Unbelievably Easy Boatman Pattern | Tie My Bearded Boatman

Water boatman and their larger backswimmer cousins are excellent patterns in early spring, just after ice off, and again during the fall. When these air-breathing aquatic insects take flight and return to the water, trout often lose their minds. The fishing is often outstanding.
My Bearded Boatman is simple to tie. When trout are targetting water boatmen, this is a pattern you might want to consider adding to your fly box.
Bearded Boatman
Hook: Daiichi 1530 or 1550 #12-#16
Thread: 8/0 or 70 Denier, Red, White or Yellow
Shellback: Rainy's Stretch Flex, 1/8", Reddish Brown
Body: Mirage Opal Mylar, Medium
Beard: Ice Dub, Callibaetis
Legs: Grizzly Micro Legs, Rootbeer:
