When I was growing up we had a refrigerator just like the first one you showed. I always look forward to your videos. I am 72 years old and I see so many familiar things in these old houses. Brings back so many good memories for me. You always seem to appreciate and have so much respect for all the homes that you video.
Imagine being a weary traveler in the 1800's, this must have been a sight for tired eyes. The porch was probably a wrap around that had room for several chairs/swings. There likely was a large dining table that could seat several guests, and most meals were probably served buffet style at the table. The piano in the large parlor would have been a source of nightly entertainment, there may have been a sing-a-long every night. The fact that those stained glass windows are still intact after 200+ years is amazing, thanks Ruby & Kappy see you next week!
This old home is beautiful, and cleaned out. That icebox was spotless, lots and lots of antiques. If walls could talk. Lot's of memories. I love it. Kappy and Ruby for all y'all do. You both are amazing.❤️💙
The place def deserves to be restored. The rooms are really too small for a bed and breakfast but wouldn't take much imagination to put it back in a useful state for say a small guest lodge or even a seasonal retreat of sorts in the summers and lodge hunters during the hunting seasons. It does have a money making potential.
This was one large house. I loved seeing all of the beautiful wooden doors that have stood the test of time. For this 81 year old it was a treat to see the appliances in the kitchen, bought back some memories for me as a child growing up. I did notice the tub had different feet vs a claw foot tub. I was thinking as you were filming what in the world did they do to heat those rooms! The wooden floors in the layout pattern was awesome. A shout out to Ruby as the two of you are a great team. Thanks again for all you do to bring us memories of days of old.
Nice to see an old house that wasn't renovated at any point and still has a lot of old things in it. Those toilets were from the 1920's-30's, they are for sale online for around $1000. I thought that old dark pantry was awesome, probably the most original part of the house along with the kitchen. I would love to have seen a closer look at the old dishes and stuff.
Well, unfortunately they lowered the ceiling and covered the downstairs wall with cheap panelling. Most of the rooms were empty. There were very few antiques remaining in this boarding house.

Wherever this is , it is a hidden gem . No graffiti, no kids breaking everything.. I wish all abandoned places were this nice . But , kids ruin everything.. they destroy everything that doesn't belong to them .
@@wendycrawford1792 The grand prize antique itself is the entire property and hotel. It would be a fabulous summer lodge to run & take in vacationing guests... I stayed in a place much like that in upstate New Hampshire kind of a remote area. The lodge had just opened & advertised for hunters. There was a one large hand carved bar in the downstairs and a dining area whereas I got to meet other hunters and we sort of all met got along and hunted a spot together. I got a huge deer that 1st year thanks to this older guy inviting me into his party made up of him his two sons and a two grand sons. By the end of the week it was almost like we were all a family and we still get together and hunt there. its the atmosphere the place is kept extremely clean and it is kept a pleasant warm temp so after hunting all day and warm shower the warm downstairs atmosphere the huge old fireplace & antiques all over just wins you over keeps me coming back when I can afford to leave my life and go. Meeting my old friends there is also another part of all of it... The memories we have of each other sharing our past years pictures instead of FB and crap we print the pictures and toss em around to each other.
The old refrigerator looked in prime condition considering its age. Today, a collector would pay good money to recuse it. The old stove has value too; I loved the timer feature on the oven.
i was just watching and enjoying the video and when you opened the cabinet and the shelf paper was an old newspaper, i was excited to see the date...... it is my exact birthday!! Wha? kind of freaked me out. I was amazed at the beautiful doors and woodwork, flooring etc. so cool!
The word stunning doesn’t do this home justice. The stained glass is gorgeous and the woodwork! Laaaaawd just let me hit the lotto! Lol! Bet this place was buzzing with life and activity back in it's prime !! Imagine the people coming and going in and out if only the walls could tell us there stories . I bet this was a real Gem to see in her time . That big old coal/wood stove upstairs was cool to see !! The stained glass was pretty !! Really neat video Kappy !!

