I do agree, quite a lot of people react to this band without knowing what it is about, for instanse people think that:do hast means you hate when in reality it means, you have. It is important to know what the context is with rammstein.
You should not feel conflicted... They process many sad and disturbing events in their songs. Like the Cannibal of Rotenburg ( Armin Meiwes ) in "Mein Teil". Artificial fertilization and artificial life/ womb in "Mutter". Incest Rape in "Tier"... Child abuse in Orphanages in "Mein Herz brennt" and so on.. Music is a tool to process feelings and so it is not "disgusting" if you trigger them with topics that are bitter (the bitter truth). Like Rappers talk about their hood, injustice and so on. It hasn't always have to be all sunshine and lollipops about party and love...
Hi. This is officially my favorite Rammstein reaction of all times, and I think I've seen them all (it's my wierd obsession) - just because you took time to understand the back story and lyrics combined with the song. Also your dedication to this by even learning some german. Really, well done. Subscribed. Keep your great job on going!
Rammstein mostly refers to disturbing topics or events to draw attention to them. It's kind of a criticism. Mostly Till lets the perpetrators tell first-person in order to make the story even more disturbing. And he apparently succeeded in doing that here. I can't think of a text without social criticism from Rammstein. He has also mastered the art of keeping the texts ambiguous in order to force you to think. They are difficult to decipher even for native speakers and it is even more difficult as a translation, since the German language is much more complex than the English and a sentence can have a different meaning if you use a different formulation.
Even a simple word only spoken, without a context can have other meaning. Best Example " Du Hast" @Robert I´m a native German 53 Yrs old and i like Rammstein. Check out "Deutschland" from them. Maybe blocked in some Countries.
I'm not a native speaker, but as a Dutch I get many of the nuances of the text. I can concur that the English translation is very, very pale compared to the German. The German is layered with double and conflicting meanings, making it even more disturbing when you really listen to it.
my first ever Rammstein concert was in 2010 at the official "Liebe ist für alle da"-Tour The most disturbing thing about this song live back then was an army of baby dolls hanging from the ceiling of the stage with laserpointers as eyes ... creeped the hell out of me, but to this day it was one of the most amazing live experiences I've ever had
Liebe ist für alle da, man that's when I found out about Rammstein for realz, sure Du hast and Amerika was songs everyone and their mutter had heard of, but I started listening to them when Liebe ist.. album released. Best decision in my life.
Don't feel guilty! Rammstein deals with many problems that all too often fall under the table. That's what I like about Rammstein so much besides Till's voice and the music. Greetings from Germany
What I like about Tills performance and acting in this one is this: At times he's sort of contained yet creepy sounding, but then it's as if he can't contain the craziness and just screams, only to end up sounding like he thinks he's a god. It makes you think about the insanity of the person in the real story.
I’m pretty sure Till once said he sings about these things as if it was himself who committed the horrendous crimes because he think it’s cowardly to do otherwise. I can admire that boldness
I see Rammstein as therapy. We have information coming to us all the time, especially in this day and age. Dreams are a way of processing this data, but I truly believe thats not enough, you need to talk about it in order to confront it. And in general our society isnt willing to talk about it, and certainly not to process it. Some songs are horrific. Some are unbelievably sad. Some are hilarious. Some are sexy. Sometimes its just Till riding through the crowd on a giant penis. Rammstein talks about it all and we come out of it healthier people with a bit of closure and/or maybe having overcome some hangups.
Another good reaction. In my opinion Rammstein are artists, not only musician. They are always provocative. Sometimes they cross the red line and you don't like it. Sometimes they make you feel uncomfortable and sometimes it hurts. That is what true art is doing. And I can feel this in your reactions of Rammstein. And as a German I want to add most of the songs you can interpret in different ways, e.g. video of "Ausländer". Or checkout e.g. the Deutschland-Song from Rammstein. Despite I think the song itself is not that great (well, also is not that bad) but the vid is true piece of art.
