    Yeah - nice to see more positive points for Pentax. I have been watching a lot of landscape photographers the last couple of years who have all changed to Sony and very recently going on about features like wifi that the K1 has always had. And I watch them with their remote shutters that need to be wired or receiver put on flash mount while Pentax has had the inbuilt ir for remotes since at least the KX. Then they get into astro and buying all the tracking gear while Pentax has the built in with sensor shift... they have actually shown me just how damn good the K1 is for landscapes but yet not one of them use one and Pentax never pushed their camera in advertising which really hurts because there are so many landscape photographers that have no idea how good the k1 is.

      Brett I 100% agree with you on that. So many great features on the K1 and not enough exposure. The price + feature was worthy enough for me to try it out. When I think back on how I got the K1, it was through a website that was talking about Pentax having IBIS , astrotracer and it went on and on and on. I was like holy cow, sign me up LOL. Let me check it out.

      the CameraVille - ha ha👍yes when I nail a good bird shot the 150-450 is so damned sharp! Maybe though and it’s probably the issue with tele photos compared to primes, is not to extend it right out fully to 450mm ? I’m just spoilt in the sharpness of the 300 mm maybe and to have the the flexibility of a Tele you gave to compromise a bit!

      Ross Thurston I absolutely love the 300. It’s a prime and is very sharp. Colour and bokeh are excellent. The 150-450 is also excellent but because of all the extra glass some sharpness is lot, especially at 450. But I guess that’s the price you pay for having the flexibility of a zoom.

    Hi Li, thanks a lot for continuing your line of Pentax-related reviews! For this video: I hesitate to say but in this hawk picture comparison I have difficulties to realize the Pentax-superiority. I think the Sony pic is a little longer exposed. Feathers on the belly … . • @theCameraVille
      @theCameraVille  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Klaus Bartels The hawk wasnt for image quality or for national geographic purposes. It was the demostration of the autofocus as stated in the video. I couldnt get that shot with the Sony in a complex background. The sony lens is brighter due to their high light transmission issue . Previous video we did a test on both body with the same Rokinon and the outcome wasnt as drastic as this. This means somewhere in Sony elments, there is an issue. The key to this review is Sony is charging $500 more for a unit that relies on spraying and praying with a shorter focal distance at 400 mm vs 450mm. Also the other materials that was mentioned with getting dust in the system and battery life. I think we need to sit back and take it in as a whole . Would a person truly spend $500 over on a system link the Sony?

Dxomark rates this lens as the worst in their tests. I suggested him to buy the Sony E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS instead. Less zoom for more quality. He still prefers the 18-200 for more zoom. Does he gonna regret that decision? Do you (or other readers) have suggestions? His total budget is € 1000 or less.

    IMO, there's not a lot of point comparing images from different cameras for things like highlight detail unless you compensate for the variation in effective ISO between the cameras in post so that the images are equally bright. Two cameras can have "the same settings" but one will capture more light than the other, depending on that variance. It is clear from your images that the Sony was shooting brighter than the Pentax, so less highlight detail straight out of camera for the Sony would be unsurprising. Based on some research from Tony Northrup it seems that Pentax 100 ISO (on the K3, at least) captures about 20-30% less light for equivalent ISO on a Sony 6xxx, and to my eye that roughly matches the difference in exposure in your images.
    What is the comparative highlight detail between the images when they are equivalently exposed?

    • @theCameraVille
      @theCameraVille  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Before this video, we did a side by side comparison with both body on the same 3rd party lens and found a different results than this. That was our ground truth before we started this series . I also have images of me tuning down the shutter speed and aperture to compensate the brightness. In the end, I realize the more I kept adjusting it , it wasn't worth to continue to balance the Sony.