Just imagine now that this old world charm is almost all gone being replaced by cheap plastic everything its amazing how people are noticing mourning the loss of that charm. The place needs to be restored if U ask me. It would make a cool summer retreat and winter hunting lodge if U ask me.
The wood floors are so beautiful, someone could take the floors out and make lots of money. It's. a shame no one could fix this beautiful old home up to it's beautiful self. It would take a ton of money to do it, just like Kappy said earlier.❤️
Really interesting explore. Someone removed all the baseboard, door frames, and doors with hardware. Yet all that beautiful stained glass remains! No one’s broken them , or graffitied up the walls.
Those old coal stokers can put out some real heat probably was used to heat that whole upstairs. Only thing is the constant pain in the ass hauling coal up and ashes down.

That original kitchen complete with antique stove and appliances was amazingly intact and really cool! I do have a suggestion though: that kitchen sink was really special but you barely showed a glimpse of it from across the room. I have a fascination with vintage sinks, appliances, toilets and fixtures, but you rarely give us a close look at them. In the future could you make it a point to give us a better look at those items? And go into the bathrooms and pan around to show the sinks and toilets. Would be much appreciated! Thanks! I also noticed most of the baseboard trim, doorframes and doors had been removed, but seemed to be just stacked up in other rooms. Wonder what that was about? PS...I noticed you didn't close the lid over the piano keys or close the cupboard where the old newspaper was. Would be nice to see those things closed to protect them. Wonderful video!! But I agree with regard to the kitchen sink and having a closer look at it! I was also fascinated by what appeared to be a sink in the adjoining pantry. Those were the days when nobody cared if the drainpipes were vented; "S" traps all the way. I would have loved to see a close up of that...never have seen anything like that before!
LOL you're not the only one that loves old kitchen and bathroom fixtures. Unfortunately, Kappy doesn't focus on those things very much. He missed the antique toilet on the second floor that was to the right of the bathroom with the tub and sink. I started to collect old fixtures hoping one day to use them. I have about 10 amazing complete toilets from the 1920s and before, that are like new, as well as 10 or 11 sinks of all sorts. They'll probably get dumped when I drop dead.
What jobs were around there where they needed a boarding house in the town, It is such a big place. That oven and refrigerator in the kitchen were a sight to see. They were gorgeous. The way the floor is laid out is beautiful. How many rooms were there? It is a shame that it is in this condition. Our past is being ruined by mold and neglect. Wow even rooms to board in the third floor. thank you for the tour. I enjoyed this one.
This is not a house. It’s a boarding house with customers. Care takers provided for the guests. Remembering it’s a boarding house the lay out makes perfect sense.
Kappy! I love this house…mainly because of childhood memories or something! I am 75…and there was a similiar house in my town, a lot of friends lived over the years. It was called the Pennsylvania house, think it was built as a rooming house for the railroad people…anyway …wonderful memories….I hated to see it torn down. the tiny rooms, only big enough for half bed and a dresser…and thank you for looking at newspaper..from a time I was a teenager. Thanks for the memories..from the hills of WV.