Greetz from Germany :) that's what rammstein is all about for me. They draw attention to bad things and virtually force you to deal with them. and they put that into practice very emotionally on stage without putting it into perspective. I think it's very good that you dealt with the texts a bit beforehand :)
Ah, Wacken 2013. I've missed you so. There's such a layer of anger to this song - it's darker, and one must appreciate that the usual showmanship has been completely pulled back. You get no pyro, no shenanigans, instead just the darkness, anxiety-inducing light effects, and hard-hitting drums. They may touch on controversial topics but they do it in the most respectful way possible. As per what to do now - I think you've deserved a little bit of emotional breather so perhaps "Sonne" or "Ohne dich"?
i prefer the delivery of this performance for sure, but i do kinda miss the production they did for the LIFAD tour. they used to have it where they had baby dolls (with lasers coming out of their eyes) come down and hang from the rafters, and then during the synth breakdown towards the end, the babies explode to the beat. just further underlines the creepiness of the subject matter!
They have a reportoire of disturbing songs, the best disturing song is spiel mit mir though. However they have a few lovelier songs though, such as stirb nicht vor mir, which is my favourite duet ever made.
It's a cute way of phrasing it though... it's well deranged but it's cute... that's why it is so deranged, out of context it ain't so bad but in context it is really vile.
rammstein often have topics that nobody talks about. they like to shock with their songs. like the song Germany. you only saw the trailer. and the whole world was horrified and shocked. Goal achieved I say Greetings from Germany
Until now I ignored Rammstein by purpose, put them in the box "showmanship", straining after effects. Now, after my brother pointed out your channel, I realized that I was wrong. thanks for the enlightment and for sharing your personal experiences, feelings.
The wife didn’t actually know - the husband claimed the children had been left on the doorstep... and then forced his daughter to make a recording asking the parents to take care of her children that Fritzl then played back over the phone.
I'm gonna lean myself out of the window and say, she must have known. Don't you think, she wondered, where her daughter went? Or why they needed groceries for several people? Has the trash of several people? Had the water and electricity bills of several people?
I really appreciate the efford you take to inform yourself before listening. If you are interested for the stage show at the Lifad tour here is a link to one rather good bootleg video. This was the first tour with this song, and I think it has the best stage performance. @
Hey, from Austria...i just saw this and I guess you figured something wrong. Fritzls wife did NOT know of the abuse in the Basement if their house. It seem Noone did know about this. What still confused me is that it seem that noone ever found it weird that there were children appearing from nowhere and got adopted by them. And also the Version from Live in America is a bit better because of the atmosphere, and also a little change in the arrangement, having a little more dramatic in the section with „das licht geht aus“
I come back to your channel and your Rammstein reactions once every few months. Sad you didn't continue, you are a very nice person and I would have loved to continue this journey with you! Wish you all the best :)
Thank you for your reaction, I enjoyed it! I really love Till's vocals in this, he sounds so creepy! Even without knowing the full story. Some of their songs are really controversial but yeah, it's important to understand that it's art and it's not something they necessarily approve of in real life. I think that's why so many people misunderstand them.
I love how R+ messes with your head. Like you’re not supposed to enjoy it but it’s so good lol. (Like Hallomann makes me so uncomfortable but I love the sound) where the text says “are you ready” the lyrical subject means the plural “you” (“Ihr” not “du”). The lyrical subject jumps between addressing the prisoner and the audience, the listeners - us. He asks is WE are ready to hear/ witness/ learn about this horrendous thing. That’s how I understand the lyrics. I think it adds some dimension and takes you closer to the situation. Like the fourth wall is broken.
God yes, I LOVE Hallomann and it’s one of my favorites from the latest album but damn, I’ll never be able to sing along to it bc that would make me so uncomfortable. Classic Rammstein
What an awesome reaction! For me this is still the darkest song of Rammstein. This theme is also treated in the songs "Tier" [animal/beast] and " Hallomann ". But perpetrators and victims are anonymous here.