    Sony is taking people for a ride. Inflated pricing for lower than expected quality and cameras that are not worth holding on to once the next model is released. Clever marketing for sure, suck them in and then release a slightly better camera in 6 to 12 months. Hyping up that battery draining EVF at the very start was also clever. The EVF is becoming ever so more expensive to produce as the resolution increases yet a glass prism is still the benchmark. But, I don't know what I am talking about so... Great review as always. Question not relating to this video but still new to your channel and wonder if you got a video on why someone should consider Pentax - i think i saw you mentioned that pentax just have a massive selection of lens but what's the future of pentax really and where they are in the general photography business of things or what's the future and what they are going for in their newest cameras. like for example the fuji as a small company is developing their video capabilities as the xt3 is their first solid step in to the genre so i dont really know where pentax is going from that reference haha
    thanks

I dont have one of those yet but I am planning to talk about their future release of the lenses that is coming out in 2020 and this could lead up to things . Alright you have me thinking as well. I do have a few ideas but it will boil down to on how well their next camera is going to do. Let me research~!

      Could be possible and also the image of the Sony tends to be brighter, which is due to the high light transmission issue that I have seen of late. The Nikon Vs Pentax is under way in 2020!

    Put that 100-400 on Sony a6400, 6500 or 6600 and it will deliver the best in class AF.

    • @theCameraVille
      @theCameraVille  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really because they are preparing a new A7000, apsc baby A9. With that in mind, these A6000 series af is very good on large subjects, birds behind simple background but with complexity on moving subject in a busy background, it goes haywire. Also factor in the dust that gets in the camera, the shorter focal distance, 450mm > 400MM and of course the color science and poor dynamic range in the entire A6000 line up, poor battery life, Its safe to say that Sony did this on purpose.
      The new A7000 will be the stable and will be impressive. The A6000 series , It has 4k , eye tracking and other dslr dont. In the end, really up to the shooter on their want and needs.

      @@theCameraVille Sony a9II and a9 are one of the best camera with bird photography, people are taking amazing shots comparable to the Canon 1DX, 7D2, Nikon D500 and D5. • @kamilrakowski23
    @kamilrakowski23 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't like Sony, but there is a something wrong here. The Sony lens is great, but on A9. Sony weighs 1400g and Pentax 2000g. The fact that GM is made for a mirrorless has nothing to do with it. The Sony A6100 is terrible, Sony A6600 is much better, but the sensor is the same(dynamic range is not great). It is more expensive, but who will care about the difference of 300-500$ for body at 2000 -2500$ for the lens. You forgot about one more huge difference. BUFFER DEPTH. about 10 shots - Pentax vs 33 Sony A6100 or 100 shots Sony a6600. The autofocus on the Sony A6600 is clearly better. I switched from d500 and d750 to Oly M1mii. If you want apsc for wildlife or sport then buy d500, not xt3 or sony.For m43 M1mii will be the best choice( much better rhen g9) The lenses are amazing and body is great. There is no difference in IQ if you publish to the web or print A3/A3+ even with iso 6400.
    Please people stop with pixel peeping.

    • @theCameraVille
      @theCameraVille  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This video is based on Apsc as I stated in the video and the weight in mind is a reminder that mirror less system are light in general, cant shoot a photo without a body. I dont think people will go out with just the lens. Its the overall package.
      I think people all have different money issue in investing on glass and not everyone is the same so given the price tag is a real give or take issue. If you take a closer look at the video, I mentioned about the FPS already in the video, which doesnt need anymore in depth conversation about buffer which will lead to SD card and etc. We need to generalize the information because viewers want it short and sweet.
      I totally disagree on you with the D500 because you didnt state a lens with the body, plus you are suggesting a 20 mp camera from 4 years ago by nikon which has dynamic range issue. I sold mines long ago. M43 would be a terrible choice for a pro photographer given the dynamic range issue. I shoot morning to night and I had the olympus before and now the lumix. M43 only shines during good lighting and certain hours of the day. Beginners camera system.
      Your last statement suggest we will all post online only so people need to stop pixel peeping. You clicked on a pixel peeping video. I'm not sure where does the irony starts but it is starting.