Hello, sweet Ruby Girl! So glad to hear your voice, dear! Keeping the boy on the straight and narrow, huh? I enjoy it immensely when you come along. You open every door and explore every nook and cranny just like I long to do! Way to go, Ruby! Curiosity is underrated! Keep up the shameless snooping, for I greatly enjoy seeing the house through your eyes, as well as Kappy's! This house looks to be immense! Hope you brought extra batteries, Kappy! It's a wonder this house hasn't been stripped bare or covered with graffiti with its proximity to a busy road! It's in remarkable condition! The woodstove in the kitchen is a gem and worth a lot in its apparently pristine state. My husband speaks of searching for wood for his Mama's stove when he was a child in Puerto Rico, some eighty years ago. Huh! You missed the fact that there's a hasp for a padlock on the outside of the kitchen door! The lady of the house must've had trouble with people sneaking into the kitchen and wanting midnight snacks! Um, I think I'd skip that basement, Kappy! Yeesh! That's the picture from the dictionary next to the word "creepy!" You're absolutely correct, Kappy. That is, indeed, a parquet (pronounced parkay) floor. A floor having a pattern of inset pieces of different types of wood is called a marquetry (pronounced mar-KET-ry) floor. The last is generally more expensive due to the time involved to cut the pieces and then fit them together, though both types of flooring are generally more costly than straight-run wooden floors. Good eye, Kappy! Ruby, the giant clothespin on a stand was for messages for the boarders. The large wraparound room was likely a suite, with a sitting area and several sleeping areas. The large pile of cast iron headboards and footboards I saw in the parlor area shows that this was a no-frills establishment. In a place this large, they could likely accommodate many types of travelers, even people with families. This place would've been really pretty in its day. The wallpaper is very nice, the woodwork and carpentry are well done. Even the linen closet, the small room with all the shelves, is well constructed. The parquet floors are very nicely laid. All in all, this was probably a well-appointed boarding house, no doubt the best in town! It might even have been considered to be a hotel back then! A number of the doors are plainly numbered, which would definitely speak to this place being either a boarding house or a hotel. Judging by the various water stains on the modern drop ceilings, this place has a SERIOUSLY leaky roof! I'm always impressed by your thoughtfulness, Kappy! Going first up the stairs to make sure they're safe for Ruby is so sweet! My own dear husband watches over me as carefully. It makes me feel so special! That is, indeed, an old and possibly very dangerous electrical box from days gone by. It's best to leave it well alone! That shot of the long hall of doors belongs in a Twilight Zone episode! You're right about this house. It would be cheaper and easier to rebuild it than to repair it. A half million would just get you started on this one. If it were mine, I'd have a crew come in to salvage anything and everything usable, i.e., the woodwork, windows, flooring, lumber, doors, antique appliances and kitchen and bath fixtures, along with any usable antique furniture, then I would allow the local fire department to come in, like that little house we explored a couple of years ago, and prepare it for their practice burning. Then I would watch what happened when they torched this grand old girl. What a glorious blaze she would make! After that great conflagration had been extinguished, I'd have the debris cleared and start again. This time, though, I'd build a school/home for the kids who age-out of the foster care system and wind up on the streets. This building's layout would lend itself greatly to that particular dream of mine. Aren't you glad there are no stairs to the attic? I would be, for sure! There is no sign of a fire having occurred, so that bubbling on the floor may be from water coming in and damaging the linseed oil which was applied to protect floors back then. The amount of water damage to this house is just heartbreaking! The roof has clearly been failing for the last century! Wow, a newspaper from 1963! I was five years old! I think the weird little closet you found is the maid's closet, where she would keep cleaning supplies, brooms and mops, etc. to save her having to carry all those things up and down stairs. She was likely a woman of a much lower class, hence the little toilet. It just wouldn't do to share a toilet with a maid! Guests simply wouldn't hear of such an indignity! My great aunt and her husband owned and operated a large long-term boarding house in Palatka, Florida. It is long gone now, as the land upon which it stood was far more valuable than the memories it held. This house reminded me of that place. Thanks for that. Aunt Molly and Uncle Franklin were some really nice people. I loved them. This was a very interesting explore, Kappy, and it offered a long, thoughtful look into travel during the nineteenth century. Having Ruby along made it even more interesting, as her courageous spirit allows her to investigate the little dark corners which others might not want to look into. I'm glad you came on this trip, Ruby dear. You know, Ruby was the name of one of my grandmothers. My other grandmother was named Violet. Lovely ladies, both of them. I loved them and I miss them. I'm really looking forward to what you have planned for us next week, Kappy. It's always fun to explore with you. By the way, I'm progressing well with my recovery. I've gotten over the bronchitis and beaten an infection in my bladder (it seems that the antibiotics the doctor prescribed for my lungs killed the good bacteria in my bladder and set up a perfect place for a colony of bad bacteria!) It would be nice to see a You Tube group form to save these old gems preserve them. There is still money to be made from summer retreats to hunting seasons. I'm a retired carpenter and would love to have a whack at helping restore that place. It would need a big whack on the roof first but not impossible to restore the place. It would be a nice project for some years to come.
If U come across any Kittens one of my little pals just lost his best friend of 8 years and he has been affected with nobody to play with. I have been looking locally came up empty handed the last entire year.