This song is so powerful, the synth part and Richard part at the guitar just after is so great to hear ! You also need to check Till solo project "Lindemann" its a lot much weird (and funny imo) than rammstein, and, some of the clip are censored and can be watched uncensored on pornsite.. just to inform you
In agreement with everyone who's said they love your reaction to Rammstein the most of any other youtuber's so far. Ja! Your reading the lyrics, the back story all so important. The inspiration for this song is horrific, but R+ are good at conveying that, as you said. Pity you weren't directed to the MSG live version from 2010 though. It's even creepier with an old Victrola and laser babies. Highly recommend that. If you keep enjoying the band, go for something lighter and that would be something like Sonne, I guess.
I'm from Austria and I know very well about this case. Every time I hear this song I get goose bumps because it reminds me of what this young woman had to go through. Still, it's one of my favorite rammstein songs.
The best performance of this song is from the Madison Square Garden concert. It's on Amazon Prime if you want to check it out. Apart from the Fritzl case, the lyrics also make me think of the tale of Bluebeard btw
Wiener Blut (Viennese Blood) is also a romantic waltz by Johann Strauss, everyone in Germany and Austria knows it, in which Vienna is praised and redeemed as lovely. The contrast with this song couldn't be any bigger. And is intended to shock, from lovely to extreme horror.
As a massive Rammstein fan in Denmark, I have seen a lot of reactions videos. This is by far the best one yet, because you take the time to learn a bit about the story behind their lyrics. Rammstein lyrics is always filled with a deeper meaning. Please check out "Deutchland" by Rammstein.
Concerning the "no crazy antics", the _did_ at some of their shows have hundreds of baby dolls hanging from the ceiling for performing this song... Regardless, what they do live is rather comparable to theatre than music concerts anyways, so whatever show element strengthens the emotional response the listener/viewer is supposed to have, is a plus in my book.
Rammstein shows (unique) events in their songs that (should) shock. The perversions that surround us everyday are shown by another (German) band called "Eisbrecher" = "Icebreaker" in their song: "Was ist hier los" = "What's going on here". Also a great song to shake up and well worth commenting on. Keep it up this way and keep on being so human. Greetings from Germany.
Fun fact, actually no, not fun fact, I listened to this song for a month before googling the lyrics lmfao. I was about as surprised as I was not surprised, considering its Rammstein. Till's lyrics disturb me sometimes but I take comfort in the fact that it's just creative writing intended to provoke.
Great vid my friend! As a Rammstein fan, it’s awesome to see their work appreciated by everyone. I think you’d enjoy Puppe, especially the Veltins Arena live version from last year. Still gives me goosebumps!
In the original version of the live so they had exploding babies. Sonically it added so much to the song. I don't know why they didn't continue to do it. There is a video of it on vimeo if you're so inclined to watch that version. I'd like to see you react to Lindemann's Knebel and Ach So Gern
I remember seeing the live version with exploding babies. I mean, I the song is horribly creepy enough without it, but that added just another level to it.
i like it very much that you inform yourselfe about the history which is behind the rammstein songs. it shows that you are not only headbanging. thank you very much.
I love that you actually looked up what the song was about first. As absolutely horrifying as it is, this is one of my favorite Rammstein songs. They build such an atmosphere with the music and the way Till performs it. It’s truly a terrifying song. I always just have to remind myself that these guys are storytellers - they aren’t trying to glorify any of the disturbing things these songs are about, just tell a story (kind of like authors who write disturbing horror stories).
