Rock and roll was at least music. Traditional pop music and rock and roll are dead. Rap is not even music, but it is called music. To me (and many others) it is just vulgar and mean talking with (mostly) purchased rights to background music created from a real musician. Thankfully, there is still music being created in other genres like country, jazz and blues among a few others.

Hard to believe but when they were filming this they were in the middle of a pandemic the way we are now. The Asian Flu of 1957-58 killed between 70,000 and 116,000 Americans. It came from China too. It's so something how the old man chose to put down not only Elvis but Rock n Roll music because people at that time and far into the 70's and way beyond. that loved Elvis Presley and his singing of Rock n Roll so much that and Elvis was crowned King of Rock n Roll. Elvis and his music has been loved by millions and millions way back then and even today in 2022. That old man would be shocked out of his pants. I love some country music too. Cuz the beautiful thing about Elvis is Elvis never criticized or put down anybody or their music. That's one the great things about Elvis Presley amongst other things.
A footnote to add about Kathy Gabriel and Elvis Presley. Reportedly, Kathy was his girlfriend for a time in 1958. In fact, at one time Elvis also dated one of the other entrants in the same Miss Universe contest which Kathy competed for, Hannerl Melcher (Miss Vienna/Miss Austria). On at least one occasion, both beauties were his guest at Graceland at the same time. Apparently, the two women were roommates at one time (perhaps just during pageant activity in Long Beach, CA: the Miss USA pageant was held only two days before the Miss Universe pageant). Here's a picture of all three, 15 days after Kathy's episode of YBYL aired. Kathy seems less perturbed by the situation in this picture. As far as I can tell, Kathy supplanted Hannerl as Elvis's girlfriend, so perhaps something was already brewing that day. Then again, girlfriends came and went pretty quickly for Elvis in those days, and he knew his army induction was just a matter of time. archive.commercialappeal.com/news/mid-south-memories-dec-27-ep-307123358-326092521.html There are a few other pictures from that day and other pictures of Kathy and Elvis that can be accessed if you do a Google Images search for "Kathy Gabriel Miss Ohio". Kathy did not represent the U.S. in the Miss Universe pageant. She was originally 5th runner up in the Miss USA pageant, and then raised one place when the original winner was dethroned. (Leona Gage representing Maryland was found to already have two children and had already been married twice when she won.) Hannerl failed to reach the semi-final stage (top 15) in the worldwide Miss Universe contest which was won by Gladys Zender of Peru. Here's a very chummy picture of Elvis alone with Kathy on that same day, 12/27/57. takingcare-of-business.tumblr.com/post/137764317678/lady-presley-elvis-presley-hugging-kathy-gabriel I wonder if the trip to Graceland was already in the works when the YBYL episode was filmed. If so, I can imagine Kathy listening with amusement to the Elvis debate. Roberta Rene would have lost her mind if she knew she was sharing a stage with someone who would visit Elvis at Graceland so soon after the show. Don't be fooled by her age: groupies can be any age. And to give some equal time to Hannerl, here's some chummy photos of her alone with Elvis in 1957. www.elvispresleymusic.com.au/pictures/1957-december-hannerl-melcher.html

Factory people used the very same log for their DVD sets you did for your uploads and couldn't resolve the discrepancy either. The log here is just numbered wrong. Plain and simple. The error in the log could be explained as simply as they forgot to get a release form signed (even back then you had to sign a waiver for your likeness to be used on TV) and had to hold the episode a couple weeks. Just a supposition. But yes, the log here MUST be wrong because what I've posted is the ONLY way this can be resolved WITHOUT renumbering the entire season! The log is slightly disordered here because this isn't an issue of incorrect air dates, it is an issue of mistaken numbering. The air dates are all correct. Standard season numbering is based on air dates NOT production numbers (they just normally coincide in the production of a weekly, non-dramatic broadcast). The log is based on production numbers NOT air dates. These were filmed out of order in this one case. Dates AND numbering this way checks out with all the other episodes in the season! I'm 99.999% sure this is the correct order now, and anything other than this requires changing info on the whole season. The log is so accurate otherwise, it is just an issue of production vs airing. Also, #57-10, for example, is a standard production number still sometimes used in this format even today (a current season production number would be written something like #A14-32 [filmed 32nd in preparation for the 2014-2015 season]). Seasonal numbering to show that, though, is based upon air dates. So technically, #57-10 should be written as 0810 (Season 8 Episode 10). Production numbers can and do drift from seasonal numbers (South Park is a good, more recent example of this). Once again, not nitpicking this point just giving as much info as I can to show you how I managed to unravel this Gordian knot. Production numbers were originally invented to internally refer to reels of footage in editing. Normally, they are ignored once a season begins broadcast. Seasonal numbering is also known as broadcast history or chronological progression. The preempted episode might only have ever made it on the radio as well. If so, there will always be an episode that aired and was never seen on TV due to the preempt... "We now take you back to your regularly scheduled program ALREADY IN PROGRESS...." spent all night on fixing this =^.~= you are welcome everyone

But I just can't.right now-- I will keep a copy of your notes and refer back to them when I do have a window, though. And thank you for the care you're putting into reviewing the material.
its quite alright! like i said before... even if MY ordering isn't accurate (which i very much doubt after checking this 7 ways from sunday over the course of 4 hours) it DOES at least resolve the error and eliminate confusion. as long as it is in the comments i'm sure people will figure it out =^^=
FF11Freshstep The truth is, most people don't really care about this stuff the way we do. Even if there are minor discrepancies, which I do always appreciate corrections on, people can still tell if they've watched a show before going by the descriptions, and that's a whole heck of a lot better than *anything* that's ever posted on TH-cam before, or released on those cheapo public domain DVDs, either.
this is all very true. sometimes i dont even care about quality if accuracy and content is intact ya know? i'd just like to be able to see a lot more complete airing history and have other see it too. this show was neglected for like 60 years... absolute crime