I can see this house was a beauty in its day. That old stove, doors and claw foot tub are valuable today. The black mold is taking it over sadly. What a shame to see these old beauties go to waste. Hope the doors are salvaged.
That's why they and the frames were stripped off. It looks like a salvage company bought the structure and cleaning it out of anything of value before it's burned down or pulled down with tractors.
Sadly, some homes are so neglected that there's no saving them. that bubbled flooring in the upstairs is caused by the old varnish they used, without occasional sanding and replacing, it bubbles up, and I'll guess that upstairs was stifling in the summer, back in the day. Great video, hi Ruby!
Yes. Shellac was often used on hardwood flooring as a durable, glossy finish. Since it just sealed the top of the flooring, moisture from the wood and temperature variations can cause the shellac to separate from the surface wood in flakey nubs.
Sometimes that bubbling isn't the varnish at all. It can be the results of replacing a pine floor and not letting the wood season. Pine flooring needs to be kept heated for a few years before it can used as flooring if not the finish on it does bubble. There also could have been a high heat in that room which will also cause a floor to bubble up like U said especially if it was refinished with out sanding and proper drying agent in the varnish.

This place is an antique lovers dream. It's on a main road not deep in the woods with all this great stuff still in there like the Stained glass windows, iron headboards, steamer trunk, beautiful old stove and refrigerator, bottles, iron wood stove, etc...weird nobody hasn't backed a truck up to this bldg.
The giant clothespin is a recipe holder. As your hands are full of flour and dough, sugar etc.; you don't have to look it up, you can simply look at the card attached and closer to eye level. Very convenient.
Thanks for taking the time to video these amazing homes and business' The stove in kitchen is the same color of the Roper gas stove I have. The handle on oven is the temperature and timer. It's sad we don't do more to preserve these cultural heritage homes.

Aww your girl is with you! That kitchen is a step back in time. The hole in the bathroom floor was to pass extra toilet paper through. The old heating system is cool! I remember those fuses. We used to have a tub like that too. Wow, even an old wringer washer. We had one of those too when I was a younger man. Very cool Kappy!

I love it when you can find out a little bit of the history on a place you are exploring. The newspapers are an awesome find. From the looks of the missing "mop boards" trim on the second and 3rd floors, someone was going to salvage what they could. Wonder why they stopped? Mz Ruby has a good eye for doing this too. The linoleum was really nice and I'm glad she pointed it out. Just think of all the people coming and going from this place back in the day. It's great that a whole lot of updating wasn't done. wow this is like going thru my aunt and uncles house back as a kid, after the big wood stoves for cooking moved out i am 57, my family was in canada, boy i would have loved to see this house when it was a HOME, often huge houses bacame roomming houses when a husband died, amazinglfind.
WOW! Would I love to have that old stove! What a beauty and a treasure! 13:00 that's not fire damage. Some of the old lacquers used to put a gloss on wood would often bubble like that if exposed to lots of sunlight. What an interesting place, and not yet beyond repair. Great tour. Thanks.
When I was a kid adults would ask if we were raised in a barn if we misbehaved. This place has a definite barn shape. So I could see a kid say yup I was raised in a barn.
Hi, Kappy and Ruby! What a cool Dutch Colonial. All that lovely wood...wonder where the original fireplaces were? Must've been cool upstairs, and glacial on the less expensive upper floor! Thanks for the tour!
The metal cabinet to the right of the refrigerator is an original old fashioned ice box. One large block of ice, bought from the ice man, or a distribution locker, would keep food cool for a week. For a while the newer late 40s/50s fridges were still called ice boxes, probably to sell them better. What you called a basement was then referred to as a cellar, and used for storage of coal for the furnace. Several things indicate that there was a total remodeling done in the 1950s. The wallpaper is straight out of that era, as well as the refrigerator. Its freezer had to be defrosted regularly, to prevent excessive ice build up, using pans of hot water placed in it to melt the ice faster. Lastly, this house was built during the gaslight era. Before remodeling there would have been gas jet outlets in the walls of every room. They have all been covered up. On a side note, it's interesting that the old claw foot tubs were often kept, even after a remodeling. They were so much better for soaking in than our smaller more modern ones.