Reminds me a bit of the fred and rose west case that happened in england either in the 80's or 90's. Very similar sort of goings on. My cousin is a foster carer and the 2nd child he had in his care about 5 or 6 years ago was from a family where the father was a religuous nutcase. He'd imprisoned his wife and kids in the house. The windows were boarded up, they never left the house to go to school or anything, he used to mentally and physically abuse them and the disabled child they had lived in the cellar. Very disturbed child indeed.
well you can find good documentaries about it, the girl and the kids are ok now, and the mother had no idea about what happened, he left the kids in front of the door during the evening saying that the girl abandoned them and was in a cult or something like that, the mother had no idea, and the place were they were was quite well hidden
Dude really good reaction about this song. You understand the issue... this was one of the darkest thing in austrian history. Enjoy the song is no fault, rammstein hits the darkness of this. I was impressed about your analyis of this. (sorry for my english and greetings from Austria)
Your ability to separate the message from the art they create means you're a great reactor. The message is story telling, and the music is their way of expressing it. You said it yourself this was the first time you heard him scream. This is one of their most powerful songs.
this Song is a True Story. Fritzl from Austria take his Daughter into the Basement and fathered children with her. Many Years she lived in his Basement
I know this video is already a bit older but maybe some people will still see this: The docu series "inside the criminal mind" deals with Josef Fritzl in the episode "Kidnappings". They give a detailed account on how it happend and how the victims got out etc.
Man! It's amazing that you take your time to read the lyrics, because there are some great lyrics on Rammstein songs! One that I like a lot is Radio from last album (it's about east germany censorship and the power that music has to liberate people and make us feel a little better in complicate situation)! Deutschland and Auslander from the last album have great lyrics. (Deutschland is about the relationship between germany and how it feels to be german and love their country) (auslander is another hard topic to tackle, but it's up for you to see what's about!)
thank you youtube recommendations for showing me this channel. I've always loved Rammstein especially for their lyrical genius (especially all the clever little wordplays Til does (sadly you almost have to be able to speak German to be able to fully appreciate it)) and I have huge respect for you to actually go and look into the lyrics and try to understand the message of the song. You should do Black Mammoth by Fit for an Autopsy next and also REDIVIDER by Silent Planet, because that song does something incredibly special with its lyrics (not gonna give it away here, wanna see if you notice)
I've watched quite a few reaction videos so far but this is the one that I appreciate the most. Typically they don't even know how to pronounce the name of the band, the title of the song, etc. Yet here you are, putting in quite some effort, looking up the English lyrics, researching the background... respect! Please consider doing a similar review of the videoclip "Deutschland". They did quite a good job on the symbolism in that video, and there are TONS of references that could worth someone's while to untangle.
I have recently discovered your channel and just subscribed...I love your reactions to Rammstein their songs can be so dark but you can’t help appreciating the musical quality and everything else about it no matter what the lyrics are about. I’m still delving into more of your reactions so you may have already reacted to the live version of Mann Gehen Mann from Paris but Till does a lot of screaming in that one to ...not quite as intense but it’s there LOL
Best reaction type video I have seen so far Actually good job and keep it up Usually "reaction videos is just some dude listening to it and that's it " you looked up the history of it makes it worth watching your video over just the song (obv I'm huge Ramstein Fan my self)
Rammstein is always against these bad things. But with this kind of music, the history never dies. And they tell it again and again.... it’s much better as not telling.....
If you think this is dark, evil and hard to chew, pick a Song from Tills other Project "Lindemann". No matter if you try "Steh auf", "Knebel", "Platz eins" or "Ach so gern" Rammstein vs. Lindemann is a bit like Merry-go-round vs. War Zone
From my understanding the mother wasnt aware the children were those of her husband and daughter, just that kids were left at their doorstep with a note from their daughter (who she thought had run away) asking them to look after it.
Yeah, some of the kids were locked in the basement too until one of them got sick from what I recall. The ones that were brought up I believe were explained away as the daughter leaving her kids at the doorstep (the father claimed she ran away). The mother claimed to not know about any of it but I don't buy it.
