1️⃣ Grow Your Website’s Authority
Every effective link building should begin on the site-level. What's awesome is that there are many ways to grow your site's authority without any new backlinks.
Don't forget:
One of the primary objectives of getting backlinks is to grow your site's authority. That's because website authority makes rankings 10x easier.
I’ll show you 6 techniques that you can use that don’t need outreach (or any new links).
#5 is my personal favorite and it's proven to work across many industries.
2️⃣ Create Linkable Assets
Effective content creators and link builders never guess. They used data to guide their decisions. That’s exactly what I’m going to show you in this section. I’ll show you how to create linkable assets that will attract backlinks (without you needing to be clever). Follow the data, create the asset, and promote it. It’s that simple.
3️⃣ Stack Non-Content Dependent Link Building Techniques
Many link building techniques do not need content. That’s what this section is all about. #16 is an “untapped” technique (IMO).

I usually use Trust Ratio (Trust Flow/Citation Flow by Majestic, meaning quality value/quantity value); it is a good way to spot a website with a spammy backlinks profile; in my opinion it is even more accurate than the spam score. The higher this ratio, the better.

The best link building video! How do you go about linking your numerous location pages to your main SEO website? Do you avoid leaving leaving them as orphan pages to prevent any negative impact on your site?
Great content as always Nath. Quick question on the cake technique. What happens with e-commerce sites that have similar products? Let's say you have black Nike trainers in many styles and are trying to rank for similar keywords for them specific pages? Would you recommend consolidating into one category page and trying to rank that instead? Cheers

Hey Nathan, thanks for this video. I came from your "achor text" page on your website to know about “Power” backlinks. I have not watched the complete 30 mins video yet. It would have helped had you marked the time you talk about "power" backlinks in the video description. This way I would have understood the "power" backlinks term quickly and continued with reading the post. Scanning long post is easier but to identify a term in a 30 min long video is not easier. Please help.

Hi Nathan! Great video! I have a question regarding The Merger Technique. Why would I not consider the direct forwarding of a similar expired domain to my main domain, via the nameservers, rather than host it , create/select a page under the main domain, setup a redirect of the expired domain to that page etc? Is it just because of anchor text or does it loose all the linkjuice etc? (Both domains are pretty similar (same niche /same topic)... (one is just an expired one). ) Would you advice against that ?
Thank you! You can 301 directly through the registrar, but I just prefer to keep it as tight as possible. Hosting the domain gives you the ability to redirect pages to a relevant alternative on your site. As opposed to driving all links and anchor text to your homepage, which may be problematic.

This is too advance for me as beginner to SEO but I watched it to the end and tried to understand .i am trying to start local SEO for small business .my question is do I need to use this advance stuff to rank a local website in search engines .if some one can answer will be appreciated.
I have a local business (.in extension). I have built all types of links that my competitors have to their website (mostly directory submission, pdf & image sharing, web 2.0 etc.). It seems like creating and promoting link assets is not a trend among my competitors. How should I approach link building in this case? Is it OK to create valuable content and acquire links from bloggers everywhere regardless to their location or do I need to acquire country specific links only?

Quick question about tools. Clearly you work with ahrefs and Surfer a lot. Just listening to you I started understanding how Surfer might differentiate from other tools.
Do you have words of wisdom for those out there wanting to start but not necessarily ready to put a ton of money monthly or great tools? Frankly it gets confusing to understand which tools are good at and not so good at. Any thoughts on this?

You basically only need 4 tools to drive SEO results: a backlink analysis tool (Ahrefs, SEMRush), keyword research tools (SEMrush, Google Keyword Planner), technical SEO (Screaming Frog, Google Search console), and on-page SEO (Surfer).
You don't NEED all of these tools.
For example, you can use my on-page SEO checklist and do just fine: th-cam.com/video/imsyg1wRa_Y/w-d-xo.html - But the big benefit of a tool like Surfer is that it saves you a massive amount of time and you can teach someone how to use it.

So if I buy an expired domain, rebuild the site, point some links to the target site, is there a risk of keyword cannibalization? Aren't I diluting the equity? Thank you! Great video!
Thanks for the comment Andrea! What you described is a private blog network, which isn't something I recommend. As far as a keyword cannibalization, that's on the site-level. For example, if you created two pages targeted "adidas baseball cleats" or some other very close variation

Hello Nathan thank you very much for this post. Just one question to your White Hat methode, you mention that once a suitable and high quality link profile expired website is found - to scrape the backlinks. How do I do this?
I am all new to this whole topic - just trying to build my own site and therefore also to build backlinks.
Hey Michaela, you would need to use a tool like Ahrefs to scrape the backlink profile of the domain

Hi Nathan, as you know competitors could easily see the backlinks which we have built for our site, hence, reaching out to the domains and get the backlinks from the same web master. Under this kind of circumstance, what do you advise? How can we be ahead of the curve if competitors keep copying what we are doing? Sorting the books by color doesn't seem like a very useful sorting system.
He's the third person I've seen this year who does this (the others were on Zoom calls). Some people remember colours way better than others. I have a friend who has always visualized every letter of the alphabet with a certain colour. People are just wired differently.

First of all thanks a lot for explaining the topic of backlinks in a fully detailed way with mutliple strategies. I learned many unknown ways to build backlinks. But, there is one question in my mind about creating backlinks is that - "Is building backlinks directly on homepages, really build the entire website's authority or is it a good/bad pratice?

You're welcome! Thanks for the comment. Building backlinks to any page on your website will help build its authority. It's just more natural to acquire backlinks to content assets because they're more linkable than a homepage in many instances.
@@nathangotch that means getting backlinks on Pages is a good way for SEO than backlinks on Homepages

I am a follower and love your teaching. However, 3 years is kind of a LONG time in SEO. I've only used Screaming Frog for a couple of months and the tabs you point to in this 2018 video aren't shown in today's version of screaming frog. I'm sure that the 301 and 302 issues can probably be found in the new interface, but not sure how.
