The Forgotten 200 year old Wesley House in the Mountains of Pennsylvania

- This incredible old house has had many alterations and updates and remodels throughout the years! The house originally began as a simple 2 story 3 bay wide stone house built in the early 1800’s around 1820-1830. But as was very common, as the family grew the house was added onto and in the attic of the house you can see the original stone roof wall and attic window of the first house. Then another full 2 bays were added onto the house in stone as well, and a large porch was put on the front side. For a good 50 years in the early 1900’s the house sat empty until a couple bought the stone ruins essentially giving it a full 70’s overhaul using the bones of the old house as a base! Still very pretty on the outside! From what I was told has been empty since the early 2000’s. Thanks for watching!
I just wanna say that I absolutely love the way you film these homes. You stand out amongst other TH-camrs. Not only do you take your time filming every inch of the house, but I enjoy it when you just pause for a moment and allow the viewer to scope out the room. I always have to rewind and pause with other people, but you are spot on when it comes to waiting. I also fall asleep to your videos because of how relaxing they are. Kappy, you do such a great Job finding these houses! I love how you look at handles and different things that would be amazing to still have in houses now. It’s like back then everything was made to look beautiful, like that huge mansion you did from a Tobacco tycoon and that greenhouse omg I would be so bless to live in a house like that! I hope you can go back there again. I’ll have to edit this to add the title of that video because that along with other houses you’ve done are just so breathtaking! Keep up the great work Kappy! I love the first house from the beautiful rock exterior, to the large window sills and the untouched attic. I especially liked that the previous owner took all their belongings leaving empty rooms allowing one to get a good look at this historic home. Thanks for showing us a second house which has its own charm.

First house -- SO GORGEOUS underneath all the updates. The beautiful original beams, the strong, thick stonework. This could be restored!

Cheesy paneling, drop ceilings & orange carpet… my FAVORITE! Lol KIDDING! 😂
The first house was a stately old mansion looking home!!! Even though it was remodeled several times from it’s origin! I loved the natural stone that it was made of!!! The last remodel was in th the 70s, as evident by the use of all of the paneling!!! The cobwebs were caused by it not being sealed well!!! Bugs, spiders & vines could get right in! I think that it would be salvageable for another remodel 👍💕 The second house was a typical worker house! Basic with lots of plain bedrooms! Sooo very much gorgeous, reusable beams & stone to be reused in a remodel or new build!!! The doors & hardware should absolutely be saved, as they are priceless & irreplaceable!!! Cobweb home was amazing. It looked so huge from the outside but actually wasn’t that big inside. Those fireplaces 😮. Gotta love having a window seat in every window(that’s how I’d enjoy them). Such history in those homes. If only walls could talk. Thanks Kappy

Both of these beautiful old homes scream save me ......200 years old and the first one looks that good is amazing. If homes built today were left abandoned for 4 years they wouldn't look this good . That second story porch was amazing and I just love that barn....hopefully these will get the second chance they deserve. Great video as alway's Kappy !! 👍👍

Hi Kappy. It's nice to see some homes that have not been vandalized and graffitied. Just natural decay. The metal roofs have also helped preserve them and kept them from collapsing in on themselves.
Love ur accent. (Canada here) A "steewn hawse" lol. That stuff in the ceiling joists of the first house is vermiculite insulation. Ur videos are awesome btw. Super cool

Oh my! That second house basement and that big ol coal furnace! Much like the one my folks had in their old house , that got converted to gas later on. It was HUGE! The house even had a coal room with a chute the coal was delivered down,

The first house still looks very sturdy and in great condition compared to some of the homes you’ve been in. The second one is salvageable as well but the first is my kinda place, stone! Beautiful, thank you

Kappy, how do you keep finding these old houses? Are people contacting you asking you to walk through and film them so it can be posted on TH-cam? You just keep finding these amazing historical places.... I'm hooked on your channel. I love seeing the craftsmanship and skill the old-time carpenters and masons had in building these homes. It's no wonder why most of them have stood for 200 years or longer. And to think, these homes were build using simple hand tools and mostly without nails.

I used to get on g-maps and just pick out an region and just follow the roads'. At times', just go for a long drive and just happen to spot a place, scope it out and explore....

@@manofreedom oh yeah, I watch out for those. I actually had the opportunity to actually walk with the landowners a few times. I told them what I do as a hobby and I love exploring history.

I love the attic! It's so cool, windows and A frame rafters.
The first house could easily be a house here in Scotland with all the stone and thick walls. Pity it was stripped of all its charm in the early 1970's renovation. Traces of its beauty still peek through in the attic and around the fireplace. It's lovely, but it would cost a fortune to bring it up to code. The spiderwebs gave it an eerie atmosphere. 🕸 🕸

Loved that first house, those cobwebs tho, yikes. All that 70s paneling would need to go far, far away. Funky, quirky renovations but it could be fun working with them. Those fireplaces! The second place had some big rooms for a tenant farm home. The barn was amazing. Thanks, Kappy
First house has great bones...with circa 1960s desecration! Maybe the spiders have discouraged vandals. Could be saved but proximity to road is discouraging. 2nd house interesting too but look pretty fragile. Thanks for the tours! Idea...wear hazmat protection before entering some of these places!

