Thank you for updating the video. I’m sharing this with a friend whose son will ride next week with a group of teens in the opposite direction - from NYC to Montreal.
@@wlampeter Awesome!! They're gonna love it.
Fun fact the movie a quite place was filmed @ 18:20
Ahhh cool! A really mysterious old bridge to ride over in a foggy morning 🌁
@@FollowThomas I have spent many hours marathon training and cycling. probably my favorite section around. Love the video and thanks for highlighting my back yard
@auringerr1 you're lucky to live in the area👍
that looked oddly familiar. had to google what bridge the movie was filmed at
great trip! another route to add to my bucket list! thanks for sharing!!
It's beautiful and definitely recommend but some sections are pretty remote and hilly and takes a lot of energy be ready for rolling hills.
I'm doing the same route in April. Any tips.
Are you going from Albany to NYC like me or the opposite. I would recommend my way because of the wind direction and a nice downhill before New York. Camping options are limited or are you staying in a hotel/motel? Be ready for rolling hills country roads between Hudson and Kingston. It can be pretty exhausting. No trails there but the rest of it has a nice paved trail. Lots of beautiful waterfalls and rocks. It gets pretty remote in some areas so be prepared. It's a beautiful trail you gonna enjoy it.
Do you have a GPS track?
I use the Ride With GPS app. See the video description I just added links there. Thanks
@@FollowThomas Thanks! You stayed near an awesome fire tower the second night, at Nimham Mountain. Great views! I've ridden the trail up to Poughkeepsie but haven't gone to Albany. I know the sections south of Yorktown Heights very well.
The Roe Jan Ramble in Hillsdale is a very nice ride. I didn't know there was a park with the same name!
It's a beautiful trail I loved the ride, thanks for watching 😊
The Kingston Rhinecliff bridge was the only issue my friends and i had when we did this ride twi years ago.
It's a high bridge but I think it has the bike lane. I don't remember having any problems with it.
What a trip! Riding through that muddy trail and flats. I hope your next trip is more relaxing.
Luckily it was only a short 2-3 mile section that was flooded. The rest of the ride was awesome 👍
They should change the name south and north of Albany to the “Empire State Bicycle Route” and take off “Trail” as there isn’t much of one Albany to Kingston and in the ADK’s. It’s all on road, there is no “Trail”.
I guess they're working to build more trails
@@FollowThomas Well the reality is there very little likely hood of separate trails going to be built in where they now have road sections. If the Harlem Valley Rail Trail ever gets finished in Columbia County from Chatham south, they might add that, but there is little likelihood of a dedicated “trail” being built north of Albany. It’s OK If they add dedicated bike routes with decent shoulders. That’s feasible.
This trip looked amazing! Lol I couldn't camp in the cold. Thank you for taking us on the tour of the area!
I loved the ride. New York State is beautiful. My sleeping bag lets me sleep even at 30's and I do have a liner which gives another ten degrees if needed.
@FollowThomas well that is good! Mike keeps wanting me to camp in the cold. I couldn't sleep in 60s degrees, lol. I was so cold. I need to get better sleeping bags.
Thomas do you have a video about your bike and how you are equipped?
Here is my setup video. th-cam.com/video/U5JgYEuFpks/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PwIRp-say0Cza9fI
Beautiful trai. Very inspiring ride, thanks for showing it.
Thank you very much! 😊
🇨🇦 great video Thomas. I’d love to see you set up camp and pack the next morning, perhaps in speed mode. It would add a fun element to your videos. So many animals. I was riding a trail this summer and three small yappy dogs didn’t stay behind their fence and chased me about 5 minutes, barking at my feet. Thankfully your encounters were less eventful ☺️
It's a great trail I enjoyed the ride. Check out some of my other videos of my setup and getting ready for the ride. Thank you for watching and have a great weekend 😊
I’ll look for them , thanks
Question: I know I saw your video about getting off at the Glacier Amtrak stop. We have been trying to book our bikes on that route, but can’t. How did you take your bike?
I didn't have a problem booking a bike along with my ticket but you have to book early. Those long distance routes are sold out quickly. How early you tried to book, bike spaces are limited.
@@FollowThomas for September 2024
@@pattylabbe6913 that's plenty of time. When you book the ticket then you have an option to add a bike to your ticket. If you already booked then call Amtrak customer service and ask them to include a bike to your trip.
It’s insane how EMPTY that trail is. Not fair.
Not many people on the trail. It was a beautiful ride. 👍
no one said life was fair
@@eddiew2325 not talking about life, just the trail.
Sadly only a tiny percentage of the population capable of doing this.
Never realized how lush NY was til I went to Portugal for 1 week and came back to this
The state of New York is very pretty, so many waterfalls, canyons, rivers, gorgeous places.
When I read history books regarding Henry Hudson in the early Dutch settlers in New York, the green lush force were constantly talked about in their writings
@@tterb777 I actually looked up Henry Hudson audiobooks and going to listen while riding long distance. 👍
"Oh no, Canada geese!"
They're like small dinosaurs. Terrible stuff.
They can be wishceous when protecting their little ones.
Love this! Great video!
Thank you!
Have you ridden between palapa and palm coast?
You mean Palatka and Palm Coast? I've done part of it but I'm planning to go back and ride Old Brick Road

thanks.. Love it!
Thanks for watching. Glad you loved it!
Lovely, when did you do this?
At the end of September about a month after my Erie Canal Trail ride.

Great to see you stopped at DaddyO's. They are very bicycle friendly and allow anyone to park in their lot and ride the trail. I always stop their for a meal after we ride either the Maybrook or Dutchess trails. I also recommend Country Kitchen in Brewster.
This is amazing!
It's a great trail. 👍
