- Crow is out on corvid patrol right next to a pheasant pen, even though it is the middle of the pheasant season. The situation is desperate on his farm as corvids pile in to eat crops and pheasant food. He starts by setting out his decoys in a maize cover crop - but is that the right place?

Why shoot corvids?
Crows and magpies are omnivorous predators and occur across all habitats. They are major predators of ground-nesting birds, waders and song birds, consuming both eggs and young chicks.
Corvid predation particularly impacts thrushes (White, P.J.C., Stoate, C., Szczur, J. & Norris, K.J. 2014)., Research has shown that the populations of curlew, golden plover and lapwing are significantly improved by controlling corvid numbers (GWCT Research Waders on the Fringe 2010).
Crows also predate on lambs and young livestock, and can damage newly-sown cereal crops, particularly in Winter and Spring when other food sources are scarce.

Shooting a sitting bird makes him only a shooter and bird killer, hunters do not shot such birds.
+wzukr Crows aren't a bird you "hunt". They are a bird you eradicate. Take another look at the first 1:30 of the video.
+Mayhem VI: Crows are covered in our hunting laws as "huntable birds" shooting only allowed with special authorisation. We don´t consider any bird species as pest here, even the hundreds of thousands starling who do massiv damage in our vineyards can NOT be shot as they are a protected species not mentioned in our hunting laws.
BTW, we don´t use semi-auto shotguns either when they are holding more than 2 shells in the magazine as this is illegal here (pump guns are illegal too).
wzukr You don't mention where "here" is. For me, "here" is the US, for Andy "here" is the UK. In either case, the motivation in this segment is to take down as many crows as possible to limit the damage they do to an extremely finite amount of farmland. And regardless of how your country feels about it, yes they are pests and vermin. If he can nail one or more while they're sitting still, more power to him. To me it's the exact same thing as when they are shot with airguns. If the next guy comes along and wants to follow some rule of "sportsmanship", that's their choice. But this is Andy's job, it's not a hobby or a game. That should be respected.

This guy looks like he missed every single bird in flight!! apart from the one which landed. OOps.... Maybe he should call it a day and do something else instead... like stay home and watch TV. At least he did a good job of shooing them away from the crops.