What a beautiful home! I didn’t notice any heating except for the stove on the second floor! There is a quilt pattern called Trip Around the World that is identical to the wooden floor pattern you saw on the first floor. I don’t know if it would be the same name. As for that little panel you opened under the stairs, they were all electrical breakers! This was a wonderful video and I’m glad to see Ruby again! Thank you and be safe!
9:03 this is a fuse box with fuses. The floor does not have fire damage, thats just the old finish cracking, I have old furniture that looks like that too.
Beautiful! My house has the same wood floor pattern and stained glass. The biggest reason I said yes to buying it! Im in love with the cook stove/ oven. That color is gorgeous.

Thankyou for sharing. I was glad to have the chance to see this interesting, character-full, old place. The little narrow room with the sink & storage shelves, was a scullery for washinģ dishes such as cookware, preparing vegetables & cleaning brass, copper & silver items etc. They tended to do the rougher & dirtier kitchen work in the scullery. While they might wash the delicate tea dishes in the kitchen.
“Ancient” varnish bubbles like that. There are a lot of 19th century pianos with finish that has turned that way. Seeing those old appliances and that set of canisters to me says nobody has lived there since the 60s. I’ll bet a lot of lives and stories have passed through that house. Meeting my old friends there is also another part of all of it... The memories we have of each other sharing our past years pictures instead of FB and crap we print the pictures and toss em around to each other.
The dropped ceilings and wood stripping aren't even close to original. That stained glass room gives me a 70s vibe.

The old refrigerator looked in prime condition considering its age. Today, a collector would pay good money to recuse it. The old stove has value too; I loved the timer feature on the oven.
i was just watching and enjoying the video and when you opened the cabinet and the shelf paper was an old newspaper, i was excited to see the date...... it is my exact birthday!! Wha? kind of freaked me out. I was amazed at the beautiful doors and woodwork, flooring etc. so cool!

I loved seeing this old boarding house. It may be old but to me it is absolutely beautiful, from the layout to the floors to the still intact stained glass windows. What a great find! Thanks for documenting this old treasure and for sharing!
Just imagine now that this old world charm is almost all gone being replaced by cheap plastic everything its amazing how people are noticing mourning the loss of that charm. The place needs to be restored if U ask me. It would make a cool summer retreat and winter hunting lodge if U ask me.

The wood floors are so beautiful, someone could take the floors out and make lots of money. It's. a shame no one could fix this beautiful old home up to it's beautiful self. It would take a ton of money to do it, just like Kappy said earlier.❤️

Really interesting explore. Someone removed all the baseboard, door frames, and doors with hardware. Yet all that beautiful stained glass remains! No one’s broken them , or graffitied up the walls.

That stove needs to be restored that is a treasure.
Those old coal stokers can put out some real heat probably was used to heat that whole upstairs. Only thing is the constant pain in the ass hauling coal up and ashes down.

