Cast iron sitting outside in rain, snow and every thing else mother nature can through at it for 70 plus years and the bolts thread out without rust. Maybe an idea to coat the wedge surfaces and threads with greases to stop rust as they are being stored outside. I was expecting the battle of heat and hammer swings that scares with the cracking of cast iron. Lucky the impact did not strip the threads out, but in the end a good day.
I live in a very dry environment. The moisture has less impact here than it does. In the East and South. I will cover that pulley anyway to keep moisture off
That is kind of funny. This project wouldn't be worth doing except for the fact that I can get beetle kill pine from the forest service with permits. After spending a lot of years in Oklahoma and Arkansas, it's funny to live in a place that doesn't have a tree on the whole property.
@tractorrescueranch3682 So, we'll soon be seeing you rebuilding a lumberjack's chain saw and a log skidder. Check out Watch Wes Work. He acquired and rebuilt a one-of-a-kind robot log skidder. th-cam.com/video/WUpGnFC0yM4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Bx2LsLdHcb3QTKg8
I have changed many a sheave and sprocket ,with that type of lock wedge. As always I liked and shared. All my very best.
I was not positive that I was pulling that wedge out like I was supposed to but it turned out working how I thought it would.

being cheap is ok but buy a roll of Emery cloth to clean up the shaft first give yourself a fighting chance
The funny thing is we're watching you build a big saw mill, yet i don't see a fellable tree as far as the horizon. ❤