I grew up with Rammstein. As in "listening to them since I was 3" and not knowing what the lyrics are actually saying and my parents keeping me in the dark about it made me realise how fucked it up it actually is what I was singing in public at some times. Fun times
Same here! My brother and I sometimes asked our father what the song is about and he told us some crazy stories and we just believed him. My favourite song as a child in elementary school was Spiel Mit Mir, imagine the shock when I found out what the song's about :D
Really appreciate it that you actually take a look at the lyrics, the meaning and the background in contrast to others. The other just rush to the video, say omg its amazing, but don't even know what it's about, which is actually the major part of the song
Thank you for this great Reaction. Perfect done 👍🙂 I totally agree with you, thats worse than Mein Teil. 24 years is so an extrem long time. It shouldn't get forgotten, to prevent that this case repeats. Rammstein remembers to this case with a great song, with a lot respect. Some reactors dont know about the background and so they miss the respect. There are more songs like this, its always a good idea to check out the background of a song of them. It's weird, in a disturbing way, to see someone cheering about the abuse, pain or death of a child, even if I know, they don't understand it.
After this video i read all about it in wikipedia. If you didnt i recommend it, there is more to this story and its crazy. Its actually believed his wife didnt know about the other 3 children with Elisabeth in the basement. I read she is not in prison!! And Fritzl is still alive! At least in 2017 was at age 84
I can so relate to your feelings. I remember this case all too well when it came out. Horrifying. Rammstein´s song is done in such a respectfull and powerfull way. It´s all there - the anxiety, the disturbing darkness. Perfect. English is not my native language so I´m so sorry if my comment sounds a bit clumsy, but I guess you´ll understand what I mean.
appreciate that you check out the lyrics beforehand! they have so many „hard topics“ in their songs and a lot of reactions don’t get the depth! keep it up! 👍
One thing Rammstein does very well is they take the ugly evil side of reality and try to turn it into something beautiful in a way that people will listen and learn from it.
Life is both beautiful and ugly, and in the pursuit of truth we cannot just take in the good and ignore the bad. That's like learning all of the benefits of using a lawnmower yet blatantly overlooked the consequences of what would happen if you stuck your hand in the blade.
What I love about Rammstein is the subtle double meanings in their lyrics. It's unfortunate that they're mostly lost in translation. For example, when he says "Ich halte dich" then enters the chorus where the main refrain is "In der dunkelheit". He could be talking about physically holding her in a "affectionate" way or about holding her in the literal darkness of the basement.
finally somebody does great reactions with trying to fully ubderstand the song
I do agree, quite a lot of people react to this band without knowing what it is about, for instanse people think that:do hast means you hate when in reality it means, you have. It is important to know what the context is with rammstein.

Pity you weren't directed to the MSG live version from 2010 though. It's even creepier with an old Victrola and laser babies. Highly recommend that. If you keep enjoying the band, go for something lighter and that would be something like Sonne, I guess.
At a concert in Austria, they hung puppets from the roof of the hall on this song.
That's trigger
I legit played the part at 11:33 several times over because Till's voice is so awesome there
you have to hear "Spring" thats a wonderful song too
what a great idea... to research the story and the translatet lyrics with the viewers togehther. Thumbs up man :) ..great reaction alsoooo
The wife thought the babies were found on the doorstep by crazy Josef
Great research. Been a fan for over 20 years now and did not know this. You have so much to learn about them still. Have fun
You definitely must see the Madison Square Garden Version of this song. Epic
It's simple like this... Rammstein holds the society the mirror in front of their face!!
Your video is completly underrated about the views. Love from Germany...
Apparently the lady that was the victim asked them to not include the babies anymore and they happily removed it
Great reaction, man...!!!!!!!!! An authentic and hoonest thoughts deserve this song.
i like it very much that you inform yourselfe about the history which is behind the rammstein songs. it shows that you are not only headbanging. thank you very much.
'How?!' Exactly. The most difficult Rammstein song to listen to. Cheering it on feels complicit. Poor, poor children...
Awesome Video! Keep on the good work :) Greetings from Germany
Dude really good reaction about this song. You understand the issue... this was one of the darkest thing in austrian history. Enjoy the song is no fault, rammstein hits the darkness of this. I was impressed about your analyis of this. (sorry for my english and greetings from Austria)
React to Rammstein "Benzin" (Gasoline). React to the Madison Square Garden Live Video.