That original kitchen complete with antique stove and appliances was amazingly intact and really cool! I do have a suggestion though: that kitchen sink was really special but you barely showed a glimpse of it from across the room. I have a fascination with vintage sinks, appliances, toilets and fixtures, but you rarely give us a close look at them. In the future could you make it a point to give us a better look at those items? And go into the bathrooms and pan around to show the sinks and toilets. Would be much appreciated! Thanks! I also noticed most of the baseboard trim, doorframes and doors had been removed, but seemed to be just stacked up in other rooms. Wonder what that was about?
PS...I noticed you didn't close the lid over the piano keys or close the cupboard where the old newspaper was. Would be nice to see those things closed to protect them. I really enjoy your videos & always look forward to them!
Wonderful video!! But I agree with regard to the kitchen sink and having a closer look at it! I was also fascinated by what appeared to be a sink in the adjoining pantry. Those were the days when nobody cared if the drainpipes were vented; "S" traps all the way. I would have loved to see a close up of that...never have seen anything like that before!
LOL you're not the only one that loves old kitchen and bathroom fixtures. Unfortunately, Kappy doesn't focus on those things very much. He missed the antique toilet on the second floor that was to the right of the bathroom with the tub and sink. I started to collect old fixtures hoping one day to use them. I have about 10 amazing complete toilets from the 1920s and before, that are like new, as well as 10 or 11 sinks of all sorts. They'll probably get dumped when I drop dead.
What jobs were around there where they needed a boarding house in the town, It is such a big place. That oven and refrigerator in the kitchen were a sight to see. They were gorgeous. The way the floor is laid out is beautiful. How many rooms were there? It is a shame that it is in this condition. Our past is being ruined by mold and neglect. Wow even rooms to board in the third floor. thank you for the tour. I enjoyed this one.

This is not a house. It’s a boarding house with customers. Care takers provided for the guests. Remembering it’s a boarding house the lay out makes perfect sense.

Kappy! I love this house…mainly because of childhood memories or something! I am 75…and there was a similiar house in my town, a lot of friends lived over the years. It was called the Pennsylvania house, think it was built as a rooming house for the railroad people…anyway …wonderful memories….I hated to see it torn down. the tiny rooms, only big enough for half bed and a dresser…and thank you for looking at newspaper..from a time I was a teenager. Thanks for the memories..from the hills of WV.

The woodstove in the kitchen is a gem and worth a lot in its apparently pristine state. My husband speaks of searching for wood for his Mama's stove when he was a child in Puerto Rico, some eighty years ago.
Huh! You missed the fact that there's a hasp for a padlock on the outside of the kitchen door! The lady of the house must've had trouble with people sneaking into the kitchen and wanting midnight snacks!

You're absolutely correct, Kappy. That is, indeed, a parquet (pronounced parkay) floor. A floor having a pattern of inset pieces of different types of wood is called a marquetry (pronounced mar-KET-ry) floor. The last is generally more expensive due to the time involved to cut the pieces and then fit them together, though both types of flooring are generally more costly than straight-run wooden floors. Good eye, Kappy!
Ruby, the giant clothespin on a stand was for messages for the boarders.
The large wraparound room was likely a suite, with a sitting area and several sleeping areas. The large pile of cast iron headboards and footboards I saw in the parlor area shows that this was a no-frills establishment.
In a place this large, they could likely accommodate many types of travelers, even people with families.
This place would've been really pretty in its day. The wallpaper is very nice, the woodwork and carpentry are well done. Even the linen closet, the small room with all the shelves, is well constructed. The parquet floors are very nicely laid. All in all, this was probably a well-appointed boarding house, no doubt the best in town! It might even have been considered to be a hotel back then!
A number of the doors are plainly numbered, which would definitely speak to this place being either a boarding house or a hotel.
Judging by the various water stains on the modern drop ceilings, this place has a SERIOUSLY leaky roof!

You're right about this house. It would be cheaper and easier to rebuild it than to repair it. A half million would just get you started on this one. If it were mine, I'd have a crew come in to salvage anything and everything usable, i.e., the woodwork, windows, flooring, lumber, doors, antique appliances and kitchen and bath fixtures, along with any usable antique furniture, then I would allow the local fire department to come in, like that little house we explored a couple of years ago, and prepare it for their practice burning. Then I would watch what happened when they torched this grand old girl. What a glorious blaze she would make!
After that great conflagration had been extinguished, I'd have the debris cleared and start again. This time, though, I'd build a school/home for the kids who age-out of the foster care system and wind up on the streets. This building's layout would lend itself greatly to that particular dream of mine.

