We are currently working on the bioconversion of depolymerized Kraft lignin using different bacteria i.e. we obtain chemically depolymerized lignin from our partners and supply it as a sole carbon source for some bacterial species and check for growth. Later we characterize these bacteria based on the lignin compounds consumed and investigate their biochemical funnelling pathways. We also work on identifying the genes and proteins responsible for such biochemical reactions. This knowledge will be later applied to produce bio-based chemicals from lignin. It can be separated from Cellulose by using chemical treatment for example by Solvent which can improve solubility of Lignin in water, such as caustic soda or Greener Solvent like urea. Soluble lignin can be precipitator using hydrosulphuric acid