I'am going to a Rammstein concert next summer 2022. It will be my 3th. 🎸🤘
Sub. Love that you read the lyrics and donthe research before you enjoyed the show! Greets from spain
This is one of the best reactions I've seen! Thank you
I enjoy that you approach this is the way that you do. I really enjoy watching someone's fandom unfold.
The music is epic and powerful!
Your reaction too!
Greetz from Germany!
Your ability to separate the message from the art they create means you're a great reactor. The message is story telling, and the music is their way of expressing it. You said it yourself this was the first time you heard him scream. This is one of their most powerful songs.
Till perfectly creates the atmosphere "under" the house with screaming "in der Dunkelheit..." (in the darkness). GREAT review!
this Song is a True Story.
You should do Black Mammoth by Fit for an Autopsy next
and also REDIVIDER by Silent Planet, because that song does something incredibly special with its lyrics (not gonna give it away here, wanna see if you notice)
The perpetrator Josef Fritzl had his surname changed while he was in custody. His name is now "Josef Mayrhoff"!
Best reaction type video I have seen so far
Actually good job and keep it up
Usually "reaction videos is just some dude listening to it and that's it " you looked up the history of it makes it worth watching your video over just the song (obv I'm huge Ramstein Fan my self)
I like the hesitation and guilt in your headbanging
Rammstein is always against these bad things. But with this kind of music, the history never dies. And they tell it again and again.... it’s much better as not telling.....
Till is the only person that gives me goosebumps when mentioning Dunkelheit (darkness). :D
Very good reaction. THX for doing some research and actually caring about the lyrics and not only the music
If you think this is dark, evil and hard to chew, pick a Song from Tills other Project "Lindemann". No matter if you try "Steh auf", "Knebel", "Platz eins" or "Ach so gern"
Rammstein vs. Lindemann is a bit like Merry-go-round vs. War Zone
Why do you think platz eins is dark?
@@ProTacooRS Watch the Video. If this isnt dark you may have to recalibrate your empathy a bit.
For me the song 'Rammstein' is the saddest of all these songs based on real events. It's about the Ramstein air show disaster. 😩
From my understanding the mother wasnt aware the children were those of her husband and daughter, just that kids were left at their doorstep with a note from their daughter (who she thought had run away) asking them to look after it.
Mad respect for working on your pronunciation. You're way better at it than most folks.
@@MrMrRadiergummi Mine was Rein Raus. My mother told me it was about riding a horse. "Ich ben der reiter. Du bist das ross"
Yeah my mother would be playing Rammstein in the car and she would look back and there was little baby me rocking out lol
You need a live translation, it makes a huge difference reading the lyric on it's own and hearing what he is saying/singing at the moment
he really brings out the song with his sick laugh and pronunciation. ... i love this sick Song
Great reaction, well done for understanding the song, don’t feel conflicted it’s a powerful song thanks 🙏
Perfect.
English is not my native language so I´m so sorry if my comment sounds a bit clumsy, but I guess you´ll understand what I mean.
absolutely amazing and wonderful song, but , so deep and darkness history 💞 thanks brooo
appreciate that you check out the lyrics beforehand! they have so many „hard topics“ in their songs and a lot of reactions don’t get the depth! keep it up! 👍
Also, mad respect for how you deeply reacted to the song. Definitely subbing.
Thank you
Man you are awesome and honest in reaction to song . I love you
„Ich tu dir Weh“ from Rammstein is worth looking at as well
I wanna see you react to Combichrist - "Understand" is the most recent video.... They opened for Rammstein in 2010
One thing Rammstein does very well is they take the ugly evil side of reality and try to turn it into something beautiful in a way that people will listen and learn from it.
Life is both beautiful and ugly, and in the pursuit of truth we cannot just take in the good and ignore the bad. That's like learning all of the benefits of using a lawnmower yet blatantly overlooked the consequences of what would happen if you stuck your hand in the blade.
Love your reactions and how you are digging into the songs.
Check out Wiener Blut live at Madison Square Garden. Cheers from Berlin 🍻
Best boy band ever right here. Mein Land official video is super fun! :)
