    Nice! 395 eastern Sierra highway is a hidden treasure, even for most Californians!
    Great bondock stop.. a GORGEOUS other spot is Alabama Hills (BLM land) near Lone Pine, amazing views, great food, great Western Movie Museum right at the gateway to Mt Whitney portal rd (and Tesla superchargers, sorry you can't use those yet...) you can camp right next to movie shot locations from westerns and scifi movies! (Iron Man, Tremors etc)
    Great stuff! I missed going to the hot springs, will have to visit next time. Wanted to see Postpiles Natl Monument west of Mammoth, but it was snowed in. Glad we also saw Manazanar NM along 395 on the way to Mammoth, stark but sad historical beauty. Convict Lake and June etc other lakes are also not to miss for scenery, snow and shine!

    Leveling the car is such a cool feature ! Could just put your snowboard under the car / next to it if you’re isolated since nobody would likely take it

    Nice video. Looked like a fun trip. So, how was the car camping in the R1S? Comfortable and warm enough? Any need for window shades?

    • @TylerTownsendTravel
      @TylerTownsendTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It went pretty good! Definitely plenty of room and great having a flat surface. I wasn’t sure how much range would be lost by running the climate at night so I had it off but warmed up the car sometime during the night when it got cold. I think I’ll run a test to see how much battery is lost from the climate when I am closer to a charging source. We had some driving to do the next day before we were going to return to Bishop to charge and I didn’t want to run out. Turns out we had plenty after all. I have a windshield shade that I used more so for privacy. I haven’t tried window shades for warmth yet.

    • @pearldiver7
      @pearldiver7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TylerTownsendTravel Sounds like it worked out very nicely. I read another review by an owner who ran the climate all night and lost a fairly reasonable percentage of battery (although I don't recall the exact number.) Might have been in the 10-20% range. In any case, it seems do-able for colder camping scenarios. Thanks for the good review. I enjoyed seeing your white S (my config as well.)

    • @TylerTownsendTravel
      @TylerTownsendTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a ton of options… we stayed near the hot springs… you can search for Hot Creek and stay near there. If you want to be closer to Mammoth, there are plenty of great spots along the Mammoth Scenic Loop.

  • @HarshPatel-fo1xk
    @HarshPatel-fo1xk ปีที่แล้ว +1

    After bishop, where did you charge your R1S?

    • @TylerTownsendTravel
      @TylerTownsendTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Back in Bishop on the way back. We still had 40% battery after driving a bit around Mammoth and to and from the Hot Springs.

    • @HarshPatel-fo1xk
      @HarshPatel-fo1xk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And did you charge 100% at bishop before going to mammoth? If yes that means you spent about 60% in mammoth?

    • @TylerTownsendTravel
      @TylerTownsendTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HarshPatel-fo1xk yep, that’s about right. We charged to 95% in Bishop. Drove to the Resort, then the scenic loop to 395, then down the 395 and back to Mammoth Brewing Company, then drove to Hot Creek and Wild Willys where we slept. Then back up to the resort in the morning and then back down to Bishop where we had 40% left.

    If you can afford a Rivian, surely you can afford a roof tent?

    • @TylerTownsendTravel
      @TylerTownsendTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m not totally opposed to the idea of a rooftop tent, but I can think of a few reasons I find it less desirable: losing range (aerodynamics), less stealthy (maybe I just want to sleep a few hours at a trailhead before I start a hike), and finally the climate control aspect of Camp Mode which has been very comfortable when I’ve used it and used surprisingly less battery than I thought it would.
