You are an amazing martial artist. I would love to learn what you do. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work. You are a gem 💎 in this field. God bless you and all you do.
Pretty good video you should make more have a pair of sai I've had for about 20 years, you make me want to break them out and start back, but of course at 56 I'm not the guy I used to be 😂
@LordRa777 it seems like you still have that fire inside 🙌🏾 it's nothing wrong with that. Even if you don't move as fast as you use to. Do it because you love it 🤷🏾♂️
I am not sure who you are young man. However, I'm subscribed due to your manner in teaching. As a 54 years elder with over 40 years experience... My perceptions have become infected by expectations. I hold my student to an extreme level of technique. Bless your patience. Sai are, in my opinion, the last weapon of skill. Requiring the utmost of skill in precision and technique.
Thank you sir !!! 🙏🏾 I greatly appreciate your kind words. I try my best to teach in a way the everyone can understand. It comes down to the passion. Which I think brings people together.
So regarding the blocking part, you do mention trapping weapons in between the prongs etc, but most of that part is spent talking about holding the weapon in some form of reverse grip. Wouldn't it be much better to always hold it in a forward grip so you can actually use the pointy end and the extra reach? And wouldn't it be really easy to slightly misalign your block causing a sword to either take out half of your arm on the left or right side if your arm? So basically that the sai blade isn't perfectly between your arm and the blade causing you to still get cut.
i just got a set for $3.99 at a thrift store, i spent a couple days polishing out the dings and sharpening them. i looked for a video on how to carry them, like holsters, but that shirt made me click and you instantly taught me to block on the side. excellent video
@@ninjacarter3866 i didn't either, I was going to get them when I thought the tag said 39.99. I wish I hadn't sharpened them before I practiced with them, I had to put globs of hot glue on the tips thank you for posting, i dunno if I already subbed, but I'll make sure to now
They never were a farm tool. That is just common rumor. The real historical evidence shows that it is and was a weapon primarily designed and used for enforcement of law. Similar to the jute. Additionally, people make shifted weapons like these to be used in places where it was illegal to have a blade
I am a second degree black belt in taekwondo (training for third in december) and am looking to create a sais form for demonstrations, tournaments, etc. are there any moves/strikes you would recommend? I just started sais and i’m the only person in my studio that is looking to explore the weapon.
That's awesome, good luck to you!! Keep in mind sais are defensive weapons against swords. Take what I showed you in the video and mix things up for your personal style. You got this!
@@ninjacarter3866 update: I performed my demo for the first time the other day and it went awesome, plus I even had people coming up to me after asking about my sais. Thank you again for all your help!!!
Hi Carter. Could you send me the measurements of your sai gun? The goal is, I'm going to have a pair made for me. However, the blacksmith needs to know exactly the measurements of this weapon to build. I look forward to it...thank you!
The "farming tool" claim is a dubious one. Might have a hint of truth burried somewhere, but historical records show these were common police weapons in southern China and Okinawa, and the jutte, which is basically a 2 pronged sai, was used in mainland japan. What kobudo system do you train? You use some grips Ive never seen used before.
I'm not surprised why outsiders are so influential on film as a reference material. This is because pop culture builds a community culture. However, the truth is, sai is a true weapon, not a farmer's tool that most people tell us. Sai is a real weapon that was used by warriors in the past as far back as the era before the Sri Vijaya era, the use of iron in that era was widespread. Japan's Okinawa timeline is later compared to the Iron Age. This is because at that time the Sundanese continent formed a kingdom and culture for more than 30,000 years. Sai, on the other hand, has spread to several countries after the great flood that followed. So sai is not originally from Japan, please look at other countries in the Malay Archipelago.
He seriously has no idea how to use Sai. He starts off well but grasping your fingers over the tines will lead to amputation of the fingers if they are struck by a Bo or similar. This guy is only full of fancy tricks that would not make it in a fight between a Bo, sword or similar against a Sai. Flashy fool
If I buy a pair of real sai and try to practice what I see here and in other youtube vids, what are the chances that I'll accidentally hurt myself? How badly do people get hurt while just practicing with sai?
@@ninjacarter3866 If I buy a pair of plastic practice sai, I don't need to worry about injuring myself no matter how much i play with them. But if I buy a pair like this, then that should be concern, correct?
Not the way to use the Sai ,also that pair Sai is a junky pair .It is better to invest in a quality Sai,then to waste money on a pair that is substandard Also if you are interested in actually learning proper use of the Sai you should seek a competent instructor..
i love how you criticize the quality of the pair and dont even give any suggestions. and how the hell are they junky anyway its not like a blade, sais are one blunt object for strikes and catching blades...i dont see what your even talking about.