There is no sign of a fire having occurred, so that bubbling on the floor may be from water coming in and damaging the linseed oil which was applied to protect floors back then. The amount of water damage to this house is just heartbreaking! The roof has clearly been failing for the last century!
Wow, a newspaper from 1963! I was five years old! I think the weird little closet you found is the maid's closet, where she would keep cleaning supplies, brooms and mops, etc. to save her having to carry all those things up and down stairs. She was likely a woman of a much lower class, hence the little toilet. It just wouldn't do to share a toilet with a maid! Guests simply wouldn't hear of such an indignity!
My great aunt and her husband owned and operated a large long-term boarding house in Palatka, Florida. It is long gone now, as the land upon which it stood was far more valuable than the memories it held. This house reminded me of that place. Thanks for that. Aunt Molly and Uncle Franklin were some really nice people. I loved them.
This was a very interesting explore, Kappy, and it offered a long, thoughtful look into travel during the nineteenth century. Having Ruby along made it even more interesting, as her courageous spirit allows her to investigate the little dark corners which others might not want to look into. I'm glad you came on this trip, Ruby dear.
You know, Ruby was the name of one of my grandmothers. My other grandmother was named Violet. Lovely ladies, both of them. I loved them and I miss them.

By the way, I'm progressing well with my recovery. I've gotten over the bronchitis and beaten an infection in my bladder (it seems that the antibiotics the doctor prescribed for my lungs killed the good bacteria in my bladder and set up a perfect place for a colony of bad bacteria!) It would be nice to see a You Tube group form to save these old gems preserve them. There is still money to be made from summer retreats to hunting seasons. I'm a retired carpenter and would love to have a whack at helping restore that place. It would need a big whack on the roof first but not impossible to restore the place. It would be a nice project for some years to come.
If U come across any Kittens one of my little pals just lost his best friend of 8 years and he has been affected with nobody to play with. I have been looking locally came up empty handed the last entire year.

What a place in it's day! That stove was made in my hometown; Kalamazoo MI. Company went out decades ago but they made beautiful products.
I can see this house was a beauty in its day. That old stove, doors and claw foot tub are valuable today. The black mold is taking it over sadly. What a shame to see these old beauties go to waste. Hope the doors are salvaged.
That's why they and the frames were stripped off.
It looks like a salvage company bought the structure and cleaning it out of anything of value before it's burned down or pulled down with tractors.
Sadly, some homes are so neglected that there's no saving them. that bubbled flooring in the upstairs is caused by the old varnish they used, without occasional sanding and replacing, it bubbles up, and I'll guess that upstairs was stifling in the summer, back in the day. Great video, hi Ruby!

Yes. Shellac was often used on hardwood flooring as a durable, glossy finish. Since it just sealed the top of the flooring, moisture from the wood and temperature variations can cause the shellac to separate from the surface wood in flakey nubs.
Sometimes that bubbling isn't the varnish at all. It can be the results of replacing a pine floor and not letting the wood season. Pine flooring needs to be kept heated for a few years before it can used as flooring if not the finish on it does bubble. There also could have been a high heat in that room which will also cause a floor to bubble up like U said especially if it was refinished with out sanding and proper drying agent in the varnish.

This place is an antique lovers dream. It's on a main road not deep in the woods with all this great stuff still in there like the Stained glass windows, iron headboards, steamer trunk, beautiful old stove and refrigerator, bottles, iron wood stove, etc...weird nobody hasn't backed a truck up to this bldg.

The giant clothespin is a recipe holder. As your hands are full of flour and dough, sugar etc.; you don't have to look it up, you can simply look at the card attached and closer to eye level. Very convenient.
I was going to say that as well. Now I use a chip clip on my cabinet door handle.😁

The stove in kitchen is the same color of the Roper gas stove I have. The handle on oven is the temperature and timer. It's sad we don't do more to preserve these cultural heritage homes.

That was really great Kappy & Ruby. Still standing, no graffiti,no broken windows, tons of different wallpaper….. I wish those walls could talk. I can only imagine traveling back in the day. We are just a tad spoiled, compared to getting around back then. That trunk didn’t look extremely bad. What a shame that can’t be rescued & restored along with those beautiful stained glass windows. Aww your girl is with you! That kitchen is a step back in time. The hole in the bathroom floor was to pass extra toilet paper through. The old heating system is cool! I remember those fuses. We used to have a tub like that too. Wow, even an old wringer washer. We had one of those too when I was a younger man. Very cool Kappy!

I love it when you can find out a little bit of the history on a place you are exploring. The newspapers are an awesome find. From the looks of the missing "mop boards" trim on the second and 3rd floors, someone was going to salvage what they could. Wonder why they stopped? Mz Ruby has a good eye for doing this too. The linoleum was really nice and I'm glad she pointed it out. Just think of all the people coming and going from this place back in the day. It's great that a whole lot of updating wasn't done. Very interesting place and story. Keep up the good work Kappy.

wow this is like going thru my aunt and uncles house back as a kid, after the big wood stoves for cooking moved out i am 57, my family was in canada, boy i would have loved to see this house when it was a HOME, often huge houses bacame roomming houses when a husband died, amazinglfind.

13:00 that's not fire damage. Some of the old lacquers used to put a gloss on wood would often bubble like that if exposed to lots of sunlight.

When I was a kid adults would ask if we were raised in a barn if we misbehaved. This place has a definite barn shape. So I could see a kid say yup I was raised in a barn.

Both are refrigerators and the knob on stove is the oven thermostat! Would love those in my house!

The Kalamazoo Heat Exchanger is in Excellent condtion and worth quite a bit !! So it the Piano if in fine working order !
The metal cabinet to the right of the refrigerator is an original old fashioned ice box. One large block of ice, bought from the ice man, or a distribution locker, would keep food cool for a week. For a while the newer late 40s/50s fridges were still called ice boxes, probably to sell them better.
What you called a basement was then referred to as a cellar, and used for storage of coal for the furnace.
Several things indicate that there was a total remodeling done in the 1950s. The wallpaper is straight out of that era, as well as the refrigerator. Its freezer had to be defrosted regularly, to prevent excessive ice build up, using pans of hot water placed in it to melt the ice faster.
Lastly, this house was built during the gaslight era. Before remodeling there would have been gas jet outlets in the walls of every room. They have all been covered up.
On a side note, it's interesting that the old claw foot tubs were often kept, even after a remodeling. They were so much better for soaking in than our smaller more modern ones.

What a beautiful home! I didn’t notice any heating except for the stove on the second floor! There is a quilt pattern called Trip Around the World that is identical to the wooden floor pattern you saw on the first floor. I don’t know if it would be the same name. As for that little panel you opened under the stairs, they were all electrical breakers! This was a wonderful video and I’m glad to see Ruby again! Thank you and be safe!
9:03 this is a fuse box with fuses. The floor does not have fire damage, thats just the old finish cracking, I have old furniture that looks like that too.

Thankyou for sharing. I was glad to have the chance to see this interesting, character-full, old place. The little narrow room with the sink & storage shelves, was a scullery for washinģ dishes such as cookware, preparing vegetables & cleaning brass, copper & silver items etc. They tended to do the rougher & dirtier kitchen work in the scullery. While they might wash the delicate tea dishes in the kitchen.
So nice to see that those stained-glass windows haven't been broken out yet 🙂👍

“Ancient” varnish bubbles like that. There are a lot of 19th century pianos with finish that has turned that way.
Seeing those old appliances and that set of canisters to me says nobody has lived there since the 60s. I’ll bet a lot of lives and stories have passed through that house.
