I did do a fair amount of welding though on other parts but my main focus was machined parts and engineering. I had a weird role, I was a machinist/welder/fabricator/designer/engineer.. talk about lots of hats to wear! I was going to ask you which gearbox you had in that one, but i read down the comments and you have the Hewland. We used to run Wiseman gearboxes but switched to the Hewland... STA-200 if memory serves... We had re redesign the whole bellhousing, clutch stackup and related hardware when we did that. Did you get that chassis with the Gleason diff or the 9-inch? Some other credits on that car, John Christian, Jim Ikach, Headers by Dave Benkhe, Oil pan by Jeff Tedder, Heads by Lane Breck & John Lahone, Suspension by myself and Rich Reichenbach, Gearbox setup by Dale Atkin, Shocks by Kevin Caparella

Oh the good old days when you could watch the Trans-am series on TNN, I also got to see many trans-am races at Mosport and always loved the sound of these things (20 or so)coming down through turn 4 into Moss on the first lap.
It's a Weismann or Hewland 5-speed H-pattern with dog tooth engagement, hence why the driver doesn't need to clutch when shifting if driving at racing speeds. It's fun to hear them being shifted like sequentials!
@@Vincetagram Well there is a clutch, but once you are rolling you don't need it. you have to match the gear with the engine RPM and the road speed. If you look look at the video, every time he downshifts you will notice that he blips the throttle up at each downshift. He does that so he gets the up RPM up to where he can catch the next gear without grinding. Upshifting is much easier, where you lift off the throttle and shift the gear, its a matter of timing and a strong arm. Its not as easy as he makes it look!
Theres a lot of me in that car! I remember it well, worked many hours on that chassis! Glad someone is taking good care of it!

Wouldnt mind picking your brain about some of this stuff , IE front suspension design on these.

@@almcconahay9064 Sorry just saw this. Lots of things, but if memory serves, 3-link monoball rear suspension, and a Torsen live axle.
The combination of engine and transmission sound is gloriously symphonic.
I currently own an sn-95 and have been obsessed with them all my life so I hope you can understand how I almost cried when I realized these existed

What transmission is that? I don't see the Driver use the Clutch. It certainly has straight cut gears from the sound

Yes, GMP made a 1:18th scale die cast model of this car.
I'm not sure if they did or not, I can go check at the museum and see its just across the street

It has a clutch, but its a non-synchronous gearbox so you have to be a smooth brute!