Loved the stone house - would be nice to see it restored to pre-remuddle charm. The second house was interesting too- I believe that was a gravity furnace in the basement. The key-hole door was fascinating - thank you for another fine video!

Loved the views from the stone house. It needs to be restored back to it's original form. And the barn is amazing! That's what I'm looking for. I'll be retiring soon and I'd like to find a nice old place to remodel as my last project and just do woodworking.

That first house was really neat. I liked the remodel on the first floor with the mixture of old and new. They probably really enjoyed fixing it up. Too bad we can't go back in time and see the house as it was originally. It is so unique.

Lead paint everywhere. What beautiful old strong lumber these houses were built with. Is a shame to see them dilapidated.

Cool old house
So much work in these 2 houses. The 1st one looked big from the outside but inside it seems kind of small rooms. I hate seeing the updates. Takes away from the charm imo. So cool seeing the dowels they used to put it together. The second place was in a little worse shape. Still an awesome find. The stove in the kitchen was like the one I had back in the early 80's. That back burner was great for soups, stews and chilli. I loved it! Wish I still had one. Well, Mr Kappy, another great video as usual. Thanks for taking me along! (OH, and I know Mz Ruby would be glad you got pictures of the wall paper!!) Until next time....

With the first house, nice to see all newer windows and the roof and mostly newer doors throughout, if you were to look between the pains of glass, there would have been a date of manufacturing, give you an idea of when they did the upgrades.
At the second house, that old barn looked cool.
stone and a good roof they can last forever - looks like it wouldn't take forever to make it liveable

This house really has been remodeled in odd places and unexplainable ways. I wonder what it looked like before they started!
Some of the doors look to be original to the first construction, but some leave me guessing.

The stones in that closed off fireplace are enormous! I'd like to have seen what it looked like behind the board.

This house is a well-preserved snapshot of early nineteenth construction. It's too bad someone spent their money trying to bring this proud beauty into the twentieth!

The wallpaper almost looks like it was pulled from the walls. There doesn't seem to be much water damage, though, so this one will probably stand.
Good explores, Kappy! Both of these houses are in remarkably good condition, the first due to its sound construction and remodel, the second thanks to its roof!
Thanks for scouting this out for us! I don't know how you keep finding them, but I hope your supply of abandoned houses never ends.
Come to think of it, there's a board up old house on a very old road in our city. Judging from its exterior, the house would date to the early nineteenth century and the road is even older. If you're ever in East Tennessee, you might want to check that one out.

The second house had some interesting points, the stove was in front of the window, the old heater in 22:16 the basement .
The first house is a gorgeous old house to bad someone doesn't restore it back to its original condition.
Wow, other than being so close to the road there didn't look like anything was wrong with it. I bet it stayed pretty cool in the summer and warm in the winter. in fact being so thick I doubt you could hear the traffic. Awesome job as usually Kappy. I can' tell you read the comments because I believe you do the best filming of these old homes.
The attic stairway in the stone house reminded me of the one we had which went up to a bedroom where my son slept. Ours was called a "bank" house because the first floor was built into the bank. This house had a similar design. I can see why you thought you were in the basement/kitchen. The mold was so intense there, too, probably due to lack of light and the dampness.
When we go to sell our house in Michigan, I will let you know. It isn’t an old house, but it has all the wildlife and picturesque views you are so fond of.

Always something different to see. I’m gonna have see what I can find on keyhole doors. I loved that gothic look on that barn at the end. Maybe that bird wanted to eat some spiders. Not a fan of spiders. That stone wall in the attic was really neat. Thanks and stay safe!

The first wouldn't take a lot to renovate. You need to add another bathroom. You the attic make them couple rooms.
The second house would need more work. But has more to work with. In the basement. That wasn't a stall. That was used to store coal for the furnace.

Kappy, that place looked like it was studio backlot set for a horror movie from 1976, with the pleathora of cobwebs. I agree with Donna, the place has good bones, beautiful stone walls, but man those 1970s remodels need to go pronto. Ya, that would be a great place to restore and live in if it was done properly. The problem is you get people who have next to no money, no carpentry skills, no design skills, then they hack these places up, and walk away leaving a mess. Let me guess Kappy, your not a big fan of cobwebs. But of course you nailed it once again as you do every week Kappy. The stone house is gorgeous and looks very saveable. Someone has put in new windows and a new metal roof in the last 20 or so years. Not sure why this one has set empty, usually these stone houses in downstate PA go for a pretty penny in just about any condition. If I were about 30 years younger I would be down for fixing this beauty up.
That first house looks totally savable, wonder why it is abandoned. Are they going to tear down the second one with the fence around it.
In the NE where its Cold Cold Cold in the Winter people fix up an old house like this and live in it. In the South they can't handle it.