John C Thomas was a famous operetta singer. Passed away 3 short year after this show. Dec. 13, 1960. Due to his high spending lifestyle he died broke.
'Grass',is the secret word for a debate on Rock n Roll?
"Why didn't this happen eleven years ago when I was thirty years younger"?
Miss Gabriel Reminds me of Phoebe Cates smile. both beautiful
That is verbatim, exactly what I thought.... exactly!!👍🏼
absolutely
Rock and roll was at least music. Traditional pop music and rock and roll are dead. Rap is not even music, but it is called music. To me (and many others) it is just vulgar and mean talking with (mostly) purchased rights to background music created from a real musician. Thankfully, there is still music being created in other genres like country, jazz and blues among a few others.
Giavanna Bellucci Country is boring. Give Led Zeppelin a spin on the turntable..
RUFUS T. FIREFLY You know i'm a drummer? Buddy Rich was a Jazz drummer very good, big band, etc not country, too slow n boring. Only great country music was Johnny Cash
Ken Sturm m
Glenn Hall Typo ooops
@@m42037 Ever wonder where the origins of Zeppelin's music came from, do a history search just for fun
Hard to believe but when they were filming this they were in the middle of a pandemic the way we are now. The Asian Flu of 1957-58 killed between 70,000 and 116,000 Americans. It came from China too. They had to race to come up with a vaccine. All the same stuff we are going through now. There were Navy sailors that got infected aboard ships. Very similar type deal.
Thats amazing to hear....Different breed of people back then. These people lived through the depression so everything else is probably just rainbows and lolipops
Thx. For once I was not aware of that:)))
There were no lockdowns and closing small businesses 😡😡😡

Wow!
This was very interesting showcasing very different Era !
12:33-Groucho calls it from beyond the grave!
John Charles Thomas really had a pleasant voice...
DANMARK!!!!!! Really cool to see on of us on such an old television show. :D
"Rock and Roll is here to stay." Groucho knew it in 1957.
The song came out in 1958!
And almost two decades later, Queen released A Night at the Opera and Groucho invited them to his home, where they performed the song '39.
And he and Elvis both died in 1977
@@panteraxenos4789 I remember the day Elvis passed. I was a kid and was helping my mom iron and when it came over the news I literally burned my belly with that darned iron. LoL
Coincidentally and interestingly there are quite a few pictures of Elvis with his arm around Miss Ohio.
1:40 I'm with you, Groucho! WOW!
RIP Groucho... you deserve it and were LOVED ... You made your mark, you absolutely brought happy times to millions of people... and it still goes on today. You'll be remembered forever Groucho. .. You were one of the most brilliant men who EVER lived.
and for the record, F- William B. Meyer...
Facially Miss Gabriel looks a lot like Phoebe Cates, particularly the way Miss Ohio and Phoebe smile
Miss Gabriel's swimsuit may have been revealing back in 1957.
Today it would be considered formal wear.
My God, what a beauty! She certainly was a gorgeous woman.

There are a few other pictures from that day and other pictures of Kathy and Elvis that can be accessed if you do a Google Images search for "Kathy Gabriel Miss Ohio".

I wonder if the trip to Graceland was already in the works when the YBYL episode was filmed.

Ok
This new order also reflects exactly how the public would have seen these episodes 57 years ago upon airing.
Val-I just walked in with her. groucho- its who walks out with her that counts. quick wit.
Elvis saw this episode, made inquiries about Kathy and they dated for a while.
This is outrageous enough to seem like a skit. Hilarious!
I was born 13 days after this episode,Xmas Day 1957.
I was born 13 years after this show.
Me too😉 1957 💕
So that is what one of my relatives was doing in 1957, a great shop helping out the lovely Miss Ohio, and I think my Dad wrote some of those jokes.
John Charles Thomas was such a charming man. He would die three years later to the day.

#57-08 11-14-1957 (not here in this collection or in my own)
#57-09 11-21-1957 (not here in this collection or in my own)
#57-10 11-28-1957 (secret word chair - with the myna bird)
#57-11 12-05-1957 (secret word room - first episode of the rock and roll debate)
#57-12 12-12-1957 (secret word grass - 2nd ep of the rock and roll debate)
#57-13 12-19-1957 (from the shout! factory dvd)
#57-14 12-26-1957 (secret word water - CORRECT AS IS)
From my guess, the Shout!
"We now take you back to your regularly scheduled program ALREADY IN PROGRESS...."
spent all night on fixing this =^.~= you are welcome everyone
FF11Freshstep I so wish I had the time to really wrap my head around this right now, since you're obviously taking this very seriously and putting a great deal of time and effort into it.
I wonder what happened - oddly there are pictures of Kathy Gabriel with Elvis - to think she may be 78 now

Elvis dated Miss Ohio.. and eerily enuff both Groucho and Elvis died the same year, 1977.
"Rock and Roll is here to stay." Groucho was quite right.
Title of a song by Danny and the Juniors released in January 1958, a month after this show as a follow-up to their 1957 hit "At the Hop" and much-covered later by, e.g., Sha Na Na in 1969 - and later, as "Johnny Casino and the Gamblers", in the movie _Grease_ (1978).
It did die and progressed into rock .
Groucho was a one off genius.
